Cardinal John Kroll was the archbishop of Philadelphia at the time. He was a very close friend of Saint John Paul. They had shared their Polish heritage.
The outdoor mass was earlier in this same evening. So many people lined up along the streets of Philadelphia to see him. I caught a glance of him as he drove by.
What a Great Pope he was. And Kard. Krol was a great leader. Both Polish, as am I - and proud of it. I also like Pope Benedict... but why he abdicated the throne of St. Peter? Now we have ... well, let’s pray for this Bishop of Rome

I totally agree,he was well edukated,was very fluent in more than 13 languages,wrote a lot of books,Francis could never hold a candle to John Paul II the Great.
We can never be the same. Let's not compare. Both are different with unique strengths and weaknesses. Let's not talk ill of our shepherds. However, I loved John Paul II the most. There's was something so special about him.

I went to the mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. I was a senior in high school.
