Randy is the kind driver you throw him a set of keys and he sets the car lap record after a warm up lap then Randy gets out saying he could have pushed it harder
Man Casey is truly one of a kind, seriously, I think it's his delivery and the chip on his shoulder?...I is there because he.damn.well.earned.it. seriously you'd think he'd of started all these far out ventures at 5 for as many and as thoroughly as he has done them lol plus if you can watch the batmobile one and not die laughing at him ignoring the prostitute while arming up the switches as the turbine sets to idle a life altering 20k rpm......somethings just not right with ya lol. Randy is the icing on the cake for all of us gear/petrol heads.
Same here ...such a fine guy and such great stories well told...Thanks Randy, that plaque from the Hacker brothers was really earned ,what a sportsmanship example.
I met Randy at the track. He was the only guy in a race suit. Walked right up to him and he was warm and welcoming. Genuine, passionate, and really kind guy. Has a true love for racing, and he is damn good behind the wheel!
Such an emotional shift throughout the story. Felt like I was right there next to him in the trailer getting the bad news and found myself muttering a few choice words at my phone. Seeing it so touching to this day...thanks so much for sharing!
I’m 38 and just finished my first season in Enduro with the SECCA aboard a KTM250XC. Started dead last in C30+ and finished 8th in the standings. I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been my life long dream to race.
The ones that downvoted have never raced or been involved in it! Once you have some stake in it helping or driving...you understand. Even if it's the helpers working the wrenches in the background.
I started SCCA autocossing my 16V GTI when Randy was in Solo 1. He was alway a great guy whenever we spoke and always gave me great advice on a professional level. I remember him as a driving instructor and showing me how to set up my own car and drive it personally. Always a stand up person and a reason those days were some of my best.
I started autocrossing with SCCA in 1984. There were two guys, Randy Pobst and Jeff Altenburg that were always fast at divisional and national events. They both did ok later on.
I'm thinking had it not been the race sponsor's son that went into the tire wall , Randy mighta prolly won that race outright that day.... Randy's a legit badass in a race car!
I always thought Randy was a dude, but watching this vid makes me admire him even more !! Magic and unexpected stuff Randy, just confirms you are one of the nicest blokes in racing !! Cheers
i love hearing randy's stories because they're always extremely inspiring as someone who is trying to get into racing and more importantly wheel to wheel professional racing
What a great guy. I always enjoy seeing his track commentary for Motor Trend on cars they are testing. It would be a blast to be a passenger with him on a track.
I was at that Mid-Ohio race. Paired with IMSA, I think? Fun that at both the Keyhole and Carousel you guys would be nose-to-tail 10 deep, all with the right-rear tire in the air.
When my competitors gave us that Real Racer Award, after getting thrown out twice from my first two win attempts, thinking back, I just lost it. The wine of life is sweet and bitter, and gets better with age.
Randy is awesome, and I've seen him in many Lucky Dawg events. I've met him and he's the nicest guy you'd ever want to know. Top that with the fact that he's just good at driving everything. You can put him in a car and he actually has to slow down so he doesn't break out of the time group. He will come into the pits and visit with you and chat about the track and cars.
I really liked this story. I still like Volkswagens.I recently started watching a cup series that they have in the UK. They all run late model bugs but it is alot of fun to watch. It is also appealing to me because a guy can race a variety of tracks on a small budget.
Damn! Been in racing for years (not as this level) but can still relate. All the protests, rules, pre tech and tech after the race. You learn fast not to leave the post tech/impound area after a race...even if you think you didn't win. Strange stuff can happen. Seen for dq'd for various reasons. Folks in racing always trying to get the advantage on their competition. You know on some levels some form of cheating is going on. Basically if your not trying to cheat in some form against the big dogs with more $$$ your not trying. And no night at the race track in complete with out some yelling, name calling, pushing and shoving and occational cops involved in escorting folks off track premises. One quick way to get yourself in trouble is never yell at the track officials or those at the flagstand.
Awesome story. Randy is such a good, likable guy, and such a great driver. Very touching to see him relive great moments like this. Thank you, VinWiki.
I don't think awesome does this story justice (especially for a person like Randy!) but damn, I have to admit...the eyes started to sweat a bit on this one... Lesson: Race Correctly, Stand Strong Correctly & Win Correctly!!!✌🏾💯
I think this might be my favorite VINwiki video. You can feel the emotions through his story. Also it made me remember something cool from my childhood. My dads friend brought over a VW and we had to strip out the entire interior... for this same series. as young kids getting "to work on making it into a racecar" was a very cool thing.
Randy is an idol of mine, though I don’t race. I have always found his genuine disposition to be very inspirational; not drowning in ego, but fueled by sincere love and dedication. Thank you for sharing.
Over 100 professional wins later, it is awesome to get the chance to hear how it all started. Thanks for sharing Randy.
Ed...Randy is AWESOME...thanks for including him on the VINWIKI storytellers...and a real legit racer...been watching him since the late 80s!
Randy is the kind driver you throw him a set of keys and he sets the car lap record after a warm up lap then Randy gets out saying he could have pushed it harder
Randy's a good guy way rather listen to randy's Instead of Casey's just saying

Randy is the only one on the channel better at telling a story than you Ed
I was not emotionally ready to see Randy Pobst start to cry today....
Me neither. Damn I felt it!
Lol, at least with his raspy voice it was hard to tell if he didn’t say he was emotional
Nor was I. I'm still ballin.
Me neither! What a moment in time that was. Whew.
@@randypobstofficial We got to see how much racing meant to you in life in this video. Fantastic story Randy! Love from India
I'm a simple man...I see Randy Pobst on VinWiki, I drop whatever I'm doing, click "like" and watch the video.

Randy Pobst is...a Real Racer!
So glad that Randy is a member of the VINwiki family.
Why is this the most beautiful thing I've seen in years
How do you NOT like Randy Pobst? Just a true gentleman, all around.

Randy Pobst videos are officially my favorite on this channel.
There were actually eight idiots that downvoted this?!
Man, the more Randy Pobst videos I watch, the more I like him.

I have my moments. Thx Dominic 😁
But don’t mess w me in the race car 😡 Thx Dominic 👍

Crewed for my best friend in Late Models for 10 years and yes, racing is probably the most emotional sport. Glad to hear your story Randy.
What a true role model for perseverance and sportsmanship!
Tomorrow is the finale of the second series of Car Trek 2. Who do you think will win?
My vote is on the red pig
Hoovie , for someone who professes to dumbest YT'er he seems to buy the right cars.. odd .. anyway its been a brilliant series, thanks guys!

I'm not sure, but you have the best looking car by far. 👊😎

Randy, you are the real deal. My hat is off to you. May you live long and prosper. 🖖
