At the beginning or the end of a difficult day, I use my fountain pens for about 30 minutes: doing some sketching, transcription, or free-form writing to gather my thoughts. I can focus in one pen, or swap at will from the ones inked, gradually emptying my mind. I find this little meditation ritual, calming and refreshing - bringing clarity on the concerning issues at hand. Thank you for sharing this! :)
Thanks a lot for sharing! One activity I find relaxing, especially when I work on a challenging problem [I work in R&D] is to disassemble, and wash pens for which I intend to switch inks.
Fountain pens has turned my morning meditation for the day into something different. Getting my brain in the right alert but calm, rhythm. Some might call it "flow". It is really been a gift since I found it. Thanks for this video.
@@Shak-MD amazing how the correct "tools" can invoke emotion in the user & turn what used to be a mundane, forced task into something completely different. My universal guiding theory is everything is energy. On this thread of thought, the reason "luxury" items originally were desired (before it became about brand names for status) is because of the actual human energy that went into producing that item. You can almost feel it being transferred to you. That is what you were paying the premium for...the energy that went into it by a skilled artisan who dedicated his life/time into making such an object. Subconsciously you feel this, and it brings you joy. I hope people find your videos and give this a chance as it is something everyone can do. Everyday my appreciation for my pens & my relationship with them grows. Each one slightly different than the other. More understanding & connection. When I got my first real pen (custom 823 F), I'll be honest, I didn't get it and was underwhelmed. I was like this doesn't really write drastically different than any other "cheaper" F Pilot pen. But as my skill in penmanship increased, and the more time I spent with it, then it quickly clicked and made sense, like a eureka moment. Ohhhhh, I get it now. If you are reading this, give it time and you will be rewarded. It's not about collecting the best pens, as ownership of something beautiful usually ruins the essence of it. It is connecting with something and appreciating it for what it is. Same goes with anything in life. Have a beautiful weekend🙏
Yes we all need to find ways to relax and unwind. I love certain music for that like early music (Hysperion XX) or Indian Raga or oud music or jazz. Or Gregorian chants…. The coloring in the lines seems to find the same sense making and tactile pleasures without being forced to express words or thoughts. I can only imagine trying to center after a shift at ICU. Hang in there. Just watching this reminded me of my father on the phone getting annoyed with a call … doodling on a memo or Rx pad, but especially the “o” of memo on an 1980s stationery. Hang in there.
This is a very nice way to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of fountain pens, ink, and paper. Thanks for sharing! I have a feeling that Vincenzo of Fountain Pen Therapy will comment on this video in his upcoming Weekly Recap video :) If you don't mind me asking: which ink is the orange ink you used in this video please? Thanks again, and have a great weekend!
Thank you! I should tag Vincenzo in the video :) :) The first ink is iroshizuku yu yake, my favorite orange ink. Notice the pen? It is my favorite nib for the Asvine V200. It is a Pilot Custom 823 fine nib on original Asvine V200 feed. The second ink, by the way, is super under-rated--- It is the Montblanc Permanent blue. The best behaved ink of all permanent inks I know.
@@Shak-MD Thanks a lot for your response! Well-done installing the Pilot Custom 823 nib on the V200; it looks very beautiful and the ink seems to flow really nicely from it. I never thought that the yu yake was so nice and vibrant. I use Diamine Orange, which is very beautiful and vibrant, but very dry and needs at least a wet medium nib to flow easily and show its beauty. I will give yu yake a try :) Thanks for the tip on the Montblanc Permanent Blue. What is the beautiful black ink that you used. It looks very beautiful and saturated. Thanks again, and have a magnificent weekend!
This is a really great idea. I like to tool around with pens as well, but I need to try this. It’s a great way to also use multiple pens and ink. It’s nice to just watch the ink pool in the light. I think I may have asked you this before, but is extra fine your preferred nib? Also, are these the new Mont Blanc Colours. I could only get my hands on the blue. I really wanted the coral. I might visit my local boutique, which is just down from my office, and see if they have it.
Thank you. The green is the new color. The first color is yu yake....second is mb permanent blue. The new blue is in there, too. I got all 3 inks and am very disappointed by the blue. It is essentially the royal blue. The Coral is amazing. And the green as you see is very beautiful dark green, very usable in office space.
Black looking is the new origin green ink in a very wet mb 149 nib. Blue inks... the dark [2nd in used] is Montblanc permanent blue. Light one in the flex is a mixture. The 146 flex has waterman serenity blue.
Love your work Shak
Thank you!
There is something incredibly relaxing and satisfying in the sound of a fountain pen nib scratching across paper.
Truly!
What a wonderful, therapeutic practice. I'm going to try it. It'll be good to make use of my French-ruled Clairefontaine paper. 🙏 from the Bay Area.
Thank you! Well wishes from up north 😀.

Great Video.
I like the paper. Can you please advise what brand. I would like to purchase.
Very therapeutic!
Thanks! It is Clairefontaine 90 GSM Séyès ruled paper. Got it from a store in Canada.
