For anyone who believes we are a "Christian Nation"--please answer a question for me.
Let's suppose for the sake of argument, that we are indeed a Christian Nation. Why is this important? In other words, what is supposed to happen next, if the argument were settled? Everyone agrees we are a Christian Nation. Now what? What is supposed to follow from that in practical terms--political, economic or social policy?

Seidel's book The Founding Myth is an important work of reference and needs to be studied by both followers of the Christian faith and non-believers to keep church and state separate

Our founding fathers were unbelievably smart men-way ahead of their time. Grip that book as hard as you like if it makes you feel better. In time it will be forgotten.

Got here from searching for Seidel after watching his interview with Bill O'Reilly. After seeing some of the comments below, its rather clear theists are on the defensive. Seidel does a great job in this video and makes some extremely valid arguments!

If you asked 10 people to define what a Christian country is, you would likely get 10 different definitions . . . so this entire video is meaningless.

O'Reilly had his hands full with this guy. A. Seidel obviously DOES know his history. I only wish I had a time machine so I could travel to a point in future where your religion is understood as mankind's laughable folly. Calm down Bible thumpers!

"Taking the Lord's name in vain"
I've heard that as the Death Knell for Pascal's Wager... that you should not convert if you don't mean it, literally "taking" the Lord's name as your god without conviction... then go back to another religion with another god, and back to YHWH again and so on...
But the theories it has to do with oaths are more common... do not swear to or on the name of the Lord insincerely, do not break an oath sworn on god etc.
The obviously worst interpretation is the literal one many protestants/evangelicals use... do not say the words god, Jesus, Mary etc as curseword, mockingly and so on (To be fair the Jews do the same and pussyfoot around using "Jehova" in a lot of pretty hilarious ways, English translations tend to substitute "LORD" for even the letters YHWH when it is written that way in hebrew, superstitions ARE funny!).
This ignores a lot of things, first of all that neither "god" nor" lord" is THE NAME of "YHWH" (If anything in English "I am" would be the proper name in translation), Jesus is a close transliteration but also not really Yeshua's personal name and Christ is only a title (meaning the same as Messiah). and Mary is almost never seen as deific... just as the worldly vehicle delivering little Rapebaby Jesus into the world that would kill him. So why would any of this matter? It is another cop out to avoid having to avoid REALLY consequential things by taking up other interpretations...
Swearing you can train out of people... but no oaths? Or even regarding the confession to a religion as a serious thing and only to be undertaken when 100% convinced? That would be really cumbersome for the people wanting to convert as many people as possible. Not saying half a dozen words is the easiest thing to enforce and it even gives the words more power as they are now elevated to special attention and therefore status...
