It's amazing to me how powerful evangelicals think Satan is. When my parents took me to a mainline Lutheran church when I was a kid, the preacher said thinking Satan and demons had any power was blasphemous. I'm no longer Christian, and don't believe in any supernatural stuff, but the right-wing Evangelicals seem like a totally different religion to me. Satan is much more important to them than God is.

    • @lsmmoore1
      @lsmmoore1 2 роки тому +10

Apparently evangelicals also think that any initiative to bring peace to the world, or rights to any and all disenfranchised groups, is originated from Satan as well and is a trap and a setup for a "one world government". I'm betting your Lutheran preacher would think THAT is blasphemous too, right along with the assertion by folks claiming these things that this is a part of normal Christianity and what the Bible is "truly communicating". That latter assertion, btw, has even a lot of non-Christians in evangelical-dominant regions convinced that most Christians believe that particular brand of nonsense.

My mother was in to this kind of thing back in the 80s and 90s.
I swear, there’s nothing new under the sun.
When I was a kid my mother wouldn’t take us to the doctor or hospital (especially not me since I was the scapegoat child) or give us medications.
If I got a cold or the flu she would tell me it was my own fault for thinking negative thoughts. When I became a teen and had period cramps so severe that I fainted, I was also told it was my fault for inviting negative vibes in to my life and now it was manifesting as pain.
Knee dislocated? My fault for being negative. Pop it back in place and walk it off.
Fainted from heat exhaustion? Nope, not heat exhaustion, negative vibes and I should be more positive. Now stop drinking water and sitting there and let’s keep hiking.
She had a crystal on her nightstand that was supposed to charge her positive vibrations while she slept.
She also had a crystal in front of a few dollar bills almost like a shrine and that was supposed to help bring her wealth. It never did.
It’s wild to me how much of the stuff I grew up with is bordering on mainstream now. Or at least common in woo circles.
It scares me because I was absolutely medically neglected and abused.
I hate to think that there’s countless kids out there being raised in a similar way. I hope there’s someone else there to help them if they need it.

      @intan2768 I’m good. I’m married and have a kid.
I’m very low contact with my mother. It would be no contact, but she lives with my grandma and forces her way in every chance she gets.
I don’t like her being around my kid.
She got breast cancer a couple years ago and she will only trust surgeons and surgery. She flat refuses to do chemo or radiation because “that stuff is poison and makes the cancer worse.”
She’s convinced that between surgery and a specific diet she’ll be fine.
And who knows, maybe she will be. Maybe in the 3 surgeries she’s had they got all the cancer and it hasn’t metastasized. But literally no one knows because she won’t do any scans or blood work because she thinks those are “just scams invented by Big Pharma to make money off scared people”.
So, any day now she could break a bone and find out she has advanced bone cancer, or she could live to be 90 convinced that positive thinking and that diet cured her, when really it was that the surgeons got all the cancer cells before they spread.
Either way, after my grandma passes away, I plan to go fully no contact with my mother.
She done a lot more awful stuff and continues to try to manipulate and abuse me, my brother, my dad, and my kid. I plan to remove my kid and I from that cycle.

Biblical references to oils weren't "essential oils". The technology to extract those ingredients did not exist. Instead, they may have been the "oils of" Myrrh and Frankincense. Most likely in their resin form, but not unlikely to be pressed into oils. Just not "essential oils". The intent of those stories in the Bible and elsewhere were to condone the action of gifting, of sharing, or respect and love not simply imbue readers/followers with access to magical ingredients.

@@crowdemon_archives They weren't just expensive, they didn't exist. Essential oils are produced through a complicated distillation process that wasn't developed until recently. They are also very wasteful, in that it can take thousands of pound of plant matter to produce just 1 pound of essential oil. Historically aromatic liquid oils would've been made by infusing resins, spices, etc, into a carrier oil, usually by heating these ingredients together (putting them in a jar in the sun is a common method). A big issue I have with essential oils marketing is that the medical claims they make aren't even based on traditional uses, since that didn't exist.

There are oils, but they were for ceremonial and not medicinal purposes and I'm pretty sure co-opting religious objects for personal use must be some kind of blasphemy anyway. The amusing thing is if we break all of the religious symbolism down to a secular philosophical level, I actually agree with the lady that the book is "satanic." xD
And I don't even mean "satanic" as in "evil," but more as in regards to "pride" and "what the individual wants." This is at least within the framework when old Jewish theology had more of a theme of "truth vs. pride" rather than the dualistic "good vs. evil" after the 2nd temple period (and I don't know if Drew reads comments on your channel, but I'm thinking that this topic may interest him as the religious philosophies nerd inside me goes off, lol).
Meanwhile, I tend to like looking at the God of the old testament as a representation of truth itself (can be arbitrary, overwhelming, and compels humility), which interestingly corresponds a lot to truth in the atheistic sense in a number of ways. While the God of the old testament tends to have a reputation of being a real jerk, the take home message is the idea of "humbling myself to truths I may not personally like," which is absolutely necessary for the scientific method to work as it aligns with "humbling myself to overwhelming evidence based on repeated measurements."
Now when we get to the prosperity gospel people and woo woo new age "law of attraction" people, their motto of "God or the universe will bless me as long as I continue to think positive / be faithful enough" runs completely contrary to the "fear of God" in my opinion. It's no longer about "humbling myself to truths I may not like," but "wanting something to be true hard enough until it works." That's no longer "fear of God," but "worshipping what I want God/the truth to be," which aligns with that person's pride. (meanwhile, cue my hot take that truth seeking atheists ironically "fear God" more than the hyper religious folk who worship what I call "first world problems God." The atheists just don't call it that.)

I lost my second oldest brother to complications from AIDS, my oldest brother passed away from pseudomitsoma peritonei (which is completely operable now), lost my father from leukemia and my mother from Alzheimer's in a period of 25-26 years. If anyone would have come to any of them with some miracle oil cure, they probably would have tried it out of desperation. And that thought makes me want to throw up. The death of Christianity will come at the hand of Christians like these, who are also responsible for the death of many who believed them as they struggled to breathe from the panini we are still on. The idea that people are running around giving people oils to cure deathly diseases and basically discard actual doctors, is a horrible legacy for the Christian now. And to prove to you that these Christians don't even understand their own religion, her upset over what Jesus did and didn't do but completely ignoring the fact that the whole thing says "the father, the son and the holy spirit" which is supposed to be in every single one of us because Jesus died for our sins....in other words, we are god through the holy spirit, according to the bible they all claim to follow. This is infuriating, sorry for the novel.

@henry McLaughlin I'm assuming that means at one time there was a book she had (such as this one) that she later found out was demonic. Meaning it represents ideas that go against Christianity. There's a belief that certain things like books, knick-knacks, symbols, etc. that people have in their homes with no purpose or intent in regards to the spiritual world, that gives evil spirits a "legal" entry to inhabit. By having those items, the evil forces will work to bring discourse in your life making you unhappy, friction with your family, laying seeds of temptations, etc. I have a friend that has explained all that to me.

YL brought this on themselves by courting people who already had a religion.
When you have a man with two guv'nors, and the two begin to clash, it causes cognitive dissonance, which is uncomfortable. We're driven to avoid discomfort, so typically the person will try to avoid the pain of cognitive dissonance by the method that seems to require the least mental effort, which is by trying to reconcile the two ideologies in their mind just enough to reach a compromise they can live with.
(All of which makes sense from a biological standpoint. Brains are expensive to run, and the body just wants to be able to function again without feeling distracted by nagging doubts, not to go into deep thought trying to reach a rational conclusion. Hence, the brain routes around the worrisome thoughts as efficiently as it can from a strictly short-term viewpoint.)
BUT, when the clash of two belief systems gets too serious for the mind to smooth over, there's a crisis of faith and the person will have to pick a winner -- whichever of the two belief systems they hold as the higher priority for whatever reason. This often results in a dramatic heel turn and the person turning fully, viciously against the 'losing' ideology while doubling down on the winner.
YL has been testing these waters for a while and probably thought their indoctrination was strong enough that there wouldn't be backlash to their latest woo chant pamphlet.
And still, I imagine there are some oily huns who weren't as Christian as these leavers who are speaking up. Maybe for them the YL ideoilogy won out, and they're still in. I also imagine there are lots of crunchy Christians with more room for woo in their beliefs, and they haven't undergone a critical clash of beliefs yet, so they're still in too.
Wow, long essay. Anyway, thanks for this vid. Always fascinating to me to try to understand these trends among huns and scammers.

How did it take the Christians this long to realize that these organizations eventually lead to Occult thought? If you follow essential oil groups for long enough, you begin to learn about the new age and spirituality and at the heart of it is the idea of pantheism.
The two groups are incompatible and watching them try to integrate is laughable at best and doomed to succeed at worst.
This is wishful thinking at its best.

I've literally experienced some positive results after using oils, when I was so desperate because the doctors couldn't figure it out and I waisted money on tests, co-pays and deductibles. I've also used some oils, that did nothing for me. I've used prescriptions that have made me sicker than I was before I used it too. I won't discount people's own experiences because that's their own . I feel sorry for people who have gotten talked into spending more money then they should have on any MLM.
