The field of psychology is very new, so for the longest time, spiritual leaders were seen as the resident mental health expert. Confession is basically a mini therapy session with some God sprinkled in. It's why hospitals and the military still have chaplains. In fact, chaplains are different from priests in that their job is to help everyone regardless of spiritual beliefs (or none). Chaplains usually learn about the spiritual practices of many faiths so that they can be sensitive and helpful, because their job is not to preach, but to offer a nonjudgmental space for spiritual healing. Long tangent, but I think that many priests, rabbis, imams, etc. view their role in a similar way. Rather than proclaim that they have found the correct interpretation and command that you follow, they have simply found the spiritual path that speaks to or works for them, and they felt a calling to help others through this spiritual lens. While they have their own bias, it is more important that people come away from their meetings with better mental and spiritual health than they went in, regardless of the specifics. The priest who isn't sure that there is a God might be having a crisis of faith, or they might realized that their faith is not about being radically convinced of their particular religious sect (which is statistically improbable), but simply they way they have chosen to walk a spiritual life. TLDR; To some, faith is less about God and their particulars, and more about a foray into the metaphysical and learning how to heal others beyond the nuts and bolts of biology. This priest knew that Josh wasn't Catholic and maybe didn't believe in God at all, so he brought his spiritual understanding of life to Josh's level. To simply chastise Josh about making God unhappy would be unhelpful and a waste of time.

Basically, "faith" to Mormons isn't about knowing God is there. The way I personally think of it, if you met Jesus on the street and was the type of person who would be friends with him, then you're a faithful person. Living a "sinful" life warps your character in a way that makes you and God incompatible. A lot of our missionaries go out completely unprepared to talk to strangers about this stuff. I fumbled or couldn't answer questions I should've known because I was too nervous. Plus, a lot of the time, people we talk to ask questions we hadn't considered before, so we have to go home and look into it. Mormons usually see going on a mission half as a character building exercise and an act of faith. We don't really think people should be converted to our faith because the missionaries were very eloquent or well spoken. However, when I read your response, oof, did that hit hard. I'm old enough to remember The Wall coming down and the things that came before. @@phoenixgirl70 I mean churches were prohibited. Thanks God people managed to save that building. Worships were back right after communists left the country in a complete disaster.
@@tatianapavel9858It's amazing how cultural bias affects our perspective. When I read your initial post, I'm thinking "how cool is that, a church with a planetarium. I'd go there!" as if it was an ingenious combination of the two. Because, as Josh rightly points out, here in the US there's nothing off limits when it comes to churches and making money.
However, when I read your response, oof, did that hit hard. I'm old enough to remember The Wall coming down and the things that came before. Now, there are generations, aka my kids, that don't have an understanding of how things were in your country and others. Even myself, since I didn't live there, have a much different perspective than someone who lived through those times.
I'm glad you shared this unique experience. It really gave me a profound reminder of history and our shared humanity.
Note: as you can gather from the comment you replied to, planetariums here often hosted other creative ventures, such as light shows and movies projected on the domed ceiling.
Have a beautiful day, friend!🌍💜😸
@@erinmac4750 my great grand parents were forced out of Poland. It looks like we were forced out of church as well...
I don't think you'll ever be able to top that pickle story!!😂 I was screaming laughing in my pillow to not scare my neighbours omg!!!😂😂👍👍💚
Love from România! Thank you for the weekly dose of sanity!
Algorithm do your thang. This man, I tell ya. 😹
I felt the "NOT AGAIN!" in the core of my soul 😂😂😂😂😂
The Pickle Fiasco story was a wild ride and I thoroughly enjoyed it! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh! I wasn't expecting this!...how could I forget!. Thank you Josh Johnson for this Saturday Treat❤😂
He's expanded from every Tuesday to Tuesdays and Saturdays
Sometimes i feel like a loose wet pickle on a dusty shelf.
Out of my comfort zone, displayed and unwanted.
Nawww everyone has a place, even a loose pickle gets a punch line and is seen by us all!
Hey yeh, you all right..keep hanging with good people ❤
Lmfao 😂 I love this
The dust is character 😂
How much do I love this guy? Yes
The pickle juice thief was Hannibal Buress.
IYKYK.... 🤣
😂💚
@@chriskringle5191IDK😭😢
🤣
@@chriskringle5191 that translates to LOOK but I know what you mean
Oh my goodness, my face hurts from laughing so hard. I would be so disconcerted seeing loose pickles like that - that must be so stressful for that shop owner lol.
😂dust is character🤣 I’ll use that when I have no energy to dust. 😂
Every one of these sets could be a whole HBO special! So well crafted- so deeply insightful- and so funny!!!!!
Josh, this is the penultimate juxtaposition in a set! How you can touch the deepest soul of human experience to the most absurd oddities in one smooth story set is astounding. What a gift and heart, too!
My friend, when you come to the Bay Area, I'd be more than happy to drive you around, anywhere, gas money be damned! 💜
This young man makes me laugh so hard....may need to invest in some "depends" for watching!!😂😂😂😂😂
Yes my friends would joke we’d call panty liners party liners in case you laughed too hard and peed a little. 😅
Hmmmm....🤔🤔🤔
I'm lucky enough to be seeing him in a few weeks. Maybe I'll wear something baggy with "special" underwear, just in case 😅😅
@@KOKO-uu7yd Probably a good idea. I envy you!! LOL 😆
Thank you, Josh. I finally heard a concise and accurate explanation that mirrors my own thoughts on the existence of a god. That it came from a Catholic priest is astonishing.
As a Lutheran studying to be a pastor, I liked that priest’s answer. Most myths, forms of thought, and religions generally want to encourage people to live better as individuals and in community.
Also, thanks Josh for building this great community and best of luck on tour!
16:46 real Josh jumpscare
So funny. I’m laying here with a fractured knee and this got me laughing. Painfully 😂😂!
Sorry about your knee, good that you have Josh to tide you over.... he's the BEST.
@@jedidahkagendo7219 Thank you! Yes, he’s hilarious and I hope he’s on SNL soon. His timing and stories are just something we’re not always seeing anymore. My 14 year old was walking by and heard him and he loves him too! Hey any day my 14 year old son and I laugh together is a great day! Thanks to Josh. You take care and watch out for speed bumps when you’re walking!😂😂
Ive heard for years that gas stations make essentially no profit off gasoline/diesel sales bc of competition. What they really want to sell is snacks, drinks, fried food, pizza, lotto tockets etc which is where the money is at.
This is true I know someone who owns a gas station. They only make a couple cents per gallon. There bread and butter is everything so inside the establishment Mainely cooked food
Just like anywhere else, the real profit margin is selling water. Fountain sodas are costing the business only a few cents.
@@noahsbro246wow. The future is here. Water making the most profit 😢
and pickles now too
@@ira__sthey've always sold pickles in my experience
I ABSOLUTELY LOVEEE JOSH.. The BEST comedian right now and I just think Josh is going to blow up and be on his way to making it big time. I'm talking about his own Netflix special I have been obsessed with Josh since I found this channel because he makes me laugh so hard that I'm crying😂😂😂
5:05 somebody laughed at "I don't drive, but I get driven" lol
Only this man can take a thought so point and deep (“I know I’ll be happy with how I lived my life..”)and smoothly segway it into a joke. Was over-here reflecting and what not then BANG 😂ugh
Thanks!
Josh always make my day. The Priest is to funny. Driving isn’t his forte 😂😂😂
Wow! This ten minute gas station bit that turns into the pickle jar story which gets funnier and funnier and then ends on a perfect note - fantastic! I often write lol, but this time I really did laugh out loud.
The pickle thing was one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time.
Oh my god, this is hilarious!!! You are so funny. And that's just the truth. Thank you. I was so happy to see that your Saturday video was up...your sharing Josh could heal children. You are the butterfly wings that change the trajectory of the planet. Be brave and continue. Thank you.
In a suit and tie, I almost didn't recognize Josh on MSNBC the other day lol. Always a pleasure to see him.
This is one of my all time favorites!!! Your observations about just life "stuff" always make me laugh aloud. I miss the podcast but I'm glad you knew to take a break for yourself and Logan. I'm looking forward to listening again.
"May I offer a suggestion" 😂😂😂😂
Some mysteries will never be solved from God to Pickle shenanigans. 💜😭
I like them being equally weighted too 😊
I love this "slow burning" style, you can see the punchline coming but it's delivered so well it still hits. 👍👍
Hahaha _roflsnort_ "Not again!" Bwahaha 🤣
I laughed so hard a the pickle story that my stomach, sides and back were all in pain and I was having trouble breathing. 😂😂😂😂😂
8:57 As someone from Kentucky, as soon as you said “I was at a gas station in Kentucky…” I immediately went “oh god”. We’ve got horses and bourbon and that’s literally it, everything else sucks.
Flowers at the gas station is to much😂😂😂
Good morning Josh, thanks for the upload, love your humor and storytelling ❤❤❤❤
We were in the dark ages for so long, now we’re in the Joshlightenment!!
The only comedian I have ever seen leaning against the brick wall!
Thank you Josh for the laughter. You are my go to guy in this goofy time we're in.
Josh, you are hysterical. I laughed so hard! Thank you.💕
Quiet, quirky, intelligent thoughts..makes me smile every time
