Thank you for posting this important historical footage. Divine Joan Sutherland; forgotten Francesco Bianchi - specialized more in opera seria than his contemporaries ( but he also wrote opere buffe) - very early on, 1778., he began working with librettists (Giovanni De Gamerra, Gaetano Sertor and Giuseppe Foppa) who endeavored to replace the old-style opera. The Metastasian-heroic direction recedes in his work compared to the growing preference for bourgeois and pre-Romantic themes. … Bianchi was a successful opera composer. His compositional style bridges the gap to the 19th century, sometimes approaching that of Gioachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini. In addition, Bianchi has created four oratorios, chamber music, masses, motets and a requiem. We can't hear any of his 70's today opera - we can hear Mozart: Dite almeno, in che mancai, KV 479 (Quartet for F. Bianchi: "La villanella rapita"); KV 480.
This is a real example of bel canto - smooth transition from sound to sound, easy sound production, beautiful and rich color of sound, lightness of sound science, which is preserved in technically mobile and sophisticated places of the melodic pattern. I really really like this aria !
