Breaking rocks with Houdini and Blender

  • Another practice for rigid body. I had this idea for a while but I managed to get to work on it only recently.
    Highly inspired by the scene from Saint Seiya where the guy uses his cosmos energy to break the stone. I even wanted to recreate the scene but couldn't manage to get a red haired actress lol. So I decided to go for a more grounded/realistic live action scene.
    3D model done in blender
    Rigid Body simulation done in Houdini.

    Wow!!! Man this is just perfect! So real! I thought that only the small stone was CGI :D, then the plot twist came!

      Thanks! Actually the stones at the beginning were real. Only the broken rock is CG 😉

    Sick man! Very cool. The slow mo explosion kind of reminds me of the cafe scene in Inception

      Thanks! Ah you're right, I did the slow motion to show off the realism of the effect but yeah looks like from inception 👍
