"Spider my friend while mining chunk, then attacked." This poem, titled "Day 19", is a meta commentary on evolving culture and society's ever-changing fads, as well as a reflection on fake friends. What one tends to notice first about this poem is its simplicity. Being comprised of eight words and cutting out others that would make it grammatically correct, it's almost laughably simple. But that's exactly the idea; it's just plain and simple. This serves two purposes. The first is a message directly to the reader, in a way. It's a message about the society we live in, and our expectations of those around us. People have gotten simpler and simpler. We've cut out more and more from our speech, to the point where sentences comprised only of letters make sense to everyone. This poem is written in this "internet language". Cutting out important grammatical sections, such as simply saying "Spider my friend"; this almost caveman speak, reminds us that we've been heading in that direction. We're called to step back and think, "Has our society degraded so much that our fine art... is THIS?" But it's in the fact that it is fine art that comes the second point. This poem mocks other great English poets and authors. It flips their flowery language on its head and says "Go ahead and spend years of your life developing a single poem, complete with language too complicated to understand without a thorough analysis paper! I'm superior to you even without the use of grammar!" It reflects on the very idea of poetry. The definition of poetry is "literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm" (Google Search, 2024) and this poem takes that idea and plays with it. This is a very distinctive poem, to be sure, but it's where the emotion is expressed in this poem the true genius presents itself. And once again, simplicity is key. This is a very simple poem, with a very simple language, undoubtedly told by a very simple character living in a very simple world. Most notably, the author's emotions up to this point are likely equally simple. But not betrayal. Betrayal is a complex and layered feeling, comprised of the sorrow of losing a friend, the anger of having been tricked, and the fear of what will happen next. Three emotions layered on top of each other, all being forced down the throat of this very simple character. This is the most emotion they've ever felt, the most sorrow they've ever experienced, and the most pain they've ever been in. Add to that, it's likely literal pain. "Spider", if that is a proper name and not another grammatical shortcut, was said to have attacked. Surely someone whose vocabulary is so simple couldn't grasp the concept of an emotional attack, at least not yet. If "Spider" had yelled at, bullied, or gotten angry at them, they would've said just that. This was a physical attack, and that only adds to the emotional feeling of betrayal, the physical feeling of pain. And we feel for him. But this poem's not done yet, oh no. There's more meta commentary on society, and it can be found in the actual plot. And with such simple wording, it's a plot that any reader can wrap their head around. "Spider my friend while mining chunk," suggests that either the protagonist found (or was found by) "Spider" while mining, or they for some reason decided to both be present during it. The most obvious explanation is that they both wanted the chunk to be mined, for some reason or another. The way this is worded, "Spider" could've been mining instead or as well, but due to the cultural context of this piece one would assume the narrator was the one doing the work. After that comes the substance of the poem, and the part we all remember: "...then attacked." Besides breaking the rules of grammar yet again, these two words tell us why the story is one that needs to be told. "Spider" presumably waited until our main character was finished mining, then struck. This brings us to the next point. Though the protagonist is the narrator, and therefore some sort of audience stand-in, it's "Spider" that represents us, in a way. How many times have we tried to exploit others for personal gain? And how many people are we "friends" with, purely because being friends with them is beneficial? Having fake friends is a horrible thing. It feels bad, knowing that someone is or was your friend only because you provided them with something. It's simply a mask put on to compel you to give them what they want. After all, they're your "friend". But we have to think, how many times have WE done that? How many times have we been friends with someone just so we can use "Oh yeah, we're friends" to get in places, or to get some solid resource, or to have them aid you financially, or morbidly, to land a spot in their will? How much better are we, really, than "Spider"? However, the grandest, yet subtlest piece of commentary is underlying throughout the piece- even throughout this essay, and it's brilliant. It's the fact that one's mind while reading this goes to something so cliché, so obvious and overdone. We assume "Spider" is some sort of twist villain, which movie studios and authors have been obsessed with as of late. This is never stated, and it is actually we who are twisted. For all we know, "Spider" could've attacked an enemy, to protect the narrator. The narrator could've been simply recounting the events of his day, and there could've been absolutely no controversy whatsoever. But humans, as a race, survive off of assumptions. We're constantly making assumptions, from big consequential assumptions to common misunderstandings among friends. Why, even understanding that the world is still there when we close our eyes is an assumption! Me writing this analysis, assuming that anyone, even a single person, will care... is an assumption. And this poem reminds us that assuming can be treacherous. So in conclusion, this "simple" poem is anything but simple. It shows that society has been getting simpler, but also shows us that sometimes, there's beauty in simplicity. Sometimes, you only need eight words to craft a masterpiece, and sometimes, you-- ...WAIT, SOMEONE ALREADY WROTE AN ANALYSIS!? *NOOOOOOO!!!*
I've had a world almost like this for quite a while, but without even the wood and apples. Progress is indeed very slow and grindy, but it is very fulfilling to see everything come together.
You can actually get wood without a bonus chest, you just have to kill pillager patrols to get emeralds, then trade with a wandering trader for saplings.
This was so much fun to watch, i'm absolutely psyched for the next 100 haha. You have such a nice personality and narration style, it suits the videos a lot. I enjoy that you don't yell or condescend, it's just a chill time. I also really like that you go out of your way to build cool stuff, rather than focusing on pure efficiency. Like, this world has character to it. From practical/more traditional builds, to the lighting altar, these things are not technically required to complete the challenge or make progress in it, but they're there because they're fun and interesting. I imagine it's quite hard to make such a simple premise involving so much grinding compelling for 100 days of it, but you absolutely nailed it.
I've spent a couple of months doing a similar challenge to this, except I have wood. This is perhaps some of the most fun yet interesting challenges you could do on Minecraft considering with the slow, yet rewarding features within this world. Loved this video, and hope you do more of this!
You should do 241 days, now that you have villagers, you’ve basically won super flat, you can get tons of items from the villagers, trade with wandering traders to get saplings, bamboo, SAND, so there is so much left to do.
this is so incredible, seeing how you can make this such beautiful world out of starting with 1 block! I love these types of videos because I get to see how creative and amazing people are at this. you are so amazing!
I love watching these videos because I dont have the patience to do this. I created a superflat world with no structures so I couldn't use villages but then once I got to the nether I realized that I turned structure spawning off making it so there weren't any fortresses or bastions. So I did the only reasonable thing I could do. I took screenshots of everything in my world, recreated the seed, and built everything in the same exact place using creative mode. But this time I left structures on so I could actually get blaze rods. Then after I got them, I went back to the overworld and tried to throw an ender eye. That's when I realized strongholds didn't spawn in superflat worlds on that version. So now I really want to try it again in 1.19 where I can just spawn the stronghold myself once I get the eyes

"spider my friend while mining chunk, then attacked." Within the extract, "I Spent 100 Days on 3 Layers of DIRT", poet, Yeah Jaron evokes emotions of surprise and betrayal within the piece. The piece is about the straining hardships of a content creator surviving 100 days in a super-flat world in the popular game, minecraft. When progressing through this, the author describes one of his experiences when he says that a, " spider my friend while mining chunk, then attacked. " The word 'then' depicts the thought of betrayal and unknowing to the situation. Because of how he depicts the spider as his 'friend', this makes the listener believe that there is bliss to be seen in the fore future, but due to the sudden use of 'then', especially after a comma, the listener is now susceptible to an immense feeling of disbelief and betrayal in the thought and mind. This makes the listener feel as if they have been put into the shoes of poet, Jaron, and because of this, we, the listener, believe we are now objected to an emotion of guilt and suppression, FOR the poet. In conclusion, poet, Yeah Jaron has been able to create not only suspense, but betrayal due to the description of hardships within the extract, " I Spent 100 Days on 3 Layers of DIRT." Thank you for reading :)

the interesting thing about these "100 days" or any like crazy minecraft challenge like a hardcore build isnt necessarily the challenge itself. ofc i love to think and learn about the problems you may face and how you solve them but to me, the real reason i liked this video is because of the editing and commentary. the 24 minutes and 54 seconds flew by with how entertaining and engaging this video was. im so glad you stuck it out to complete the goal and i would love to see what else you build out of dirt and mud and what else you can collect!!

3:00 if you are interested, the odds of getting 3 iron from 114 zombies if there is a 1/120 of dropping you can see it as a pascal(3, 1/120) distribution, its aprox 0.14% to get those 3 iron in 114 zombies
7:57 I love the detail that the sound is ACTUALLY playing on repeat now. It would have been really funny (yet really annoying) if it was for the rest of the video

It’s a shame that vindicators no longer spawn as part of patrols. If they did that’d be a legitimate source of emeralds and would have let you purchase saplings from a wandering trader. Alternatively if you could change the biome of your superflat world to allow foxes to spawn then there’s a 20% chance of a fox spawning with an item, and 5% of the time that item is an emerald.

We gotta see him do 100 days of hypixel skyblock at this point. Doing the same thing over and over again for slightly better gear and progress is what hypixel skyblock is, and what super flat is.
I know this video is 2 years old now but i just wanted to say that there is a way to get wood without a bonus chest. There is a snapshot for 1.14 called 18w46a. In this snapshot pillager patrols spawn very frequently and also have a chance of spawning vindicators. Since vindicators drop emeralds, you can then update to a later version, then trade with wandering traders for saplings. Also, you can get buckets from the traders as well if you get enough emeralds. And also before 1.17 when copper was added drowneds dropped gold directly. (unless you consider switching versions cheating )
I watch all three of your videos on this and decided to give it a go myself (with the only change being I got a bonus chest). It’s a lot harder then it looks, especially when your chest gives you jungle trees instead of oak so you can’t get apples qwq
this guy is extremely honest by saying that he spent 100 days not survived 100 days because he was not on hardcore and he got killed 5 times by zombies i respect you, Jaron
I did this on bedrock with bonus chest up to curing villagers. Going without saplings looks painful. No, painful is what I did. This is on another level.
“Spider my friend while mining chunk, then attacked”(5:20) In this short poem “Spider my friend,” upcoming hemingway and popular minecraft youtuber Yeah Jaron utilizes symbolism with his spider friend who later attacks him, revealing how you should not trust everyone you meet, while also illuminating the loneliness in his world. Yeah Jaron is mining his own business until “spider my friend” attacks him(Jaron). While Jaron is at his weakest point, mining a chunk with his bare hands, his ‘friend’ steps into the shadows(specifically a 5:18) and starts beating up the defenseless Jaron. While usually a friend should help you out when in need, Jaron’s spider ‘friend’ symbolizes the sad truth on how most friends can(and usually will) beat you down in your times of need, whether it be when you mine a chunk with your fists or when you need 5 dollars to buy milk tea. anyways I will not elaborate on how jaron is lonely in this world, its prettry obvious because hes making friends with a dam spider pretty sussy jaron O.o

I enjoy that you don't yell or condescend, it's just a chill time. I also really like that you go out of your way to build cool stuff, rather than focusing on pure efficiency. Like, this world has character to it. From practical/more traditional builds, to the lighting altar, these things are not technically required to complete the challenge or make progress in it, but they're there because they're fun and interesting. this is so incredible, seeing how you can make this such beautiful world out of starting with 1 block!

"spider my friend while mining chunk, then attacked."
Within the extract, "I Spent 100 Days on 3 Layers of DIRT", poet, Yeah Jaron evokes emotions of surprise and betrayal within the piece. In conclusion, poet, Yeah Jaron has been able to create not only suspense, but betrayal due to the description of hardships within the extract, " I Spent 100 Days on 3 Layers of DIRT."

(unless you consider switching versions cheating
)

“Spider my friend while mining chunk, then attacked”(5:20)
In this short poem “Spider my friend,” upcoming hemingway and popular minecraft youtuber Yeah Jaron utilizes symbolism with his spider friend who later attacks him, revealing how you should not trust everyone you meet, while also illuminating the loneliness in his world.
