You should do one on eBates, we had to study them as a business case example of a really bad business idea during my MBA program. Their plan was to sell merchandise at a ridiculously high markup, then customers would fill out a rebate to get 100% of it back. Apparently the founders thought the usual low turnout for normal retail rebates would apply to them, that essentially that only 5 to 10% of buyers would claim the rebates. That was not the case, customers were filing for rebates at well over 90% which of course made eBates unsustainable and they went out of business quickly, leaving many customers stuck with merchandise that they paid a markup many times over the MSRP.

This is my internet era and I have absolutely no memory of it haha. I remember the lack of interest in WAP being dubbed WAPathy though
I don't remember beanz either. This video is the first time ive heard of beanz.
I don't remember it because I was too young to have a regular income and cash was still king in my world.
Same, I don't remember it neither.
Same, I started going online in 1994-95 (as a teenager) and I don't remember Beenz at all. This video didn't even trigger anything in my subconscious.
I spent at least a day of my life learning to make web pages for WAP.
I want my day back.
I can already hear Ron yelling: ”A BEAN”. Thank you ‘Kevin’ (cmk) for ruining my internet immersion .
Great video as always
Really, the reason Ron was so excited over beans is because he kept confusing them for Beenz.
This reopened a memory I completely forgot I had. I feel like I saw these in magazines as adverts when I was a kid.

God out is mind blowing how much changed on the internet in that time period from say 1998 to 2003, only 5 years, compared to today.
Man, at 11:32 he mentions Ebay looking for ways to do online payments.
That brings me back. I used Ebay way back in the day when it was just auctions and you had to pay for everything by check or money order. I think there was some sort of I-Escrow service you could use, but that was complicated and rare. I always just sent money orders, so that the seller didn't have to wait for a check to clear.
I am so, so happy you posted that clip from the Real World because that has been burned into my brain for years and I could never find it because I couldn't remember his name nor the season it was from. I'll never forget the one chick's reaction. You have done me a great service on this day. Thank you.
Me and the boys at 2am looking for some BEENZ
Asking for BEENZ
I love how there's that shot of a magazine quote from Uri Geller snuck in haha. EDIT: For once in that man's whole career, he wasn't lying
'I dont think they deserve to be called one of the greatest dotcom disasters' ... Calls video 'Beenz: One of Greatest dotcom Disasters of all Time...'
Here is a wild idea: read the description too "Beenz: One of Greatest dotcom Disasters of all Time... ... that's according to CNet at least, who put it in their top 10 greatest defunct Web sites and dotcom disasters all time. That's not how I arrived here though"
@@foxmcleod Here's an incredible revelation. I did.
@@p0tatob0ys and you still didn't manage to grasp what he meant. Well done. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Wow.. Dick.
Bruh somebody robbed me out of all of my *BEENZ* 😤😩😔
Honestly Beenz was a bit ahead of it’s time. Kinda like Bitcoin before Bitcoin
Been using, and working with the internet since 1996, never heard of Beenz
They were popular for all of a year or so, pretty much gone in the blink of an eye. We got our first PC in 95 and I remember Beenz.
@@Brando56894 strange, legitimately never heard of them. Nice piece of internet history though.
Same here.
Yep, lived on the internet as a kid at that time and always looked at all the deals and schemes. Never heard of beenz.

at 14:50, i hope i wasn't the only one checking my discord there. rip.
Its starting to piss me off how often this happens in videos now.
I explicitly waited to finish the video to see what the message was...

1) The blip was in the video...
2) My Discord is ALWAYS muted...

Me and the boys on '98 looking for some *BEENZ*
Great video. I remember collecting Beenz as a kid.
I'm glad to have been here to watch this.
Weirdly I can't remember beenz. Must have passed me by.
I got Beenz as a Christmas bonus in 1999. Never redeemed them.
These videos are so in-depth. Loving this channel (watching the backlog atm, discovered it past week)
Quick, some spin up an ICO and make beenz a crypto.
Just rename Libra to beenz. They both use a middleman (authorized resellers in libra, online stores in beenz) instead of getting the coin directly from the parent company or mining yourself. Also, beenz is a better name for a coin anyway.
Beenzconeeeeeet!

Turn off that Discord, man.
Ha! I heard that too! Wasn't expecting to see a comment on it though. :)
I was born in 2000, and still have SUPER faint memories of faded beenz logos on old posters and the like. Never knew what it was, thanks for the info!
"Crossed Zed" would make a great name for a punk band.
I keep thinking of "Meow Meow Beenz" from that episode of Community.
