Love this q&a one! Can’t wait to see you crushing Copenhagen once again. Going through a pretty bad injury myself, this shoutout made my elliptical session today, thanks mate 💪🏼
Your advices are always so helpful to me Ben! Straight to the point and really helped me building up my own training routine. Great video as always and wish u the best!
Thanks for these tips, Ben! I've got to agree 100% about trying at least a half marathon first. DON'T jump straight to a marathon, it is an entirely different beast than a 5/10/21k! My first real race was a marathon and it almost made me quit running! Also in hindsight I didn't know too much about salt depletion/etc, at least I think that's where I went wrong. I got to about 32k and my hamstrings absolutely cramped up, and I could only run/walk every 500m for the rest of the race. I don't think it was "the wall" because I had plenty of energy left over, but from everything I've read since I'm pretty sure it was from lack of salt. Drinking gatorade at every station wasn't enough.
Thanks for the feedback! A great way of training this also is focusing on time on feet for long runs and gradually building these up during a training cycle. I’ve found that really helps condition you for the last 12-15k :)
Despite being 14 years old I did the opposite of this by starting of doing half marathons and marathons and recently switched to 5k/10k and I'm definitely paying the price of increasing my mileage too quick at the start because I have terrible shin splints right now but hopefully gonna come back soon!
Great tips Ben! Except the vitamins 😂 They only offer benefit if you are deficient in a particular micronutrient, which the vast majority of us won’t be if our diet is good. They’re also completely unregulated if they’re available over the counter, so you can’t be sure there’s much of the claimed active ingredient in them anyway. They don’t do any harm, so absolutely crack on if you’re getting them for free, but for us non-influencers they can be super expensive and a waste of money in my opinion.
In Australia, there is a possibility of iodine deficiency. The dairy industry no longer uses iodine in their equipment cleaning process. This was a big source of dietary iodine that has been lost. In this case, a normal healthy person who doesn't eat fish or bread 2-3 times a week would benefit from a vitamin tablet which includes iodine.
Hey Ben. Huge fan. Im not Old enough for the Marathon distance so im going to be cheering. Do you Want me to take som video, for the race vlog? And Will there be a possibilty that i Can get a picture with you? Have a nice day
Hey Ben, was wondering what your run activity screen looks like on your watch ie what metrics you track during a run. My screen is getting a bit cluttered
Do you use compression sleeves on the arms? If you do/have done, what are your toughts? And do you recommend using it on one or both arms (I’ve seen people do both)
I'm also running Cph Marathon. It's my first and in my home city. When you start your tapering do you put in more speed sessions or is it the samme through out?
Add the high intensity intervals back into your training. Long runs don’t need to be as long which then allows you to focus more on the speed development type running. Hills are also great
Regarding your training plan, before you are doing threshold but now younare doing speed or vo2max? Is that right? I am planning alternating vo2max and threshold per week on tuesdays.
Yes Tuesday is more vo2 max focused as my longer marathon workouts focus heavily on threshold reps. I personally like to tick both boxes in my 7 day cycle
Hey Ben …. I have a question what do you do with all your trainers? Even with the mileages you do , you must have far more trainers than you possible can use 😂
why do people always talk about getting into marathon. It is much funnier imo to pr a 5k or 10k or maybe a hm. In addition, I think fewer people would get injured if they focused less on the marathon and more about pr a 5-10k
You’re right. You can also improve ya 5K time as you train for the marathon. At some point most people wanna push themselves to see how far they can go….that’s why most go from 5K to 10K, to half marathon, to the marathon and eventually an ultramarathon o
Its awesome to see your Mother running!!!! Congrats
I was looking for something just like this. Been off of long distance for almost a year so this is helpful. Thanks for sharing, Ben.
This video is literally for me!!! Thanks Ben :) Once I break 15 in the 5k I'll be looking to focus on some marathon training

I feel like a video on your own training principles/self coaching would be a great watch.
Maybe something for down the line yes! I’m a big believer in finding what works for you as an individual

Best of luck with the recovery
Last part was the best the 5km to marathon
I'd love to see the reverse! How does someone go from marathon back to a 5k?
Add some speed work for a few months and enter one- that’s what I do 😂
CPH marathon is a really flat and fast course There's one bridge over the highway at about 30km though. The people are amazing as well.

Come down and do one in New Zealand! 😊
Loving the content Ben! I really like the look of your black Hoka jacket too. What model is it?
exactly what i look for
Another great video Ben, out of interest what set up do you have for editing. i.e. laptop etc?
They actually changed the course last year, so it will be a little bit different from last time you went.
Anything to note?
@@BenIsRunning The start/finish area has been moved to the park where the expo is. Other than that I don't think there'll be any surprises :)

100% that would be really helpful! Landscape video would be best and I’ll be around for a picture I’m sure
Hey Ben, was wondering what your run activity screen looks like on your watch ie what metrics you track during a run. My screen is getting a bit cluttered
I keep mine simple, HR, lap pace, overall distance and time duration
@@BenIsRunning I normally have pace on but might give lap pace a go.
Good to know 👍👌
Love from 🇮🇳
Cool Video
Greatness comes from Chelmsford, Ben is running and Oliver bearman

OMG I know exactly where you are running!
Bro I'm doing your abs videos can you post your leg workout videos
Hi Ben! Any updates on the podcast?
Great to ParkRun with family, especially when followed by coffee & croissant - awesome tradition!!
The best!

What is the difference between your Thursday “Marathon Session” and Sunday Long Run?
Dear Ben, vice versa, what is a key for 42k to 5k runner?
What’s that cute little town you ran through?
hey ben, any tips on transitioning from marathon to 5ks and 10ks?
Add the high intensity intervals back into your training. Long runs don’t need to be as long which then allows you to focus more on the speed development type running. Hills are also great
how to reverse full to 5k???
Add back that speed work 👊🏻
Are you racing Colchester Half Marathon on 17th March?
No but I am racing one in bath
That's a shame. Would have been good to support you on home turf and of course Liam will be there with his camera

This guy weighs 100 pounds haha
What a wierd comment.
@mikemolloy2978 not weird at all. Look at how skinny this guy is lmao. Weak little man
As a 5k runner, I'd rather not
i commented that before the video but it's cool to see you run with your mom and sister
Nothing compares to crossing a marathon finishline
@@BenIsRunning marathon runners are the slowest in the world haha
