Hi Jon, thanks for the link it says in the manual to ‘tap gently with a hammer if having trouble releasing the clutch’. Looks like brute force is required at this stage! Thanks for your help.
@@ToTheGarage The Global Garden Products service manual you linked in response to another comment was my clue. GGP changed their name to Stiga in 2017. My Stiga is the slightly larger 3108H, but the GGP manual is slight spot on.
Very good video, I'm not fortunate enough to have axle stands... I found that the belt was easier to put on if I dropped the cutting deck to lowest setting... putting the brake on made very little difference.
Great video - thanks. The workshop manual describes how to tighten the drive belt but not the blades belt. Do you know if that is possible or would I need to replace the blades belt?
Hi there, I used my mover tonight and it seems that the belt that you mentioned at the start (which engages the blades) has become slack and came off. Do you know how I can go about fixing this?
Thanks for this video and another one where you showed us how to jump the starter solenoid! I have the same mower and nowadays it is struggling when the blades are engaged. You can hear them slowing down even with the smallest bit of grass. Do the pulleys need to be greased on these things?
Hi I have just got a great second hand Moutfield mower. I have just watched your video and wounder why you didn't remove the deck to carry out the belt replacement. Is taking the deck of a major problem. Just asking as I may have to attempt the same maneuver? 😢
Hi Do you have a layout of the timing belt for the cutter blades on a Mountfield 1640H ? I have fitted it but it is making a crashing noise on switching on and I am concerned I may have made an error
great video. I am having problems with my mower. Exact same model! I was cutting then went over some roots then the engine cut out. After restarting the mower the engine it runs for 10/15seconds then cuts out again. It does this everytime and I can't seem to think what the issue would be. I have swapped out the rectifier but this didn't make a difference. Do you have any ideas?
Try starting it and pressing the button that allows you to reverse with the blades spinning. If it stays running then the mower thinks that either its in reverse or that the blades are running. Could be a microswitch has got nudged out of position. Sometimes mine does this and I put it into a gear and then back to neutral and then its fine. I take it that you are sat on the seat and depressing the wieght (presence) sensor?
Hi, I wonder if you can help me as I try to fit a new drive belt (the old one ripped apart last week)? It appears I’ll have to remove the electromechanical drive that engages the cutting deck, but am struggling with the bolt at the base of the unit (visible in your video). Is that bolt clockwise to tighten or anti clockwise do you know? Any tips would be much appreciated.
Hi Tim Sorry I don't know but have checked the workshop manuals and although it doesn't say its a standard right hand thread, the fact that it doesn't warn of a left hand one suggests its right handed. Try the link below. Its what I have been looking at. Thanks for watching the channel and I hope you manage to free it soon. I've used your video twice now, when my drive belt has slipped off. Thanks very much! Really useful.

That mower is mechanically identical to a Stiga 2098 and has been very helpful in letting me figuring out if I can change the drive belt.
Did not know they were related 😁. Thanks NotAlot1135

Hi Dave. Yes I think getting the deck in a better position would have helped. Great tip

Blinding - thanks for sharing 🙂
My pleasure!

only because i have never done it before. but i agree it would probably have made the task easier👍
A great help - thanks
Glad it helped

Thank you got me out of a hole
You are welcome👍
Thanks so much for this.
You're very welcome!

wondering if a drive belt issue would stop the engine running for safety?
the battery also isn't getting charge so we need to jump it every time.
