- I take on Charles Leclerc on a Monaco qualifying lap on the £2.5 MILLION rig @dynisma9516 - I've never raced at Monaco... so this was quite a journey of discovery. The full motion immersion rig pulled no punches.. What are my chances of beating him on his home track... er?
This is the exact setup the Ferrari F1 team uses for practicing, making it very interesting to see how close to Charles I can get on the virtual track.

So funny. The guy looked so meek afterwards, poor bastard, I was expecting a very English apology at the end from Ben but still, probably worth it for that time.
@@DrBoobY2K He's probably been in that situation so many times that he understands the level of focus required to drive on the limit, and that in the final sector of a lap, the nerves are getting more and more intense. Ben will have known how good of a lap he was on, and was bricking himself at the thought of messing it up.

For those with motion rigs, note the subtle movements and not the jerky roller coaster motion.
yep the bumps were real and the yaw was unique to that system - the speed of the feedback ./ movement is what really sets it apart as well
correct its all about quick movements
It's impossible to simulate the g-forces of an F1 car, you're not getting 5Gs out of a sim rig and this rig doesn't try to, so if it's just a bit of roll, pitch and yaw it helps a lot..
2.5M rig and the gear shift sounds like something you would get from Temo. Seriously??

Those who have raced will be familiar with the sensations we saw towards the end when everything settled down, the inputs became more subtle and the car just seems to be where you want. The flow state. I only ever got as far as racing 2 stroke karts at club level but the objective is the same; temporarily leaving reality to access that bit of the brain where time doesn't matter.
Would love to see you doing some rally driving! Something completely different 😎🤓

He literally missed a lot of apex, braked early etc and got a 11.9 on Monaco? Just… how… 😶
Well, he took a massiv cut in T1 every lap. Didn't bother with the curb, but look the pit exit lane instead.

Regarding @foxhound931's point, I felt like the left tire was out of bounds many times as it seems like the barriers actually do not do anything in this sim? I might be mistaking though. The entire run is not less impressive nonetheless.

It would be great to know which vehicle and tyres models have been used.
I strongly doubt Ferrari has provided their F1 model.
Unless they did, Stig has driven a F1 inspired model with is missing an engineering correlation with the real car.

we were short on game output for this one sadly but for future stuff, yes will get onto it - as it did sound a bit distant

In GP2 the space bar was for upshift and downshift. Brake and spacebar equaled down, throttle and spacebar was up.
Brake was Z key, throttle was A. Turning was

So they are using same or similar garbage hard surface tire model as iracing. Quite insane that a 2,5 $ costing Assetto Corsa has better tire model at least in some aspects.
I wish there was more actual inhouse effort put in to this, as most sim makers seem to be just buying the same physics engine and tire model.

it's a bespoke software system - "Canopy" is the vehicle model software

It does, doesn't it? The graphics are properly outdated and this arcadey-looking gear indicator :) The underlying physics engine may be bespoke, but the world has this rF look to it.

Gran turismo 4 graphics.
It's not really made to look nice, all of the development focus goes on making the simulation accurate. The actual sim is probably rFactor Pro, so a circa 2013 graphics engine.
@@ElShogoso I heard rfactor has better tire model than this. Iracing has a tire and physics models just like in this video. Same instant 100% -> 10% traction change and high downforce cars flipping and doing other weird stuff from curbs.
Not sure even a 4090 could keep up with that giant screen
What sim do they use as the base? AC or RF2 or something?

Ben , lol I can tell we are the same when it comes to doing things. I can get pretty frustrated and cranky when simplicity starts being complicated lol. Me thinking ok , I can get into sim and get a good lap on this track I know very well. Fun times ahead 😁

Ben, of all the tracks to pick from, imho one the most technical circuits in F1 🤣 This of all tracks has to be one of my least favourites and frustrating to drive. …my hats off to you 😃
This and the that damn R, PaddockHill Bend of Brands Hatch (my Achilles Heel) has to be hands down of over a decade of SiM racing has always been insanely difficult for me…

I’m the same way. Although help is appreciated it can be annoying when I’m getting frustrated and trying to accomplish the task at hand. Hovering is annoying sometime haha 🤷🏻♂️

You can appreciate why some drivers get so annoyed at their mechanic talking to them during the race. Imagine it while you're braking for most of those tight corners......
Most time seemed to be lost in the second Piscine? Rest was pretty tight. Even with the pedals and force feedback cheating ;-)

It's funny that racing games are to an extent more advanced, they can take a hit of too much curb, but your car may be damaged even if you don't crash.
I’ve spent hundreds of hours on the gran turismos on that track. It’s seriously fun.
If Monaco was tight in the past I can't imagine how tight it is with present cars that are the size of a pickup truck.
Maybe not in a game but definitely on a real track….❤😂

At 15:28 am I the only one that thinks that looks a bit weird? it almost looks like the wheel disconnects for a moment, but you can see the tires moving with his steering. Does anyone happen to know what happened there?
It was just the feedback from the bump he hit. Didn't look completely realistic in the video feed, but the way he corrected the steering was excellent.

Professional. I reckon it costs a lot of money to use that rig with them so there's no time to waste. Just like in an F1 team, everyone is 100% focused on the the effort. If Ben wasn't doing this a feature for YT, and was instead tuning the setup on his race car for an imminent event, he would be as laser focused as that engineer.

I don't think I've ever seen the stig smile.. He takes everything very seriously, even when he is being light-hearted. A very dry sense of humour and definitely does not like being behind on track, or being told what to do lol. It's like he still has some kind of mask on even when his helmet's off.. lol 😐

5:19 "You're either on the track or you're off" He should've put a clip of Rosberg instead, in 2014 with his "accidental" lockup that ended the qualifying session and got him a pole position at Monaco. "Woops-a-daisy, I locked up and turned left instead of right to park up in a very conveniently placed runoff area and at a very convenient time..sorry guys!" 🤔🙄👎
This is really cool to watch but the camera switches view way too much. I don’t know about everyone else, but literally the only interesting thing to look at is the screen, and you keep switching to different views so it’s hard to enjoy it, and follow you around the track

Great content but I wish you would have maintained seriousness throughout the whole video like you did at the start and I say this because I’m tired of arguing about how sim racing is not me just playing video games. Some of us either use it as a tool to better ourselves and others do it for passion or monetary reasons.
I guess it's to replicate the experience of being in a car, but why wear a helmet in a sim?
I hate the fact they use sims to develop cars, bring back the good old days of testing the car
