what a great and somewhat heartfelt video, i think why ankylosaurs are so recognizeable and are now easier to imagine and like is because the recent discoveries, they bring us closer to the times long gone with for me one of the cutest but also toughest dinos. ofc modern media has done its thing to push that further but its only a small fraction compared to a video of a nerdy guy gushing over giant beasts from the past.. thank you
Sorry for being a bit nitpicky, but this one jumped out at me: Bird vocalisation is produced by a syrinx, not by a larynx. As far as I am aware, these two structures (d)evolved completely independently of each other. This means that bird-like sounds in ankylosaurs are definitely the result of convergent evolution rather than an ancestral feature of both avian and non-avian dinosaurs. Since the oldest clear evidence of a syrinx is from the very tail-end of the cretaceous, you could even go as far as to say that birds are making ankylosaur-like sounds, not the other way around. Still though, great video and keep up the good work! :)
So happy your channel was recommended. I love anything prehistoric and reading articles. But hearing it in a presentation form makes it so much easier and engaging to consume. Don't get me wrong, reading an article or a complete research is interesting. It definitely takes a lot of time. Thank you for your work.
Honestly this video felt too short for a video titled: “Everything you need to know about Ankylosaurs”. You could easily fill an hour, more than an hour even, just covering everything from the history of their discovery, to names of important Ankylosaur researchers and their contributions both past and present; their phylogeny, important specimens and key species and I would absolutely watch that, or at least have it playing in the background while I game or do chores.
@@robcanisto8635 oh an forty minute to hour long video would still be the “distilled” version. If it was everything you “can” know then it would probably take months of research and end up spanning multiple videos each being hours long and he STILL probably wouldn’t cover everything there is to know. I’m not asking for anything like that. Just a distilled version with a bit more *meat* on it.
Enjoyed your recent video on Ankylosaurs. Truly they remind me of a Tank. With incredible amour and the different tail clubs on various Ankylosaurs. The fact they were rather vocal us so interesting. 💪🏻🙏🏻✨
Ankylosaurs are my favourite, partly because I don't think they get enough love, and partly because their shape makes them the most huggable plush toys of any dinosaur. Borealopelta is my fave of faves. I met her in person once and she is magnificent.
@Bobisdumb279 You’re thinking of Liaoningosaurus. It’s currently under heavy debate on wether it’s a juvenile or adult, wether it’s semi-aquatic or not, & wether or not it are fish / meat.
Yes they had teeth! They're kind of shaped like the head of a sphere( the weapon) the root of the tooth was more long and stem like and the actual tooth being like the head of a sphere with little ridges on it!!
people say the Ankylosaurs tail club wasn't for defending itself but rather for mating is this true and if so how did it survive on its own without being able to defend itself?
I have no feeling for how long an american “foot” is. Maybe add the length of the small Ankylosaurus in cm or m in spoken text or in letters on screen? I do know a foot is 10 or 12 inch, and an inch is 2.54 cm, but doing that calculation in my head kinda distracts from the video. And it seems kinda long for a foot.
Armadillo armor is composed of a pavement of small amorphous osteoderms arranged in hemi-circular rings and domes and coated with an outer layer of keratinous scales or “scutes” for additional protection.
Bro you need to some longer format videos i cant get enough
Noted ;)
I absolutely love ankylosaurs. Especially pinacosaurus
Poor guy. Ankylosaurs will never return your love.
They are stone cold lovers.
Bro i laughed for two minutes because of this joke@craigkdillon

I didn't know about the vocalization....very cool! Good video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Gods I love a big tanky boy. Not my favorite dinos (you can tear my pachycephalosaurs from my cold dead hands) but I love ankylosaurs so much
This was a fun video. You also looked really handsome. That shirt's a good color on you. ☺
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the content and I'll bear the colour in mind ;)

Looking forward to a deep dive into the Ceratopsians, a broad overview that is sadly lacking on youtube
I'm working on it as we speak :)

"need" to know, not "can" know. it's distilled lol
Very much so.

If I run into an Ankylosaur in the street, I'm blaming you for talking it up😂👍🏼 thanks to the video
Ankylosaurs, my favorite!
why is there an arroww pointing near its cloaca saying carnivore? i now the meat goes in the cloaca, but the cloaca doesnt *eat* it
How do you know, You’ve never seen one.

Maip macrothorax megaraptors please 🥺❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Since i've heard about the larhynx of pinacosaurus i always imagine an ankylosaurid singing😂
Megaraptors can pronate down words like humans
this may be very stupid but did any of them have teeth? i see beaks in the reconstructions but no teeth

It's said that the club actually has many uses!
nice
Ankylosaurus was pumpkin orange, whereas Borealopelta was kiwi green; and Zuul was light grey.

Jakapil jakapil jakapil!
How did they do it with all that protection? Must never get pregnant
If tortoises can manage it then I’m sure they could just fine.
they were deffo not Catholics lmaoooo
Not to spoil anything, but I'll be getting down and dirty with that information in a video soon....
I believe the armor of armadillos are NOT osteoderms,
I believe osteoderms are bony.
Armadillo armor is made from chitin, or hair.
Armadillo armor is composed of a pavement of small amorphous osteoderms arranged in hemi-circular rings and domes and coated with an outer layer of keratinous scales or “scutes” for additional protection.
Ankylosaurus maxes out at 4.5 tons, not 8.
Its okay t be excited about dinosaurs. You sound like a school kid who has to do a project in front of a class.
