The Sunbeam Rocket Grill Was Doomed To Fizzle

- The Sunbeam Rocket Grill was unlike any other grilling device. It used proprietary parchment bags to cook foods inside a pouch. Chef and food writer Matt Degen scored a Rocket Grill new in the box while thrifting and put it to the test. Here are the results.

The mystery fruit is a Kumquat, and yes, I like them and always purchase them when I can find them in stores.
Answer..It's a Kumquat. I have eaten them. A citrus relative with loads of flavor in the rind. They are good raw, or slice with seeds removed in a stir fry fusion dish.
"The Rocket Grill will be rocketing back to the thrift store." LOL Thanks, Chef Matt, for taking us along for the ride. And those little orange things are kumquats, and they are very delicious. Haven't seen them in ages.
Glad I could provide some comic relief! 😅
Cool appliance. About 20 years ago I bought a new top of the line 450 watt Sunbeam Mixmaster mixer with the motorized turntable with all the attachments. It is still going strong. Sunbeam seems to have gotten out of the kitchen appliance game and went into the personal care business.
Good for you on getting that mixer when did. Those look rad 👍
These were all over the thrift stores a decade ago or more. I remember I loved to set all the timers on them to go off at the same time. There were everywhere and then they disappeared. Haven't seen one in years
🤣
The little orange fruit are kumquats. 😊
They are kumquats usually eaten whole. I have never seen a "Rocket Grill" and I can see why it fell out of favor.
Great Idea..cook in plastic...NOPE😆
Love my Iron Skillets &
Vintage Paul Revere Ware!
Those are kumquats. It is a citrus fruit. You eat the whole thing skin, seeds, and all.
I used to enjoy using mine years ago, until the pouch supply dried up. I think it's still kicking around here somewhere. It was fast indeed, but kind of silly.
Yep. I see bags for sale on eBay but it seems most people want about $1 per bag, which can really eat into cost savings.
I love mine....... once you figure out the quirks, it works Great.....
Good to know! Did you stock up on bags or make your own?
I find them at the Goodwills...... I do have to use large paper clips at the bottom of the bags so the food doesn't fall all the way down past the heating plates.
I haven't seen kumquats in a long time! Wow.
I had a countertop Sunbeam microwave that died after a few years of very light service. Very disappointed with it.
This grill... yeah I'll bet they were counting on those proprietary parchment bags bringing in the money. Once you find out how the grill works though, I'll bet people went, "Meh" like I did.
Yep. Perhaps they counted on a razor model, where overpriced blades make the real profit.
Trivia is a kumquat fruit
🚀 GGGGGRILL
Kumquats highly nutritious with a weird seed...I just eat the whole thing.
Doomed
kumquat
I just found it for sale on Amazon as of June 5/2024
Interesting. Perhaps old stock sold by a reseller? Well, I hope it serves you better than it did me. Thanks for watching and happy cooking! :-)
Thank you for the review I think that thing has to be hot before you add the food.
Correct. And I only mentioned it in passing, but I did indeed pre-heat it for the 5 mins suggested.
@@IWantToCook I already had the words typed (you did cover it) it looks suspiciously like a wedding gift I purchased many years ago
Kumquats
It’s easy to see why they stopped making that “grill”😆😬
Yep! 😳
