I have the yellow top version they call it Antique natural. To me it's a lot like a semi-hollow body Les Paul with Bigsby. I'm playing it now. The neck and body are similar to a Les Paul that's why I say that.
What an awesome job! Thank you sir for sharing your wisdom and honesty. It is both wonderful and refreshing. You and Sam Deeks Truly have inspired me. Your American Friend, Rob Hutson
I just bo"t a used one. Minty, I love the guitar all round. BUT. I want to lower the string action. I did so by dropping the bridge with flat screw driver. Now as far as string height is concerned, I could go lower. BUT. The doggone bridge pickup is mounted to body surface. No raising or lowering. So the high E string wants to touch the screw head of the pickup pole piece beneath it??!! What the H! So now I can't lower the bridge the little bit more that would make string height perfect to the neck. I dont think removal of the chrome PU cover will help? because the pole piece will remain and still be too tall. What a stupid dilemma. And obviously the strings are so alarmingly close to that PU as to negatively effect tone. Am I not right? But I confess that I'm not hearing any damage to tone by this proximity problem. I'd have to countersink that bridge PU into the body to achieve maximum low string action! What a stupid dilemma!
I'm curious as to why with so many uneven frets you wouldn't (after taping) "Blue" them with a sharpee, then level all the way up & down the neck lengthwise, then crown them. If you do this with a neck jig under tension it should come out absolutely perfect, with minimal fret loss In a fraction of the time. Have you read Dan Erlewine's books?
When I say length wise I mean with a stone.. or sanding block ( The blocks are available with radius too, which is especially great for 7.5 in old fenders). Have you tried those? Do you like them?
Have you watched many of my videos? I do this full time for a living and.. if you had watched my videos, you would know that up to 5 frets I do with a file (spot levelling). Any more than 5 frets, I level the lot. I have all the tools and I have many of Dan Erlewines books. Because the owner of this guitar was in a hurry to get it back, I decided to spot level the frets to save time. Admittedly, I would not normally do this but I made an exception...
I never level frets with a radius block. I only use radius blocks for radiusing a fretboard or for clamping new frets down. I level with a straight beam...
@@FretFriendGWaL I hadn't seen any of your vids before, I definitely gathered you were a pro. I thought at one point you had said 11 frets were off (!?) I do everything but fret and cosmetic work. I got some great guys for that thankfully, I've never really had an eye for it. Hey.. how would you compare the build quality of that epiphone to Gretsch Electromatics? Cheers
It's now 20th March 2018 & I am equally proud to be number 2000! Congratulations, Victor. I don't know how long it took to get to 1k but to DOUBLE your subs to 2k in just 6 months is good going!!
That's a very good question and one I have been pondering myself lately! I'll try and answer it; By eye!!! I take a good long look at the first and last fret because how they are seated determines how all frets in-between relate to the whole board! When I am doing a re-fret, I always double check that the first and last are seated absolutely correctly because all other frets follow that path in-between when leveling. I mainly go by eye and experience. Victor...

The beauty of this guitar is that you can make it better,

Couldn't wait to sell mine. Unbalanced and neck heavy, the pickups were insanely hot and it wouldn't stay in tune. Looks great but that's it.

Yes I did say 11 frets were off but again, as time and money were an issue, I decided to spot level them by hand. I trust my work...
