I'm going to have to correct you on the best placement for oneself to get the best views. This is wind dependent; so a wind forecast is required before seat selection. If the winds are westerly then the 24's are in use; so the left hand side of the airplane will give the good views from all directions. This placement will work even if you don't have a wind forecast because those are the active runways for most of the time. For arrivals from the north (Asia, Western Canada, LAX and LAS) sometimes the arrival might work for the right side if the airplane continues directly to the airport before turning left onto the downwind portion of the approach. It can also work for flights from the West and Southwest (YYZ, ORD and IAH). An East wind forecast usually occurs coincident with impending bad weather so you might not see anything. If you're coming from the Southwest, you won't see the downtown but you can see the Seaway canal between Valleyfield and Beauharnois if you're on the right hand side of the airplane. From the North you might see the city if, as before, the airplane continues directly to the field and makes a right turn (only works seated on the left). From the south, in this 06's configuration, you will only see the city from the right hand side of the airplane during the left turn onto the downwind. From the East, and Europe gives the best views from the right as one is passing just south of the EXPO Islands on the high downwind for the 6's. I hope this is helpful.

Not necessarily! If you are flying into YUL Rwys 06L or 06R (Easterly winds) from the East (Europe, etc.)...ATC will take you Southeast of the St. Lawrence River downwind. So, if that is the landing pattern, you should be on the RIGHT side of the plane for views of the City!

You are correct. But by experience (I travel a lot from and to YUL), winds will make you follow the path I have indicated 80% of the time.
