The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

She never sings: she just breathes and exhales music. The greatest. Ever.
She died 25 years ago and she is still the First Lady of Song. In my opinion, the greatest non-operatic voice ever. 👏
Seen her four times live, one with Count Basie, two with Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass, one with her own Trio. The sound in these videos does her not any judgement. She filled the hall with her voice even she was aging. The voice was not more as in the 50s and 60s, but as a pro she knew how to make the best out of what she got. Plus, the high tones were still crispy clear.
@agamemnonpad. ❤ Man, am I jealous!
@user_le etc.- I personally would rank Sarah Vaughan‘s voice even… Well… Maybe even a tiny bit higher
?( so bioiiig
So lush, The Divine Sssy’s huge, glorious voice!-
She could really style it, too, huh?/
… Glorious Ella is right right right right right up there, though - That’s for sure!. ❤❤❤❤ Lady RLLA !!!
Got to see Ella live in 1991. She was still swinging and in my 61 years on this earth still the best concert I've ever been to.
Saw her a few times, one time with Count Basie, which was extraordinary. Also the teaming with Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, NHOP and Ed Durham, respectably Louis Bellson were memorable. We are very lucky to have been living at the right time to have seen all the stars of the golden generation.
Ella will always be the greatest
Gifted, classy and so talented. Go, Miss Ella! 🥰🤗
I'm glad I was able to hear her when she was still alive...a favorite for sure
Incredible - so fast- where does she get air to breathe?
Too fast.
She's not singing: she's just breathing and all we hear is the greatest music ever.
This is greatness! Accept no substitutes!
Look kids no auto tune. A classic!
One Word : Wonderful!
Yes, there truly was only one Ella.
Cool title and hope for many Tomorrow s A Heaven on Earth for All Natural the good ness 👍 and Love of God is All in his beautiful Heaven ly hands God bless every one Amen.
Sooo good.
Next Sunday is May 16. I suggest for your 8 pm Sunday premiere Petula Clark from May 16, 1965. As I've noted in comments here before, I had to miss this show because a thunderstorm came through just as the show was starting. My mother turned the TV off, as she or my father always did during storms.
💙 Ella
Great singer!
She ROCKED THAT SONG !!
I've never been a fan of Ella's and I can be honest with you this is the first song I've ever enjoyed her singing. And that's because I have always loved the song I think but she does this beautifully.
Written by Steve Allen!
There is something wrong with you.
Please upload Bobbie Gentry's November 1st 1970 performance of "Your Number One Fan" - really keen to see that 😀
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Would not argue with Der Bingle on this count.
Steve Allen wrote the song
yea...the only thing he ever wrote was worth anything....
@@jadezee6316and it's worth more than you and I combined.
Yes, but what is a "Charlotte Russe"?
A kind of dessert
@@ryanc4761 My google showed a clothing store, but digging deeper:
“Charlotte Russe. A French dessert (supposedly created by Marie-Antonin Careme) made in mold with ladyfingers and Bavarian cream. . . While this confection is known and made in the United States, a simple version consisting of a square of sponge cake topped with whipped cream (sometimes with chocolate sprinkles) and a maraschino cherry was also called a “charlotte russe”. - Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink, by John F. Mariani, 1999.
She's a girl I use to date in Sheboygan...nice personality, but she drank too much
*****
Der Bingle was right Ed
cannot be improved
@LaVerdadEsMuyCatólica Was that reply really necessary?! I think he meant Ella’s voice and nothing else.
@LaVerdadEsMuyCatólica Newsflash : her hair is a wig!!! So what, it was the 60s and wigs were very fashionable back then 🙄
@LaVerdadEsMuyCatólica first of all what the hell does that have to do with her talent, second, she cannot improve her diet, she is gone. & finally it's the early 1960s & a lot of women, mature women of that period wore that style of wigs. Be respectful of great talent. Peace
@LaVerdadEsMuyCatólica If you haven’t got anything constructive to say then don’t say anything at all ❤️
That was nothin'. Y'all should hear her scat.
Ella needs no superlatives the name says it all...but this was not one of her best
the only thing steve allen ever wrote that was worth anything...of course once Ella sings it...it becomes important, automatic......
Wrong Boobie...Steve was no Gershwin, Sondheim or Ellington, but he actually wrote at least a couple dozen pieces that were more than worth while....this just happens to be his most successful by far.
