- DC Skate Shoes is probably the most important skateboarding shoe company in history. If it wasn't for the innovative and forward thinking designs, skate shoes wouldn't be were they are today. Through staying to true to the culture of skateboarding and creative marketing DC Shoes has paved the way for many other brands to come. In this video we take a closer look at the history of DC Shoes and what makes them so special.

I wrote a bunch of emails to skaters back in like 2001 when I was a kid and Josh Kalis was the only one to write me back. True legend.
He was a legit legend and totally underated street skater!
wow u must be like 40 now.
Had no idea Ken Block was a founder of DC, that’s crazy. I only knew of him because of Hoonigan. Great vid guys, thank you for all the work you do
Thanks Henry 👊 Yeah man! Ken Block is a talented guy
Hes an og
He was also a close friend of the legend Dave Mirra
Man everyone had DCs back then. Now you see everyone wearing vans
i got DCs
I grew up skateboarding in the 90s and was amateur sponsored. To this day all I wear is DC’s and I own about 40 pairs, every single colour way in all the OG classics. I won’t wear anything else.
I know, i wear both still.
I ordered DC shoes two months ago and they still have not came in. They been moving shops for ever
Vans are freaking wack 😂😂
Found DC through Ken Block. Rest in Peace Legend. 🕊
i really appreciate this video as a skateboarder. the sneaker world and the skate world go hand in hand
Yes and streetwear
Hope the next skateboarding shoe is Etnies, or Osiris
Will see how this one does but those are both pioneer brands to consider
Osiris definitely deserves a video. Especially considering the A$ap Rocky scandal on the D3
@@fernandoreyes680 I can’t blame Rocky for that like he didn’t know but he should have
They sleepn on etnies
Airwalk also shaping the future of skate shoes
Born an raised in Philly we all miss the fountain ledges an stairs. Bike board didn’t matter I road it there.
Dope man I wish I had the chance to skate it as a kid
LOVE park used to be insane
I love “Rob & Big” to this day! I had a pair of Dyrdeks back in 2007.
Haha That show was hilarious! I was bummed when Tony cancelled it
I'm not a sneaker head and I usually research running/ trail shoes for functionality over style. With that said, I really enjoy your channel and learning about the cultures and histories. I can see the work put into the research and production. Thank you for the videos and I wish you nothing but success!
Thank you so much!! Thanks for noticing the effort we put into them. I’m glad you enjoyed the video dude
We need an individual video for the lynx, jk1, legacy, and Stevie Williams. They all deserve a full video
When I’m looking for discounted skate shoes, my first thought would be to head towards my local Burlington, Ross, Marshall’s or a thrift store. It’s common to find some DC’s, Supra, emericas and other skate brands.
Also I love your videos guys 👍
when i want kicks, i always pass thru our local/independent skate shop in person just cos if i Want something, i want them to have first shot at such.
you're right about the stores listed, tho i'd add zappos, pys, eastbay, ccs, etc to that.
if you don't want a Specific Sneaker, if you can roll w etnies instead of vans instead of DCs, instead of other, one can get decent deals, especially after new years
I'm here in Australia and it's crazy how many good skate shoes I find in op shops here and there is a ton of them around me ,
Can definitely say these shoe's were huge and dominated in Philly and New Jersey all through the early 2000s. If you skateboarded in NJ/Philly as a kid during that era there is a 100% chance you had a pair.
Great video man, brought back a lot of awesome memories!
Boys went out side the boxing this one love it
Diggin deep in the stacks 😂😂😎
Shredded more pairs of DCs than most ,skated DC and Es for 22 years.
I owned and skated in the Stevie Williams OGs ,beeeest model.Same colour as in the video.👑
Respect to all the 90s skaters out there 🛹💀🤙
Me and three friends, plus a friends dad, drove 12+ hours from Ohio to skate LOVE. While there, we met and hung out with Khalis and watched Williams film for the DC video and a Thrasher shoot...we even made it in a photo where Williams is switch heelflipping off the high ledge over a trashcan. Some of my best memories!
Bro i just wanna say i love your videos, the sneaker history playlist is literally like crack to me lol. You guys are a huge inspiration and I aspire to make quality videos like these that get ppl addicted to em
Sorry for the year late reply but just wanted to say thank you Koomy! All the best dude
Didn't have much respect for DC before this video, thanks for doing what you do
It’s kinda been looked down these past few years but they have a lot of heritage
Hell yeah man DC definitely was the Nike of action sports. Those Lynx were that 🔥 when I was a kid. I heard Stevie Williams say that he thought all the DCs and other skate shoes were wack, and he would only wear them when skating. Kinda made me sad a bit.
You remember the Reebok Stevie Williams joints ?
@@NachoAverageFinds yeah tbh I never had a problem with those early nike and reebok/ice cream joints. I thought they were pretty legit. Now all he skates is Nike these days. Apparently he almost had a deal to be sponsored by Jordan brand! As a skateboarder! That woulda been wild!
@@wtfRyantater Nike / Jordan hesitated because they felt that the core young skateboarding audience that loved Stevie also resonated with his "perceived" endorsement of recreational marijuana smoking. The prudes couldn't be accused of embracing a top athlete with a publicly questionable lifestyle choice.
@@NachoAverageFinds At one point, we all heard the rumor that he was going to headline "Savier" in a main sponsorship deal. If you don't remember them, it's because it was a sneaky industry secret company that seemed to echo ACG and then it leaked they were actually funded by Nike (years before NikeSB ever existed).
Nice video! My brother is Ken Block 😊 DC was sold to Quiksilver in 2004, my brother continued to work with Quiksilver for another 10+ years. He then started [HOONIGAN] and he’s mostly known for his viral driving videos called Gymkhana (my fav is Gymkhana 5)
Man your content, delivery and production is always top shelf. Props to you and your brother. Another great video
Thanks Scott 🙏
Dope video dude,I was a skater myself till a year ago,im into sneakers now,it’s nice to see you know something about the skate culture aswell, not only the sneaker culture!
Of course man! They intersect culturally
The Stevie's Williams were the best DC's
Those were insane!
They were jordan 12 rip offs basicly n no
Man, I could feel Brian's passion was a tad higher when talking about skate shoes than other sneakers (which is already a very high bar to jump!) haha
Yep! The Lynx, The Kalis & The Williams OG were the shoes to be seen in. Until Vans released the Half Cabs in '92, still the most iconic skate shoes in the history of skateboarding. ❤
Another great video , the nostalgic chill lofi beats in the background followed by a great explanation of DC shoes with the whole video being chill and mellow
Thanks for the kind words 😎
So excited to see you guys back, love the content!
It feels good to be back 😎
Still in that early comment line. Lol, DC was popular during my high school year's. Lol, baggy pants and big skateboard shoes.
Hope you guys are well, and enjoying the holidays 🙏🏿
Yea I had baggy corduroy pants 😂😂
Don’t remember Droors in NY but I do remember JNCO Jeans with Alien 👽 on it lmao 😆 I’m old🤦♂️
Thanks 🙏 for the video
😂😂 the jnco jeans was a must
Loved this video. Never been a DC man myself but I can definitely admire their history and design!
They look like little tanks on feet 🦶😎
DC A250 was my and still my dream shoe
I had those! Peep eBay dude
damn, this is an unexpected gem of a topic to be made🔥🔥 nacho and bryan always be making banger videos.. much love brothaa!😆✌️
Thanks for the love dawg 😎😎
I can still remember my first pair when I was 15ish.. navy blue suede. I was obsessed with them.
Side note - what happened with the second part of the Kobe series guys? Looking fwd to that
It will definitely come we just got so many projects going on
Man! You guys do so much research on your videos! Thank you! So I remember on Rob and Big, Rob had a neckless with every signature shoe he had. It was pretty sweet! And I do not know that DC had collaboration back then, because my local skate shop prob couldn't get them... or CCS mail order.
It was a great time for skating
Seeing Rob and Big clips brought me back. RIP Big Black 🙏🙏
like christmas morning when you upload!
We appreciate it David 🙏
finally a new video! thank you for this, literally made my day
So what did you think ? Thanks for watching as always 😎
@@NachoAverageFinds was really interesting as always
Nice 👍 Job on the Variation! Good To You Again Bro!
Blessings 😇🙏
Stay safe man thank you for the kind words
Good to have you guys back on yt
Thank you man! Feels good to be back and working
Im so old and live about 45 min from Philly so I remember skating LOVE. Any given day you could catch williams harold hunter or kalis or even Bam Margera skating there. We had a super early street scene back then. Kids in the city didn't skate vert due to the living situations. Vert was more of a suburb thing back then. One very important place in philly that still exists to this day is FDR skatepark. It's a fully designed and built by skaters and is big and quite well known. It's pretty epic honestly. You can still catch pros stopping by whenever they are in the city.
DC is one of the best shoe companies out there; they have a special place in my heart. Back when times are hard and I had gotten my kid a pair of school shoes, they were from Ross, and they were DC’s. They fell apart after five days separating at the sole; without hesitation DC sent the new pair in the mail overnight. That’s customer service.
This is so sick! thanks for the great content
Thanks man!
YESSS I hope you can do more skate brands videos!! Even though they probably don’t get as many views as basketball shoe vids :(
Of course man! Skate shoes are dope!
Bro of NGL this channel changed my life most of what I learned about shoes from y'all I swear I've made a lot of new friends and $$$ as a reseller I don't know what I would do with out yall
😂😂 the best of both worlds I guess 🤷♂️
@@NachoAverageFinds bruh swing the pal pay I got chu
or even better how bout the patron
@@thespacemopper5457 We are most likely going to start one in the future 🙏 I appreciate that bro
Tell Travis to throw these on and everyone gonna be on them again, 300+ resell even tho there like 40$ right now 😂 same thing happen with dunks
fr i saw a classic dunk colorway go for like 1500$
Happy New Year 🎈🎆 Nacho Brothers!
Hope all is well! Have heard from you guys in awhile. Can’t wait for new content!
Blessings 😇🙏

Love this channel man!
Thank you Ken!!
The DC Lynx were and always will be the pinnacle of DC. Timeless.
Loved the episode
Thanks man it was a labor of love
before i went crazy for J's, DC are my dream shoes. all i cab buy are vans, but i always wanted those dc shoes with big DC embro on the heels.
The Court Graffiks. Classic!
Yes, love your new video. Love all your content. It is the best on UA-cam and anywhere else for sneaker history and stories. Please...please make more faster. Thx you...
I had some light blue Kalis OG's that were so nice... I just happened to be at the Torque Center, my local skate/bike shop the day they arrived. Best shoes ever.
Great video. I still have some of my original Droors clothing and I still have the Danny Way and Colin Mckay 2nd series.
Would love to see a video on eS shoes! Loved the video.
I’m old enough to have had Droors clothing lol lol ohh the memories
Yeah me too. Wish I still had them.
love this content. hope you can you do some other skatebrand as well bro.
Definitely man. I want to do Supra and eS
I remember having the Boxers in the mid 90s and a pair with airmax style soles in mid 00s. They need retroes.
Was waiting for a new video, here we are
That video blows my mind. Wow!
Glad you enjoyed man 😎
My dudes got me in middles school feelings. The DC video, the Yeah Right video....damn. 🔥🌲💨
😂😂 glad you enjoyed
@@NachoAverageFinds always do my dudes!💪💪💯
I've been using and skating dc like almost forever. In fact dc is the most comfortable shoes i could ever ask for. Not only they are cheap as hell but the tech they offer is amzing like no other brand think about that. I've skating the blue rob d shoes with a velcro, and still the best shoes i've ever skate, and the other one is evan smith shoes from few years back. They all skate like amazing!
wow great video. love the details and yeah dc shoes are sick. keep it up
Thanks mang
You should really make a video on new era cap.
I’m a big 5950 guy 😎😎
Being from harrisburg PA, I was luckily enough to skate love park when it was awesome to skate...full of ppl everyday!!
Man it's been a minute with DC shoes wow!!! Let's hop into it!
EDIT: Wow really informative video didn't know they collabed with sup!
I'd love to see a video on supra as well they were big in the early 10s (probably earlier than that but in my country they were huge due to the jerking movement of the time).
That’s dope !! What country ?
Dope video again. Respect to the Brothers Medero Philly inda house
Yee yee!! Thanks bro. Peace to Philly
Love your stuff
Oh yeah, I had the court graffix, didn't hold up to skating that well.
Also, I had the Droors bookbag, so dope!
Currently have skate 3 pair of Etnies:) Thanks!
great video!
Thanks man
The only DC shoes I wear are court graphic.
I love the fact that they're doing collabs now... I just copped the limited edition Black Sabbath court shoes to afro my ridiculous DC shoe collection. Lol
More skateboarding history please!
Welcome back fellas
Back like we never left 👍
great video man! hope you make the air max 93 one day
I’ve been wearing the 93 all most all this Fall
Dope vid 🔥
I had some DC merch back in the day. Etnies, and even Osiris. Good days.
Marc Johnson's brown with the m on the side and gum sole fav. Skate shoes ever!
Awesome vid as always Nacho and Co! I do agree with you Brian about the 'big' and 'chunky' shoes of the 90s. I recently bought a pair of Globe Tilt sneakers and wore them almost daily. And for me, It feels natural to be wearing what would be considered a big bulky shoe! Don't get me wrong, Vulc shoes are good too (Gotta respect Cons and Vans!) But, one thing I notice for me personally is the vulc construction while giving good boardfeel does tend to wear out my feet a lot. I may have been born at the end of the 90s (1998!) Imma still rep it till death!
Stay awesome dudes!
PS: What boards did you own or buy the most back then in the 90s?
board brand for me in 1990s: THINK!
Good job 👏
bro i love your channel
I really appreciate you saying that
I bought the whole hat jacket n shoe match combo back in like 05
I had the Travis Barker Signature DC Alias Remix shoes and loved those! They need to bring those back.
I remember cause he would have his jeweler make a mini version of every sneaker to be another link in his necklace.
Who Josh Kalis or Stevie? Haha either way that’s awesome!
@@NachoAverageFindsDyrdek
That's so mind blowing😱🤯I never knew Ken Block was apart of DC's history. I only knew him for hoonigan
Legend in the Game
I remember Droors…but I had no idea it’s what came of DC! Mind blown!
Cool video.
Thanks dude sorry for the delay on the upload
I really loveeee infascinating with DC Shoes in general. My first pair that got me in to collecting sneakers and streetwear were not nikes nor adidas or anything. It was DC Shoes. The pair that i got DC Evan Smith
That’s dope man interesting store forsure
Still love the feel and fit of dc’s. Tried many others in the past and still haven’t found anything that comes close
Always thought they were called, DG haha cheers mate
Im tellin u DC need to keep Wes just like what they doin to Kalis
i thought Tiago going to NB was a sht move, DC shoulda kept him on the team at all costs.. more money obviously so i cant hate on Tiago though. My favorite skater to watch
Amigo buenas tardes es increíble la historia y cultura qué hay en mundo nuestro mundo de los tenis gracias por este tremendo video increíble un saludo de cabo san Lucas mexico
🙏🏽 keep up the good work! Any interest in covering Oakley? I had a pair of their shoes that I loved back in the day.
🤔🤔 thanks for watching man I’ll see if we add that to the list
I didn’t really skate but my cousins and a lot of friends did, I used to walk up from the bball courts to the skate park and we’d all chill and shit. I miss those days.
Same here bro! This video was all nostalgia for me
@@NachoAverageFinds you should definitely try it! It’s never too late man 😂
Uuuuuuuuuuhh boy just what I needed.
I freaking love Droors! I’d totally rock my Droors hoodie again.
I had the rob dyrdek bass head or stereo head it was all white had a bunch of stereos stitched in and that was in like 2008 or 9 they were so comfy I miss that era of skate shoes
You guys gotta do a quick video on the soap skating shoes. Those were the ones circa 1998 👟🤷🏽♂️
Hahaha Yooo! I had Soaps lmao
oh this is unlocking some classic teen feels for me! yeah so im from outside philadelphia and definitely skated classic love park (well i mean i took my board there and smoked blunts mostly lol). i didnt sport dc's though i had etnies back then and vans
Dope video. Would be great if you guys look at Supra somewhere down the line. IMO, Vaider is one of the coolest high tops out there.
My man! Thanks for the comment in the group and on here. Yeah Supra is definitely one of those brands we want to cover in the future
DOPE!!! Yall came outta left field wit this one'
Didn't know you were into skating especially that era/genre of skater..
Be ill if u can delve abit deeper with the skate brands like éS (sal 23's, Koston) or Axion.
Kalis did a collab with Jeru the damaja too. I have a video of it, il upload it when I can
Props from NewZealand 👊🏼
