The reason Australian football is such a big part of the fabric of this city is because in 1858 Melbourne was only 23 years old when the first ever match was played on the very ground where the MCG now sits. The City and the Game have grown together in the many decades since and have become uniquely and inexorably entwined. Unique because nowhere else in the world has there been such a sport invented in a city so young. Sydney as an example, is a huge Rugby city but it was well over 100 years old before that game started there. Different city, different vibe but it's all good.

You do these types of video really well. Very interesting for both us here in Australia but for people around the world with no understanding of AFL.
You pretty much summed up Aussie culture and life during the weekend. I was born in Perth, but I'm too European to get my head around all of this AFL stuff, still! 🤣However, I do love the laid back attitude to some things in everyday culture, that Australians have.
Also that area around the mcg was a carpark until the early 80s I believe, but that all changed , alot of people catch the train to Richmond station nearby and walk..

1:25 notice how they are STILL going with team logo's on the wing (been doing that since 2021 gf) as opposed to on the 50 metre arc... Classic afl fixing things that not only aren't broken but that make the gf special. I think telstra pays them double for having extra logos on the 50... Great video stef. Nothing beats going to the MCG for the AFL Grand Final been a few times over my 68 years lol Hawks supporter here so have had the great joy with a win and and great sorrow with a loss… oh that first roar at the start of the game unbelievable feeling lol Thanks for the video 👍🏼😁

Never got into football. Never been to a game in over 53 years in Oz. Even soccer in the UK as a small kid never interested me. I prefer planes and cars. Each to their own. Cheers Steff.

Of course, a few people said hello yesterday which was lovely. Always enjoy meeting viewers of my channels.
I know the MCG has capacity, but the Burswood Stadium in Perth beats it for quality and arguably the recent Perth GF was the best yet. It would be better for the game to rotate the GF through Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and in future Brisbane every second year for a less biased/compromised competition.
The reason the GF was so good in Perth was because it was a one hit wonder. They knew they had 1 shot at it and put all their effort in. Melbourne get it every year and still put on a show. Perth was never this hyped when it was on.

Great video, just be mindful though that AFL isn't the sport, it's Australian Football. Auskick is not aimed to get kids into AFL, even though the AFL's marketing would suggest otherwise. Football is a sport that transcends the AFL - it's been around for ~165 years while the term "AFL" only 34 years.
