My whole life I've used windows laptops but finally decided to switch it up now that the Apple Silicone macbooks have arrived. They claim to have fixed almost every issue that has plagued macs for decades. I detail my experiences with the Macbook air M1 and MacOS sonoma. This includes the good, the bad, and the ugly. This can be considered a partial macbook air review from a windows user.

Swap memory with kill the hard drive faster and the messed up part is the hard drive can't be changed or upgraded. So when the hard drive is dead, the whole laptop dies with it.

@@jimtipton8888 I watched that and he's right about 1 thing.. apple is out to make money and soldering components is a way to prevent u from upgrading ur laptop and reaping it... so when ur Mac ssd dies, u hv little options and most likely will end up buying a new 1. It's business and a monopoly with the prices they charge for storage.
BTW many of the newer Macs hv died in recent yrs due to ssd failure. ua-cam.com/video/MZuv4TIjk-I/v-deo.htmlsi=_1Wp7-oktgaJJR0w

@@shabbakhepra4423 That video is scare porn. Plenty of other reputable UA-camrs say the opposite. Creative Tech and Max Tech have addressed swap and the effect it has on SSD’s and it’s not a big issue. I spent enough time researching it before I made a decision and it wasn’t something I’m going to loose sleep over. Yes Apples a business. Yes it’s about profit. I’ll probably buy a new one before the SSD fails. Yes it sucks you can’t replace the SSD, but you can always boot to an external. Oh, and no it’s not a monopoly, plenty of other laptops by other manufacturers out there. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy Apple. Prices would come down if people stopped buying Macs, but they’re such great machines people keep buying them and Apple gets to charge a premium because it’s all about supply and demand.

This isn't the case with the newer macs. The bios for booting is in the SSDs thus u won't be able to boot from and external.

My base M2 MBA is by far more powerful than my elite book 16gb or my Lenovo. Compare to how this thin machine kills the task my both windows looks like Dinausorus. Good video, but you're missing several points:
I've been a Windows / Linux power user most of my life, switched to a Mac couple months ago, and to be honest I don't miss Windows. here are a couple things Mac outperforms the competition:
    - simplicity
    - ease of use
    - performance
    - stability
    - optimization
    - security
although some apps are not available it depends on what field are you talking about, I'm an electric engineer and there are many professional apps that I have to run on a PC but aside of that there is no point on coming back to Windows.
BTW did you break the Mac Screen??

    Well said.
I also run a lot of emulators, older software, Microsoft Office, and play games too. Apple doesn't care about running older software and wants you to buy a new machine as fast as humanly possible. Microsoft better values keeping things running for a while. Newer software does not always mean better. PC's are industry standard for business computers and if you plan on using your laptop for work, a PC will likely be more on the same page of what you need at work than a Mac.
The most important things I do with my computer are software synths (VST's) for my bands. Windows offers more synths, better compatibility with older ones, and you can get a decent laptop with a modern processor, and far more ram & storage for large collections of sampled sounds on a PC for a much more reasonable price. Also, there is a lot of software I use for various things that simply doesn't exist for Mac, and it won't run through Boot Camp or Parallels either.
General tasks like web surfing and very basic stuff isn't going to make a big difference if you use a PC or a Mac, nor do you need a high end system on either for that. Either can do the job just fine. Ideally, make sure you have 16 gigs of ram for either. Don't believe Apple telling you 8 gigs is the same as 16 on a PC.
Bottom line.....a PC is a better long term investment unless you plan on selling your computer quickly (Mac's do retain value longer). I typically buy used, but not old, laptops and used PC's that are not new, but not very old, are an incredible deal on the 2nd hand market. Decent quality video editing might take more than a run of the mill PC to compete with a Mac. And Mac's are certainly better for battery life, but I'm usually plugged in.
I think people should also be aware as they're shopping, in a UA-cam video titled "Most Popular Operating Systems (Desktop & Laptops) 1978 - 2023", it shows that despite the praises of Apple silicon (M series) Mac sales have been declining for the past two years while the leader, Microsoft Windows, has been gaining in market share. PC's are here to stay. Sorry Apple.

Nothing is better value if you need to reinstall os every now and then because it freezes frequently after few years of use. A better value is something that has a very good resale value like a macbook.
For sure you experience reinstalling windows because one day it decided not to turn on or maybe freezing or slow like hell. When you reinstall you are scrambling up for the license number that you might have misplaced of the windows and the applications that you need to install. Such a pain in the ass. When you havent use it for sometime it just freezes and wont boot up. Windows that that all the time. Poor quality of laptop manufacturer and bad quality materials.
Macos has quirks but it just works. Its fluid, blazing fast and not even comparable in speed when compared to any windows out there. Battery is crazy 18 to 24hrs and windows? Just 2 or 3 hrs in heavy use. 😂

    • @classicarcadeamusementpark4242
      @classicarcadeamusementpark4242 8 місяців тому

@@badongtagalog5737 That hasn't been that much of an issue in decades. I still use Windows XP & 7 regularly on some machines for special needs in addition to Windows 10 & 11. And any kind of computer where your constantly installing things your not familiar with on a PC or Mac could screw something up. With a PC laptop, you can swap out the hard drive if you run into a problem and have a backup all configured just in case as I do. On Apple silicon such as the M series chips, the drives are non-removable. If you have an OS crash, goofed up configuration, or the drive dies your out of luck. Imagine if you forgot to backup your files. On a PC laptop, you just get a USB hard drive adapter and copy over your files to a bootable drive.
The license on most PC's is saved in BIOS. You don't need to go looking for it on most. Stick with major name computers like Dell.
Battery life is generally better on Apple silicon chips, but the trade off is, your much more limited one what software your computer can even run and you'll also pay top dollar if you buy anything above the most basic models with far too little ram and drive space. And no options to upgrade later either. There are Mac programs that don't run on the M chips and many more that aren't optimized for it. With a PC & Windows, your options are much greater as there is far more software for Windows. And a lot of the Windows software I run would not run on a Mac with Boot Camp or Parallels. And for that matter, most of the Mac software could work on a PC too setting one up for a Hackintosh and bootable to switch between Windows or Mac.
Windows PC's have been the industry standard for computers for decades now. As the leader in computers for ages, their dominance is increasing while Mac's are decreasing even with the new advanced Apple silicon. And pretty soon, there will be few reasons to choose a Mac over a PC just as it was that way for ages. Even for video editors.
