  • In this video we finish the repair process for a 2001 Polaris Expedition 425 Speedometer and show some testing at the end as well as share some schematics found online that may help someone with similar issues with theirs. This speedo belongs to a friend and it is interesting how this works. After looking into these, It seems to be a common failure on them for running them with a bad battery or no battery. It seems the voltage charge regulator may cause issues with the internals of the speedo. Another bad deal with no speedo is that the four wheel drive enable comes from this speedo as well to make sure the vehicle is at zero speed before shifting. I share in the first repair video how helpful the site was called KA7OEI's blog in helping me identify the burnt resistor on this board. The site has lots of help on these and I highly suggest checking it out if you are having the same issues. I will go further with this repair and see if we can still get this one back going after 7 components in the first video, we still have more failed components to go. It is a blessing that the Main Microcontroller is not dead. Hope you find this video helpful and thanks for watching!

I gave up on this after watching the first video but, you didn't. Excellent! Maybe an input circuit to keep the unregulated 12 volts at 12 volts so it doesn't happen again.

Hey, thanks for watching both. Wanted to mention that some of these are not as bad as this one ended up being. I don't know at what point you gave up,(or if you are really working on one) but want to mention that after seeing the blog site mentioned in video #1 some may just need the transistor and some commented they had to simply solder theirs back in. Just wanted to share that, thanks for your comment!

@@ThriftyToolShed I gave up on the one you were fixing. I never had to fix one. As a kid, I took everything apart to see how it worked. With UA-cam, I see the inside of more things than I could ever dream of.

I wish I had time, I do get asked this often. I do not have a repair service at this time. I work full time+ in a Industrial job and try to have time to edit videos to post. I try to help by posting what I have learned and sharing that best I can. Best of luck to you with yours!
