    That price difference is obviously way too large to ignore - I read that Kia had put their sub £30K EV on hold as it was difficult to make a profit below that figure. They also acknowledged that if sub £30K cars like the MG started to steal their market share, they would be forced to react. Interesting comment and I wonder if MG is being heavily subsidised to achieve this pricing. We have seen their other models jump in price after they have been out for a while so the same could happen to the 4. Grab it while its cheap I guess !

    On the MG4, you can dedicate the steering wheel buttons to be your climate control, and drive modes. It also has voice control. As for the 50kw charging times, that's simply not accurate. I've test driven the MG4, it is quiet on the motorway and handled perfectly.

      It's ridiculous that car journalists don't spend a little time before these reviews to learn these features, which are so important for a balanced review. Quite a lot of content in here seemed to go against most of the reviews I've watched (I've watched many), such as the build quality (not necessarily materials). The handling on the MG4 is also fantastic, I've test driven one, it was like an electirc go-kart. It seems that some of these journalists have an agenda or preconception about a car or the outcome of a review before the test, then go looking for things to support it.

      @@rikkiola agree. With the early reviews, it was clear they had the car for a very limited time. But by now they should have this info. I agree, the MG build quality on the interior seems good - though perhaps this was an indirect reference to oil leaks and bulging under-trays. The MG drive has won rave reviews in every other review I've seen, so I was surprised by this - though I don't know how it compares to the Born, so perhaps it is slightly less good.

    • @TheShmann

      I agree. That's always an indicator for me to see if reviewers looked deep enough into the MG4 to have a strong opinion. Even the wind noise on higher speed is only on some MG4 which need a recalibration of the door window. Then it should be quite as far as I know. The quality of the interior was also really good in the MG4 in my opinion. I didn't think that I sat in a cheap car. I agree that the materials on the lower level are much cheaper than in the cupra born, but that's mostly the case and on the upper level the materials feels really nice in my opinion. In mind t hat the entry price has a difference of 10.000 pounds, that's totally bearable.

      You say it's "not a fair comparison", but that isn't true. It wouldn't a fair comparaison if this guy didn't mention price at all and just compared the two cars. But he DID mention price, and at the end, his conclusion was that even though the Born is a slightly better vehicle, the MG4 is actually the one he'd call the best small electric car because of the incredible value. So, he was fair in his review.

      I made the exact same decision for the exact same reason. NMC only has around 2,000 cycles, whereas LFP is 5,000 or there abouts. There are even safety, thermal and environmental advantages.
      It's a really important consideration and yet I've never seen a single review mention it...
      If you had an ICE where one spec had a Wankel engine and another had a standard then they'd devote half the review to the pros and cons but with battery chemistry nobody has a word to say. Almost as if they're too lazy to do basic research like googling "LFP vs MMC".

When you consider that not everyone can service EVs and fix anything that can go wrong (they are machines after all) it seems crazy to spend 10k more for 4yr less warranty just for a few bits of build quality or smaller compromises.

    Why don't car companies, advertise real world range. They must have accumulated thousands of hours of data, during the development process. They could at least average it out. Wouldn't that be preferable, to what are unrealistic and deceiving figures. Most people buy vehicles, that suit their needs. I am sure, real world range is an important part of the decision-making process. This ambiguity; I am sure, is putting a lot of people off buying a fully electric vehicle. Especially as the real world range, can differ from 30 to 50 less miles from the advertised range. That is completely unacceptable.

    • @lozkko
      @lozkko Рік тому

      And how do you think they would advertise "real range"? They must have a standardized way to measure it, and in Europe that is WLTP. Sure the method could be stricter, so you can look at EPA range (method used in the US, which gives a range substantially lower than WLTP) if the car is sold in the US. But VW cannot just invent a method and unilaterally advertise a car as "real range of XXX". Also, while people focus on range shortfall (which is at the greatest in winter on motorway) I can guarantee you that at low speed and ideal temperature you can exceed the WLTP, by a margin. People don't understand how much range varies as a function of speed, it is much more than in combustion engine cars, that is not an insignificant detail. If you search the website ev-database you will find estimates of "real range". A headline number, plus city, mixed driving and motorway in both summer and winter.

    • @Steve-Cross
      @Steve-Cross Рік тому

      @@lozkko I would rather they underestimated the range in that case. You see on UA-cam, how many people have been caught out on a really cold day and left stranded, because the battery has died a lot sooner than they had anticipated. Like I said in my original post, there is plenty of data for all shapes and sizes of vehicles and batteries. To my type of thinking, deliberately inflating the range of a vehicle, it’s tantamount to fraud. And almost as bad as diesel gate. And we all know what happened to Volkswagen and other car manufacturers, because of that. They just have to keep it honest.

    • @lozkko
      @lozkko Рік тому

      @@Steve-Cross they are not deliberately overstating the range. The WLTP specifies how the test must be conducted. How much driving is done at what speed and what the temperature is. The manufacturers cannot change the WLTP test. Do note that before the WLTP test there was the NEDC test, which was completely unrealistic (definitely overstated, even driving at very low speeds you couldn't achieve the range). Even if you think the test should be more stringent, you need to specify what test conditions you want. For instance, in the UK not very important to drive at say 85mph, as that is illegal, in Germany it would be. Likewise, temperature is more important in some countries than others. At the end of the day, what matters is being able to compare range of say a Renault vs one of a VW and a Kia. To do that you need a standardised test. As I say, you can look at EPA if available, and EV-database provides very good estimates based on different driving conditions.
