The respect between Gatti and Ward is the greatest love story in boxing. Both men so bull headed that they both insisted on a rematch to the most demanding fight of their lives.

Respect to the referee for letting the fight go on, after they talked about stopping the fight after the 9th round. Growing up, I was told "once you start something, finish it".
Damn, Gatti boxed beautifully in that first round. On his toes, creative combinations, spinning off the hook, feinting, moving his head - that's what boxings all about. I love it.
The Duran vs leonard fight is a match I didn't ever think could be matched until watching this fight, everything from the sheer guts from both fighters to the excellent referee it's in a class of its own.
The way they embraced at the end spoke volumes. You can tell they both understood what the other one gave and their respect and admiration for each other was obvious.
Absolutely . Bond grew legendary after all 3 fights . Ended up training with one another, and cornered one another. So crazy and so beautiful this whole thing is. Gives me chills till this day. Ya can hear the sorrow and respect in wards voice when he speaks of Arturo Gatti after Gatti passed away.
Micky Ward had to work a job repairing holes in streets to support himself. The stars were paid to train. Ward drove a modest Ford car. The stars had Porsches, Mercedes, BMW etc. Ward's girlfriend worked at the neighborhood bar. The stars usually dated super models etc. Yet Ward somehow became a star.
Andrew P ward ,note really. But the rematches yes. Ward got the short end most of it went to his managers. He still worked a labor job after he retired until the movie

Gatti's style was really fun to watch man. The way that he would pedal back like he's trying to evade his opponent but then stop, plant his feet, and throw a nasty combo. Just awesome.
But mickey was judt an ordinary boxer he's average what make him your favourite after watching this fight this fight is purely heart for gatti wtf man!
Watch the movie the Fighter and here I am again and again going back in time to one of the Greatest trilogy's of Boxing 🥊 has to offer. Salute real Warrior's Gotti and Ward.
I scored this fight 94-94, but if I HAD to give it to someone, it would be Micky Ward. I really do think the judges scored this fight perfectly. A one round difference over ten rounds shows that they were indeed watching the correct fight.
Was at least two rounds difference, because of the point deduction. Also, one of the judges 'mistakenly' gave a 7/10 instead of 8/10, meaning what should have been a draw was a split decision win.
I remember watching this fight live on hbo boxing after dark. I think it was a Friday night. I didn’t really expect to watch one of the greatest fights and human grit stories ever show. Boxing still has some great fights and moments today, but it more seldom these days than back then. I hope boxing makes a great comeback to its glory days!!!!
Jurij Fedorov This is fucking stupid. Mayweather fought one of the guys in this fight. Go watch Mayweather vs Gatti. Just because he makes lower level fighters look like shit. Doesnt make hi boring. I'd bet 1000 dollars that Mayweather could fight ward and gatti back to back in the same night with an hour rest in between and win both fights with ease.
Antimatter ThreeThou Yeah, he could. But he's not exciting to watch (for me). These guys aren't the best in the world, by any stretch of the imagination. But they give it ALL they got, and it made for an amazing fight.
randolph patterson I started losing hope as I watched Gatti counter Mickie’s punches, set him up, really use all his skills. But Ward is like a slow wave, he keeps on coming till you’re too tired to keep going and give up, though Gatti didn’t l, what fighters. Not even upset about the result if they fought 3 times.
The best fight i have ever seen, hands down, no question! Like it was written for a box office smash or a Rocky movie or something. Iv seen it dozens of times and i still get chocked up and misty eyed watching it. And those body shots, those SOB's take 15 mins or so to recover from and those dudes got up by the 8 count, are u kidding me! Idk how they did it! And then they become the best of friends until Arturo Gatti died. Every fight from that point on, they were side by side. Amazing story.

This never gets old.
I don't even like boxing. I watch this fight probably twice a year.
bigleonard1984 punk
How dont you like boxing after seeing this fight?
@@roeland99s maybe because of this fight
@Nathan Jarrett its an insider from german rap 1st of all
And 2nd of all do u really dont know what the term friend means?
@Nathan Jarrett yea ok nate let it all out my nigga
These guys had more heart between the 2 of them than all of boxing combined today. What a war. To this day still my favorite fight of all time.
Yea this was a good ass fight
Damn, Gatti boxed beautifully in that first round. On his toes, creative combinations, spinning off the hook, feinting, moving his head - that's what boxings all about. I love it.
Wow, this is the greatest fight I’ve ever seen. What a brawl
Yes. It was obvious. Everytime they got close and the fight was stopped, their body language spoke volumes of their mutual respect
They actually became close
Did they get paid well for this fight?
Yeah, I saw the movie as well
Andrew P ward ,note really. But the rematches yes. Ward got the short end most of it went to his managers. He still worked a labor job after he retired until the movie
Most fighters have tough up bringings.
America baby!
best fight I've ever seen I get teary every time I watch this.. Rip gatti 😭
Irish Micky Ward The Heart of a Lion
Not lion, tiger.
lions aint got shit on Ward. Micky could go 10 rounds with a gorilla
@@fatlady57 what?
What a fight . One of the best boxing videos out there .
I love how the ref forgot he was a ref in round 9...for those 3 mins,he was just a person watching from up close
Best fight of the last decade. RIP Gatti.
Swiss Militis Christi LXXII decade? Try ever!
Yes R.I.P. Gatti.. you deserved better than that Brazilian chappy wife .. who paid off the Local police in Btazil.. to get away with murder....
It's a masterpiece, anyone else see themselves watching this every couple of weeks :D
Always!! Gives me so much inspiration if life beats you down , think of gatti and ward , then keep going
22 years later, and this fight STILL lives up. I still get goosebumps watching it.
Both men left a big piece of themselves in the ring that night...Simply amazing
I have watched this whole trilogy at least 10-20 times and I still get goosebumps every single time
Back when boxing wasn't ruled by only defensive judges!
I must, with all due respect, disagree with that premise.
Joshua Kehl dumbass
@@joshuakehl5891 well at least you're polite about it lol
Ward's 16-punch combo at the end of rd. 5, JEEBUF KRIFE.
Jimminy crickets
My uncles and sons, nephew's along with my GRANDFATHER, GRANDMOTHER LOVED WATCHING THESE TWO GIVE THE MONEY WORTH ON HBO BOXING FIGHTS, MUCH LUV FROM TUCSON ARIZONA
One of the best fights I've ever seen.
RIP Arturo Gatti. He had the greatest bodyshots of any fighter I have ever seen.
Hb gerald McClellan
Johnny Tapia's left hook to the body was special especially when he fought Danny Romero
True
Even tyson?
well, at least in this fight, not as good as Micky. Truly though, I love watching Gatti box. Poetry in motion.
One of my all time favorite fights ever!! Two guys that showed heart and passion at it's greatest
For thos who were there to witness this fight live i have to say im still jealous til this day...i watched this fight on tv when i was a kid but this fight was so amazing to watch just the heart that these 2 fighters displayed and such beautiful combinations...this fight will always be one of the best for decades to come
Gatti's style was really fun to watch man. The way that he would pedal back like he's trying to evade his opponent but then stop, plant his feet, and throw a nasty combo. Just awesome.
What a fight !! And so much respect for each other.
RIP Arturo 'Thunder' Gatti
"OMG..Oooh look at that, ooooh my gawd" - Emanuel Steward
The best line ever lol
Man, even though no title was on the line in this bout, it's still one of the best fights in boxing history
This fight is simply the greatest ever
Whenever a great fight happens it’s compared to this
However I don’t think another fight will ever be as great
there is only one per century. im glad we had this in our life time
diego vs castello is better than this.
They were some of the best fight l ever seen.
R.I.P Italian warrior
After see this fight I couldn't believe they fought two more times!! Micky Ward is in my top 5 of all-time...
But mickey was judt an ordinary boxer he's average what make him your favourite after watching this fight this fight is purely heart for gatti wtf man!
@@skisky3 an ordinary boxer made Gatti fight from the heart? You only fight from the heart when you are HURT. Gatti lost btw....
This fight should have millions of views
Well now it has 1.1Million :D
one of the most magical fights in the history of the earth
As a young boxer makes me cry every time
Watch the movie the Fighter and here I am again and again going back in time to one of the Greatest trilogy's of Boxing 🥊 has to offer. Salute real Warrior's Gotti and Ward.
I scored this fight 94-94, but if I HAD to give it to someone, it would be Micky Ward. I really do think the judges scored this fight perfectly. A one round difference over ten rounds shows that they were indeed watching the correct fight.
Agreed
Was at least two rounds difference, because of the point deduction. Also, one of the judges 'mistakenly' gave a 7/10 instead of 8/10, meaning what should have been a draw was a split decision win.
Really gatti would have probably won if it wasn't for the point taken away and then the knockdown
Gatti and Ward respected each other and became friends. R.I.P. Arturo Gatti.
This fight was among the best of any combat sport. if you didn't see the trilogy then you're not a true fight fan
One of the greatest fights of all time 💯💯 Absolutely insane
OMG this was brutal, what a Fight!!!!! heart, chin, guts - these are warriors!!!
These guys made me weep again.😥😫😭 Such a beautiful fight.
I've seen thousands of fights, this will always be my favorite 🤯
Just the best. It gets no better.
God bless these gents. Rip. Great man.
I rather go 15 round with Mayweather than 1 round with one of these batshit crazy guys.
Jurij Fedorov Mayweather wouldn't hit you much. He'd beat you...but he wouldn't hit you much. lol
evilashxero = The meaning of my post.
Antimatter ThreeThou
Yeah, he could. But he's not exciting to watch (for me). These guys aren't the best in the world, by any stretch of the imagination. But they give it ALL they got, and it made for an amazing fight.
Antimatter ThreeThou Let Mayweather fight Aaron Pryor. Pryor would go right through him.
Both of these guys are the definition of WARRIORS! Wow!
What an incredible fight! I am sad about Gatti, RIP and thank you for the fights.
This fight is worth watching over and over. Not to mention the other two fights.
There is so much heart in this fight... it's amazing
Now that was a war.
The Goat of all fights 💪🏼 2 legends with more heart then one should have ❤
This was one of the best fights I've ever seen.
randolph patterson I started losing hope as I watched Gatti counter Mickie’s punches, set him up, really use all his skills. But Ward is like a slow wave, he keeps on coming till you’re too tired to keep going and give up, though Gatti didn’t l, what fighters. Not even upset about the result if they fought 3 times.
What a Fight! They are beautiful to watch, so much strength and heart.
