What is the correct reaction in this case? Just hands up and wait until ist flys or do you pump one time so it opens quicker but then there is risk it shots more? My guess would be doing nothing is best but im curious. (Im just flying for a year and never got an collapse of this kind)

Braking while it's not flying it doesn't help. Just wait until it comes in front and then do a short bump on the brakes to catch it from going too forward. It comes faster or slower depending on the speed you where flying, weight and EN Certification. For lower EN ratings usually it comes in front without a cravat. It's scary to think you lost all the wing but it is designed to fly again. After school i recommend doing an SIV course. It will boost you confidence level and teach you to react accordingly in wild scenarios that come with thermal flying. Happy skies!

@@MihaiSanta Thanks for your response! Your explanation makes sense to me :). Kind of what i thought. I got my first strong thermal days behind me and while being kind of safe on my terms, i figured a siv is definitely on my list and i ll do one as soon as possible :) Happy Landings!

Coming from 4- and 3-liners with 30+ years of experience I´d say: Do nothing that keeps your wing from reopening and picking up speed, but be prepared to stop the shooting. Even my Artik 6, that can usually be flown with 3-7 cm of travel to dampen normal pitch required both brakes down to the carabiners mid-air - and without a frontal stall before! As important as it is to stop the wing hard and therefor quickly enough, it is to release the brake as swiftly once you accomplished that.

@@rowill2968 When the climb rate is hard enough you can even go on climbing with a big collapse! It doesn´t necessarily make the situation easier though ...
