- Believe it or not, this is actually my first time seeing a 717. Here we have one of many former AirTran 717 (or MD-95) aircraft taxiing up close on Alpha and taking off runway 24L at Montréal Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. I've got lots of footage coming up from YUL, so stay tuned for that! Enjoy.
Thanks for watching!

She's a beauty.
My first commercial aircraft as pilot -not captain yet - in AeBal, wet lease of the extinct Spanair, from 1999 to 2005 and earned my Captain four strips in this aircraft too.
So, I love it.
Being low on cargo, you could make the passengers puke up in a takeoff, of course we did not. But once I maintained a constant climb of 4000 ft/min. by simply not reducing the t/o thrust.
Lots of memories from the past watching today some 717-200 videos...
Jerónimo Rodríguez yeah them 717s are like rocket ships they climb real quick I want smart enough but I always wanted to be a pilot I'm getting on one from indy to Orlando in a few days cant wait I wish they had TVs in the seats though flew on 757s they had TVs and there thrust will throw you back in the seat and I love Delta

In fact I prefer to name it MD-95 rather than Boeing 717... it has all the McDonnell Douglas spirit inside, not Boeing.
Have a nice flight and enjoy!
By the way, I don't know your age, but if you are young enough and have flight passion in your veins... go for it!
Jerónimo Rodríguez I'm 48 but when my dad was in the military we flew to Germany twice once on pan am and then twa now all is lost from some great airlines which is a better carrier now in the USA United America or delta
love this plane flew on one a couple years ago on air tran it's like a rocket ships when it takes off those engine are huge the thrust is power like no other it's got three lavatories on board and feels bigger inside than a 737
Great video! Liked.
Beautiful close up footage of the MD-95! I really miss seeing those t-tails at our local airport
Awesome! Love the "angry puppy" :)
Nice!
Great video! The lighting looks great and the filming on point!
Great catch mate! I'm sure we're all excited when we catch our first one :)
Sucks hawaiian and delta are the last carriers to use the 717 in the US. I still love the aircraft
Nice
Good job nice
Nice Video Bud.
Hey! I saw this same aircraft pass over my house today it was landing at klax
Very nice! You have spent good time in Montreal?
Very nice! I would have loved to try that spot when I was there, but weren't only smaller aircraft using 24L?
I believe only aircraft up to the 737 can use 24L until they're done the repairs. However, I think (based on a post on the spotting group) there was an exception a week or two ago when a light 767 took off from there, but that's cause he could rotate before the closed section. Hopefully, next time you come, 06R/24L will be fully open so you can see the heavies from the hill on the spotting park!
And if the 767 didn't rotate in time...? Pilots fired?
I think the length closed is 2000 feet, so that would make the runway 7600 feet long, which should be long enough for an empty 767 to take off from (YUL's 10/28 is 7000 feet long, and has been able to fit heavies heading to YYZ and most recently, a Turkish A330 landing from Istanbul). Of course, in the moment, the pilot's calculations must have been 100% correct to avoid rotating too late.
Why are the engines so much bigger than a DC-9 or F-100?
because its a high bypass turbofan that is quieter and burns less fuel
