    The only problem with Jack's lessons is that he's so accomplished, you become mesmerized by his playing and forget to pick up your guitar!

    Super important to learn how to add different chords over standard progressions! That opens up both lead and rhythm guitar ideas. Great lesson as always!

    Wonderful lesson. It shows that besides having a great ear and being musical, understanding the harmonic theory is crucial for most players. So many good guitar players could be better if the knew more harmonic theory . Some music academics are excellent at theory yet they lack the musicality. The pros (like Jack Ruck) have both and that's when the plying sticks out. Very few are like Tommy Emmanuel who said he has no theoretical knowledge yet he is "the acoustic CGP" player and can master any style. As a teacher Jack Ruch has such a calm and soothing style. He explains (for me complex) theory in an understandable way. Short, focused and to the point. The music choices are each time tasteful and interesting. Thank you for posting these tutorials. Greetings from Germany

    In this consideration you can swap your f#7 with c#7 if tou want too. Look at this c#7 will contain a b in the first octave and it is a tonic chord too as your f#

    Yes, he's a hypnotist. Makes you believe you too can play some of his his clever and beautiful lines. And you can, they are certainly doable by many of us. It just takes a heck of a lot, of a heck of a lot, of a heck of a lot, of repetition and practice. At least that's what kinda works for me. Probably just like it did for him.

    So a turn around 6 2 5 1 is in realty tonic semi dominant dominant tonic progression and will work with any chords built with the sale function my friend

    I like the turnaround and you got some smooth jazz licks for it as well, but it doesn't fit well in a 12 bar. Maybe 16

    What arpeggio did you use from about 0:16 to 0:19? So tasty

  • @JunkYour925

    All chord movements are in 4ths. Fun way to play (practice) your fourths.

  • @pete_k
    @pete_k Рік тому

    @4:33 I understood you were going to use _only_ the 4 chord tones (of each A7, D7, ...), but then you start @4:44 with what sounds like A# diminished to me: a#, c#, e, g, a#, ...
    Sounds nice, but might be a bit confusing for some one expecting an arpeggio of an A7 chord?
    Other than that, a valuable lesson!

  • @dominiquecerdan8255
    @dominiquecerdan8255 2 роки тому

    Ok man thanks
    Just a determination you need
    Your key is in a when you play f#7 the chord will contain a b a the upper structure and that will make this f#7 a tonic chord not a dominant
    The only chords for dominant must contain a d and g# in the first octave

  • @jakollee
    @jakollee 2 роки тому

    Great lesson! It’s funny how it seems like you’re not playing that fast, but when I try to learn the licks,the notes go flying by! I think I’ve noticed that in some blues progressions with that 6251 sequence, sometimes the 2 chord will be major, not minor. Any thoughts on why that would be? Great soloing on the outro!

    • @andrefludd
      @andrefludd 2 роки тому +4

      In a 6251 the 2 will almost always be minor, but can sometimes be dominant. That is just because you can turn almost any chord into a dominant chord and find a way to make it work theoretically, especially with the blues. That is another great benefit of studying rhythm guitar: you then have endless melodic ideas you can superimpose over standard progressions.

    • @jakollee
      @jakollee 2 роки тому +1

      @@andrefludd thanks for your reply! I think the major 2 chord is more common in ragtime progressions, whereas you’re right that in jazz blues it’s usually minor. Like you said, when major, it functions as a dominant resolving to the 5 chord.
