Hey Jake! Off topic question for this video: What size is the shelter you built for your splitter? Do you have a video where you built it? I am needing to make something similar and curious if you are happy with the size of that shelter.
I forget exactly what the dimensions are, roughly I think it’s 12’ x 20’ it’s good size wise only thing I’d change now is the height of it because of the conveyor. (I built the shelter before I got the Eastonmade) However if I were to make it taller everything would get a lot more wet from blowing wind/rain ua-cam.com/video/ZKAh9Sy6BFY/v-deo.htmlsi=b4C_dqdZaE2kt-on ua-cam.com/video/UHUWmac5sEU/v-deo.htmlsi=CXj34ozaP1emiEaN
Like the set up in tge woodyard!! The excavator has given you another valuable tool!!! Be careful, Sarah knows where you sleep!!!😂😂😂 Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
We set our 12-22 on a platform that is high enough to place IBC totes underneath. I use a much smaller excavator,a Kubota 008 with a hydraulic thumb to place the logs on the lift. This eliminates the conveyor and keeps the logs away from the lift. I can see the attraction of having an excavator that is large enough to pick up large trees but for placing the logs on the lift it can be precarious. We have other machines for the heavy lifting. Also the 008 is easy to throw on the dump trailer and load off-site logs. As a Plumber for 40 years we are always taught to never use a pump when you can use gravity 😂
@@DudeRanchDIY we went 4 blocks high at 32 inches and the 10-22 sits at 24 for a total of 56. The platform is 12x9. We pulled the splitter off yesterday as we are going to pour a cement floor and install some pipes for the roof and railing. This will lift it another 6 inches and the roof will allow us to leave the splitter out when it rains. It also makes the splitter theft proof as we remove the ramps after she is up. Right now the platform is filled with stone and it is too difficult to move it around on stone. Another work in progress 😂
Good video Jake. I understand Sarah’s point. On the first fill I leave the tote intact. When it’s time to dump I cut it out. After that you definitely need the door to refill.
Jake, when you are holding the logs with the excavator to buck, try curling the bucket in and under the log to its maximum position, providing support under the log. This way, you're not relying solely on the thumb pressure to hold the log in position. It could drop on you while you're cutting rounds, causing injury, especially important and safer on the big , heavy logs. Speaking from experience.
The same thing happened to my 12-22 recently, but was from normal use. I was shocked to see how little bite that bolt had into the bushing. A trip to TSC and bought a longer, more appropriate length bolt with some loctite and back in business.
If it’s a piece of equipment sooner than later it will break. Glad it wasn’t more serious than a bolt & bushing. Great video, hopefully your mistake will help someone else avoid the same mistake. Enjoy the lake.👍😉
I probably can and will, however there was a small flange on the edge of the bushing that also broke off when it popped out, not sure how critical that is. I’ll bring to your shop on my way to the boat to get fixed 😂
I’m not gay but you look so much better without the hat. 😂 I think this is the first video I’ve ever seen where you didn’t have a hat on, or the dirty hoodie.
Btw, you can buy different sizes wheels for the Mingo Marker to mark and cut different length rounds. Optional Accessories 4 different measuring wheels available: 14", 16", 18" and 6-12-24" increments
Been awhile Any plans for some kind of table for rounds? Your back won't be young much longer. But , w the lift you can just roll them. Mingo rules. Wet barkless logs get pretty slickery though. But your logs are fairly straight. I've had little trouble on the wet crooked ones. That's means its time for the tap and die set. Of course being Canadian its probably metric 😭😭. W. R. would be standard.
If the hole goes all of the way thru the bushing you may be able to run a tap through the bushing and just buy a bolt from the hardware store. I would watch calling miss Sarah missy, she may box your ears. If not physically then verbally. I have made that mistake a few times. Both of you have a wonderful day.
Well Jake nothing wrong 😑 with not splitting wood and going to the lake Jake don’t bug to much about Sara being in the wood yard because she might not want to be there ever again 😮😊❤
May be a reason you don't......but instead of the doors you made, could you just place the totes where the openings were against one another? Keep the videos coming!
Yep, I’ve done that. The wood ends up falling at the seam of the two totes and gets intertwined. When you go to separate and pull the totes apart a bunch of wood will fall out of each one.
Because then the opening would be facing the tractor when I go to put it away and when I go to dump it or off load once seasoned. I try to place them all with the cutouts away from the machine to avoid having to reposition them in the future.
OK, i had a Eastonmade 22-28 and had the same problem, could not keep that bolt tight, plus with all the other problems, i got sick and tired of this machine, sold it, she gone, Bert
Get yourself a MINGO MARKER here!!!

Happy it wasn't a major break, but at least you got to go enjoy the lake early. Have a great weekend guys!!!
Hope you guys had fun at the lake. Sarah was awesome
The lake is always a blast! If you’re ever in CT I’ll take you out! Trying to get more Sarah, viewers seem to like her 😂

Wow your splitter must be up pretty high!

Yes more Sara, love the interaction between you two on firewood :)
Haha she makes it more fun
Hi to Sarah….i got my MS324 works very well thanks for recommending it.
Glad you’re enjoying it!!

"I've definitely covered that in a video before, missy!!!" 🤣 😂 😅 😉 I was waiting for a zinger comeback from Sara, but she decided to be nice to you 😊
lol she’s a good sport

Absolutely! Everything is a learning opportunity
I was kinda hoping we were going to see the lake, and of course Sarah, the other stuff is cool too
I’ve been compiling footage of the boat/lake, it will all be in one video end of the season
You can't chase it with a tap and put another bolt in? Or is it that banged up?
I probably can and will, however there was a small flange on the edge of the bushing that also broke off when it popped out, not sure how critical that is. I’ll bring to your shop on my way to the boat to get fixed 😂
I'll be here, I am sure we can doctor it up
Sarah, you need to be in the videos!

😂😂 lol sure you are… I meant to address the no hat. Too hot!!
He's a lumberjack and he's ok he sleeps all night and works all day
😊
I saw him wink at you.
Yes you're 100% correct we all need an excavator ❤
Nahh, just a bigger tractor.
@brandonhoad9033 why not both? 😁
Hey Jake, been hot here in Ohio as well. I'm with ya, every woodyard needs an excavator. Mike 🔥🪵🇺🇸

Yep I have the other wheels, never used them. All my wood is 16”
yes everybody needs toys for the boys
and why dont u use a board to roll the logs up thats what we do
At least you have some rounds ready to go. I would say you got your value out of that bolt. 😁
Yep! Got a bunch more cut up yesterday as well!
Been awhile

Now that I have the excavator to hold the logs suspended I don’t see much need for a table. Yep tap and die or might need a whole new arm.
Did I see Sarah move those rounds too close to the lift so you guys could get to the lake earlier?? 😂
It was definitely her fault… not the guy in the excavator… 😂
It’s hot here in NC to and I am getting to old for this .
All u have to do is tap n rethread it n put a little longer bolt back into it
Come on you 2 get to the lake, it is too hot to ponder details!! Great Vid, and I am sure that bolt is not under warranty
The lake felt great!

Jake, your ac system is low on refrigerant, must have a small leak some where.
Yeah I tried recharging it yesterday but it didn’t seem to work…
@@DudeRanchDIY should be around 36-40 psi suction pressure. Compressor turning?

Yep, I’ve done that. The wood ends up falling at the seam of the two totes and gets intertwined. When you go to separate and pull the totes apart a bunch of wood will fall out of each one.
Why couldn't you just turn the totes so that the open sides face each other, then you'd only have to put one cover on instead of installing both.
Because then the opening would be facing the tractor when I go to put it away and when I go to dump it or off load once seasoned. I try to place them all with the cutouts away from the machine to avoid having to reposition them in the future.

Too funny!
Sara, where are you?
U
You know, if you really would've wanted to split the you don't need a log lyft.A quite a bit of that is manageable stuff even though it's hot LO.L
Yep but in 96° I’m not trying to kill myself!
BTW, Yes, you do need an excavator to split wood. Love mine.
Mental gymnastics is hard.😆
