GNR Stirling Single - How Does It Sound?

- Опубліковано 20 сер 2024
- The upcoming Stirling Single model features an updated sound project thanks to an ESU Loksound V5 decoder.
Here is a video to demonstrate the various sound functions. This model is due to be delivered in Autumn 2024, you can order one here:
rapidotrains.c...
Function List:
F0 Firebox Glow
F1 Sound on/off
F2 Brake Function
F3 Playable Whistle
F4 Short Whistle
F5 Guard’s Whistle (with answering whistle)
F6 Heavy Mode
F7 Train Set Mode
F8 Coupling/Uncoupling
F9 Coal Shovelling
F10 Coasting
F11 Injector
F12 Blower
F13 Safety Valves
F14 Drain cocks
F15 Ejector Sound OFF
F16 Water Tank Filling
F17 Flange Squeal/Track Creak
F18 Sound Fade Out
F19 Shunt Mode
The whistle sound on the 2nd production run of Stirling Singles has been changed to an archive recording of the real locomotive.
If you wish to, you can change the whistle sound back to that used on the first production run by changing CV163 to 1.
To return to the default whistle (archive recording), change CV163 to 0.
The Guards Whistle plays when F5 is pressed but when released, an acknowledgment whistle from the locomotive will play.
F7 Train Set Mode sharpens up the responses of your locomotive, this is to simulate DC operation on DCC to give a ‘train set’ feel to driving your Stirling Single.
F14 Drain cocks and F17 Flange Squeal/Track Creak will work only when running at low speed, as your model accelerates they will mute above a certain speed step.
F19 Shunt Mode limits the top speed and sharpens up the responses of your locomotive when activated and make it easier to perform shunting operations such as making up trains.
Thanks to That Model Railway Guy for filming and editing this video.

For nearly $600 I just couldn't justify buying the sound-fitted version. But damn this makes me almost regret not doing so.
Where is it $600, it should be somewhere in the $300 range
@@Marco-xz9sc£300 not $300. Could be Canadian dollars, I live in Canada and I have an analog Jones Goods on order for $360, our dollar is VERY bad at the moment…
@@Marco-xz9sc $600 Canadian. yeah, we're not happy either.
@@modelrailfan37 mines coming out to $350 USA… eek Canadian dollar sound bad!!
@@Marco-xz9sc yeah it makes modelling British stuff annoying over here due to the difference in dollar. Really if your into steam though the British stuff is cheaper, Rapido Canada just released a 4-6-0 over here and the DC version is $524 while the DCC Sound Version is $650!!! There aren’t many steam locos available in North America, and the ones that are cost a fortune…
y'all make beautiful engines I personally hope to see you guys make some models on Planet, Rocket and other extremely old engines
I am hoping the DC version makes it to my local full service hobby shop where i put a long standing order in for one.
Specifically at Branchline of Croydon in suburban Melbourne Australia.
Great way to start the day ^^ The Stirling is looking great and sounding great too
It sounds fantastic and looks fantastic, well done Rapido for another quality model, mines on order from Rails.
I was hoping this video would be about a class 04 Drewry Mechanical in LMS colors.
Beautiful model! 👍🏻
Got mine on order from the NRM Shildon. Looking forward to running iy.
Lovely sounds good work Rapido Trains UK👍 1:47
This is a fantastic model sounds great good work Rapido models will be very popular
Thank you!
its a lovely model that and sounds great
All very well but without the visual effects doesn't seem right, think I d rather have just them!!🧐
I think it would sound better if they didn't use a cell phone speaker other than that I love the model.
For some reason I thought this was out in 2025 😮
Very nice, like ...
Thank you! Cheers!
Will you be selling the sound decoders separately? I have a DC-ready version on order from Locomotion but kind of wishing I'd ordered one with sound.
Yes that's right, the sound decoders will be available from here:

@@RapidoTrainsUK Brilliant. Thank you!
Was just gonna ask about this, but my question has been answered lol
When are the Jones goods being delivered? The DC version must be ready to be released to the masses by now?
Look at the delivery schedule on the Rapido website, Q4 2024 is the current delivery timescale.
Nice- now make it in N scale!
Why ?
@@tonywright8294 interesting question.
will the DCC sound version still run on Anolog, and will the sounds still work?
The DCC sound version will make chuffing noises on analogue control.
Expensive, but hey, at least it looks like it should be
Is that engine still available for purchase
Yes.
@RapidoTrainsUK that's good to know since I'll be hoping to get one for my birthday and when I do I'm going to do a review on it
Maybe it's the video but the sound is terrible. No bass.
What scale is this model ?
oo gauge / 1:76 scale
@@terrier_productions beautiful, detailed model...I thought it was bigger scale...
sounded tinny and not that good
@@railthefox1857 I agree, it needs a new speaker! I replaced the one in my original release and it’s much better!
However that could also be down to the way it was recorded, likely on a phone
Rapido is rubbish ive had to send my sound fitted ncb 15xx back 5 times for various reasons and failures its not qorth it ive had 5 models and 4 out of 5 have been crap
I think the 15xx might be an outlier in their range. Haven't heard many issues with any of their other powered models. Their rolling stock is also very good.
You've had experience with one of their models. Yes returning it 5 times is pretty bad, but that doesn't represent the entire range.
Great so the peeps that got the original batch have models devalued with all these new sounds etc. KR did it with the GT3 and now Rapido arec at it, thanks
Welcome to the hobby where things are always improving
The models have not devalued other than by being an earlier version.
No one said there would never be any more.
If you are complaining about the loss of the insane prices charged on the second hand web site just before the new batch was announced, that is just a risk of supply and demand. The manufacturers are not there to make profits for you through scarcity.
@mkaustralia7136 dude is basically like "noooo I can't sell my rapido Stirling single for an absurd price anymore!!!!"
@@doge_sevens Quite right. there are still folk offering the Bachmann collector’s club S&DJR 1P for over £300. If that’s is how you like your hobby, sell while you can.
@mkaustralia7136 "oh nooo a model is now more easily accessible to the people who want one!!!"
