I remember that night like yesterday. My twin brother and father went to the Giants baseball game. He said, midway through the game, they put up an announcement on the scoreboard that read, "Breaking news. Susan Lucci won her first Daytime Emmy tonight for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series after 19 nominations" The baseball crowd erupted in applause. That's how amazing a moment it was Mom and I of course were at home just bawling our eyes out with happy tears
When I first saw these tapes back in 1998, I said to myself "She's going to win the Emmy" You have no idea how elated I was to be correct in that assumption. So well deserved
I came here to rewatch this memorable moment, because this year, our fabulous La Lucci is gonna receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at this years Daytime Emmys! I cant wait for the release of the new airing date, so Im gonna see our beloved Erica Kane to receive this very well deserved honor!
They key thing is that they humanized Erica and made her a mother dealing with a daughter with complex and difficult eating disorder. It was the course of many things that would open up into 2000s for Bianca. To be honest, prior to this, Erica had been mostly about herself, but tge moment Erica showed she was more about her children, it extremely humanized and humbled her. It sets for doors to open for her between Kendall and Josh. She was still a diva, but it turned her into a true matriarch.

THE DAYTIME EMMYS would start playing music when the winner's speech was running too long. Actually for this win, they let her take as long as she needed because it was historical but like most of the DAYTIME EMMY winners her speech was running too long for the broadcast. They let it go over a few minutes and did not cut away or cut her off.
@@kristopherwilhite They let theT whole speech on tv. Honestly while there were big stars on daytime tv like Bob Barker, Donahue, and of course Oprah Winfrey, Fred Rodgers et al this win was probably the biggest moment of Daytime Emmys and honestly probably should easily be in the top ten award moments. I don't know why I kind of got choked up. I used to as a kid say the odds of whatever happening were chances of Susan Lucci winning an Emmy. TV needs her back. Someone get her on a show - did any one see her on Devious Maids - she stole the show. As much as Erica Kane made her famous and her roles on Dallas and multiple tv movies I thought she was briliant on Devious Maids. She is a wonderful comic actress (okay dramedy).

If I'm not mistaken, she got the longest standing ovation of the show's history
