Why is a CVT in this particular vehicle a no-go? Have you driven it? Is this something a "car enthusiast" just says out of hand to project their "car enthusiast" credentials? It's such a banal and regurgitated opinion.
I’ve driven the new QX50 a bunch and I can say, Infiniti’s CVT sounds super weird, but it makes up for it with an insane torque curve. It pulls extremely hard all the up to very illegal speeds. I have witnessed a QX50 gap a newer, tuned WRX going from a dig to 100+mph.
@@LocoMan123 i mean its a Japanese brand. The old school stuff is there because of it and it still works well, but they still need to improve the resolution
If only Nissan/Infiniti could pair these beautiful designs with more powerful engines, and throw out the CVTs! It drives me crazy when I see a gorgeous FX-50 with a V8 on the road, knowing Nissan had struck gold but then went backwards. 🤯
@@cupcake0190 Agreed! And why they keep a CVT on the legendary Maxima name plate! I’ve always loved Nissan, but no way would I take any of their crossovers over what Genesis is doing. Come on Nissan, get your crap together! 🤣
For some time now, I’ve thought Infiniti had excellent exterior designs with an elegance befitting a luxury brand, but their interiors were seriously lagging behind the times in terms of looks and just felt like a Nissan with more beige and wood. Glad to see Infiniti injecting some real style into their cabins now and I’m keen to see where they go from here.
i know right? most car reviews (although very descriptive and in depth) could use some better camera work. like, dont ge tme wrong they are great but i wouldnt be suprised if doug demuro was recording on an iphone 6S
Guys your review is perfect…as usual…..but when I listen the awful CVT transmission sound at the beginning …I immediately stopped caring how beautiful or good this car is….Infiniti is ruined this new model with a crappy gearbox…..
I've always loved the FX line, and still rock an '08 FX35. It still looks good in my opinion for a car that old, not to mention the advanced features that were not common back in those days like Lane Keep Warning
From a diagonal angle the rear actually reminds me of a Kia XCeed, which in my opinion isn't a bad thing at all. Of course, you guys don't have it over there in Canada.
My mom got hers early and she can’t get enough of this little suv😭 it’s actually really preppy but the revs are high when merging on the freeway, the audio system is GREAT and it’s an overall stylish, affordable and practical suv. Infiniti (except for the interior) really nailed this vehicle.
It's really nice. I have owned 5 Infiniti from 2013 G37, 2015 Q50 Red Sport, 2017 Q60 Red Sport, 2020 QX50 and now the 2021 QX50 with Appearance package. I'm not a big fan of CVT and the fake simulated gear. The ride is so comfortable and I think the CVT on the 2021 has improved in which sometimes I don't noticed it's a CVT. I think Infiniti updated the software. As a family man, I like what Infiniti is doing. And despite the chip shortage, 2021 QX50 can be lease for under $420 including tax in Los Angeles county. Bang for the buck.
The second driver is rating this vehicle as a race car. People that are buying these vehicle will not be checking none of those things. The first gentleman gave a proper review.
If Infiniti fixes or adds these: Infotainment Transmission Panoramic moonroof Instrument Cluster Ambient interior lighting 3.0t model This would be one of the greatest SUVs on the market.
great video as always but please bring back the box test because it was one of the best things i have seen on car reviews that really shows how much you can fit in your car and yeah happy new year!
This is a nice looking SUV. I have owned 5 Infiniti from 2013 G37, 2015 Q50 Red Sport, 2017 Q60 Red Sport, 2020 QX50 and now the 2021 QX50 with Appearance package. I think Infiniti updated the software. As a family man, I like what Infiniti is doing. And despite the chip shortage, 2021 QX50 can be lease for under $420 including tax in Los Angeles county. Bang for the buck. QX55 is expensive to lease since it's new and hardly had incentives and dealers not discounting it.
Well, I love the looks; that swoop back has always been a favorite look . . . the rear, other that the awesome tail lights, looks a little high-assed and funky hmmmmmm. The engine looks decent, good even, but the CVT sucks the life and enjoyment out of it.
good to see you guys get to the infinities they're really great cars and some of my favorites would like to see a few more in the future from you guys you do an awesome job!
Nice review guys. Still can't believe they stuffed a CVT into their luxury models. The engine tech sound cool but I wonder about reliability over time since it's so complicated. Maybe they need to spend more time developing a DCT instead. Otherwise, Nissan as a brand is on a roll.
You should also keep in mind that Infiniti used to be known for their driving dynamics. The outgoing QX50, which was just a renamed EX37, was essentially a G37 wagon. It drove as good as it sounded on paper, maybe more. The QX50/55 completely walked away from that, and what’s left? Sure itit looks good, but the interior just isn’t that impressive, the powertrain is unrefined, and the driving experience is lackluster.
I kept on getting ads from Infiniti about this qx55 and god was I annoyed, finally decided to check the price and how the car is and god am I impressed. I love this car!!
Solid review. Glad to see the support of the 2 screen setup, granted the finishes SHOULD be the same but having the map/phone integration in the top screen and full HVAC/stereo/settings in the bottom screen is super helpful. Its what I do not like about the new Nissan infotainment in my 22 Pathfinder, but still absolutely love in my old 17 Q50RS400 (to bad that model didnt have Android Auto/Apple CarPlay), but the fact that I can have any map up and open full time is good. Happy New Years guys and Happy Birthday Yuri!
Happy New Year guys. The 3 deal breakers that ruin it for me: 1. The transmission; 2 The crappy infotainment system; 3. The mirrors aren't power folding.
The perfect first luxury SUV for folks that haven't met the true leaders in this segment. Infiniti in the US is known for killer leasing deals, which I would say is the primary reason for their popularity.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Infiniti????!!!! Why y'all made this decent looking SUV only to shove a CVT in it!!!???? Solid review guys!!! Happy New Year to you and your families!!!
They have always made cool cars that people love but that cvt generation is what really took them out besides taking 10 years to update models. Now they are coming back slowly.
I'm an Infiniti Fan but they need to go back to the G37 Era as a Sport Luxury Brand. This SUV needs 300HP and an 8 Speed Transmission. Enough already with the CVT.
The only downside to this vehicle, as I’m sure is mentioned in every other comment, is the CVT. Add the ZF 9 speed and it’ll be way better. The ZF 9 speed does have its issues but still worlds better than the CVT.
Infiniti makes good looking cars. I really like their aesthetic especially how their headlights look and front grill. It’s a shame their infotainment among most of their cars still run an outdated setup. Where is the nicer LCD speedometer options? I liked their back window kink it used to have though. Their transmission should be using the 9 speed at all times.
So frustrating they put a CVT in here. I love Acura, but I probably would've stayed with Infiniti when I traded in my Q50 if the QX55 had a normal transmission. 8 or 10 speed, anything but CVT. I wanted a cuv coupe but I'm not much of German fan and so far Infiniti is the only Japanese cuv coupe.
Very nice design. Infiniti gave it a go in the UK but it didn't work out. Rare to see now. However an Infiniti did win the British Touring Car Championship this year. Car has been very successful
Have had 3 Infinitis recently including my current 2013 FX37. Just can’t see upgrading to this. The nav screen still looks like it came out of my old G35x 15 years ago. Would love an engine upgrade option in future releases.
What Yuri referred to as the SQ5 was actually a Q5 Sportback. This should have been a traditional automatic, and it would have been so much sweeter paired with the VC-TURBO. Not to mention a Red Sport mid-performance model. At least they're realizing their CVT mistake. Expect major changes (interior and transmission) for the mid-cycle 2023/4 QX50 and subsequently the QX55.
@@jonlosito2004 my ownership experience has proved ya wrong! And I hammer this motherfucker! Race it against anything i can I off-road it I do 300 mile trips twice a week for work, and so much more. Stick to the manuals oil change intervals and it’s a god damn beauty!
I think they nailed the design, love it. But the Powertrain 🤮 Infiniti is a big no-no still. The car that everyone buys used for half the price. Atleast 60-70% of the infinitis i see on the road in Toronto are still the old G35/G37 Coupes. Hoonigan car of the century 😂. 64,000$ CAD luxury suv id just get the Mercedes GLC (If i wanted a car that depreciates faster than i can pay it off)

Endless reviews of this SUV/engine combo have proven it's basically a scam since there is no 'as promised' jump in fuel economy versus the competitors. So the engineers worked 30 years on something that marketing could have done in a day.
correct me if im wrong, is that light control switch ( on the dash) is it not the same as in a Mercedes?? because it looks very familiar to the gas class light control switch/
Hi guys - love the reviews. Would love a quick bit by the two of you on cars evaluated purely for comfort; seats primary. Most of us mortals just sit in the things and go A to B in a mobile chair. So - what cars, under $70K (5/E and below, essentially), have the absolute best seats??
I'm pretty sure both Toyota and Mazda had variable compression ratio engines out the last couple years. I know the new 2 liter in the Corolla can vary up to 13:1 compression.
Neither do. You may be thinking of Mazda's Skyactiv-X engine with their SPCCI technology, and Toyota's dual fuel injection system and/or dual VVT in that engine. Hyundai, though, uses a new CVVD system, which they claim gains a similar benefit without the piston complexity.
I got offered QX55 by local dealer with huge discount but CVT seems like so bad. Why put CVT on luxury cars??? I was interested buying it but after realizing that it has CVT I gave up.
Not into the front end, it looks plain. Infinity played it very safe with the design, the back looks sensational though. Engine sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Another crowd pleaser I believe. Happy New Year Guys and all the best for next year x
So an inexpensive, Japanese AMG A series? It’s nice though. More importantly, I always enjoy your reviews guys. Happy New Year to you and your family also.
They should have just kept the QX70, which was among the sexiest of all SUVs (and a truly original car for its time). I have seen some on 21" wheels, and it still looks beautiful. Infiniti is in dead last when it comes to luxury cars - Genesis ate its lunch, and they were never on the same level as Lexus/Audi/Acura.

This car would be great with a modern interior and an automatic transmission. CVTs in luxury cars is a no go and the interior looks 10 years old.
That's why they came out with the new QX60. The QX55 is the last version.
This is actually based on the OX50, which is already old compared to the OX60. I'm sure Infiniti will update this soon, they'll have to.
