I think summoning people into the boss fight is actually making the boss harder because you actually buff the bosses Health when you have to Cooperators with you
Told this b4 and gonna do again..souls games can be ezpz or hard, its up to you how you gonna make it. Like it said at beginning of Elden ring, step into a dungeon of knowledge. Even that has some greater meaning and one day you'll realize and understand. More is hidden under 'git gud' line and ancient soul gamers knows the best. Let be invaded and learn from the best. You not just fighting.pl w invader you gettin' precious knowledge of the ancients. Dum dums :)
@@redseagaming7832 In this game especially summoning phantoms makes it harder depending on the skill level of the phantom. Having a meatshield is no longer as helpful when that meat shield can die in 10 seconds and leave you with a much beefier boss. Maliketh, for example, much easier solo. Of course I'd you're hiding behind a greatshield and summoning your two exploiting friends with their magic nuke and insta bleed scrub builds and having them best everything for you, then you are indeed circumventing the whole point of the game. I got nothing against summoning, but I do think people who cheese the game are, whays the word, gay, that's it, from what I've seen I'm allowed to say that word now and it be accepted.
when Elden Ring was just released we had one of our friends use everything he could to cheese the game in a few days, then spent the rest of the time belittling the rest of us for just taking our time and going blind. He soon quit after the Sword of Night and Flame got nerfed.
this is why I disagree with the simp that made this video. excellent example. I know kids who cheesed it with bleed dex RoB, bragged how easy it was, then literally went back to fortnite
@@willhouston2680 Yeah. I played this game on release day and it took me over a month till i finally finished.... i just came back to start NG+ finally and decided to go get everything i missed first (all the spells, all the extra spell-slot items, all the mini dungeons i missed) I thought i explored the game thoroughly. I had beaten every big boss and stuff.... but currently i'm 30~ hours into just collecting shit for NG+ and only just now nearing a time where i feel ready to NG+. Can't imagine beating this in a few days. you'd miss... A LOT of content.
I like to brag about one-shotting Radagon using summons, magic and SoNaF then proudly declaring myself an awesome player, just so the FromSoft fanbois have an intracranial hemorrhage.
Great video! My experience was belittled by someone in a Twitch stream this week because of my usage of sprit ashes. ngl, it kinda brought me down initially but I don't care anymore. Using a summon has allowed me more room to experiment with my build and play style which has been so incredibly fun. It's been so nice to have used colossal weapons, fancy incants and weapon arts without the pressure of the constantly worrying about the small openings and difficult combos of the end game bosses.
You know whats ironic and something souls elitists will NEVER mention is that sometimes having summons makes the fight harder because alot of the npcs dont do shit for damage will have agro on the boss and if you try to just mindlessly R1 spam the boss can turn around and hit you in the middle of a combo when he was targetting the summon. And theres other unpredictable agro shenanigans where the boss will agro you even if you arent attacking. And summoning actually increases the bosses health bar. I was fighting the dancing lion and used a summon for a few attempts and I stopped summoning him because i felt it made the fight harder and more complicated.
I love this game and I have used a spirit summons on every boss...I've even cheesed and straight up cheated certain bosses.... If I fight a boss and think to myself I just don't want to do this (it's rare) and there's an easy way out I'll take it. and that shouldn't bother anyone. It's not like I'm going AFK on pvp.
The tools the game gives you to tackle fights is cool, sometimes counter intuitive for an RPG with a core feature being character progression where better armor is the equivalent to wearing cardboard instead of paper in a gun fight. Enemy movement tracking will have NPCs do a fucking 180 spin to hit you and attacks you clearly dodged or jumped over that should not have fucking hit you somehow hit you, or getting combo stunned to death… when it comes to shit like that, beating the boss cheese or not doesn’t feel rewarding, it just feels like you got lucky after a hundred attempts of putting up with janky game coding. It’s supposed to be an RPG, bashing your head against a fucking wall, playing a level one wretch with no summons and just buckler parrying everything into crit spams might be some peoples cup of tea, the option is there so have fun with it. Other options are available and others may find those more appealing, there is no right way to play in an RPG.
WeLl uHm aCtUaLlY: You also have enemy tracking allowing you to do 180s if you change your target lock. Elden ring Hitboxes are amazing. You can also get really strong combo weapons. Really good comment but weird exampels.
There is 1 thing I’m not sure about here. “It’s in the game”. During the first big patch of Elden Ring most of the popular OP stuff died in a heartbeat and Bleed builds became by far the biggest meta with Arcane scaling. Sword of Night and Flame, fire shield bullets, Moonveil stun machine among others. So now I ask myself, Will the Rivers of blood be nerfed next? Will bloodhound step die despite being a tool that makes the BS hitbox attacks of PvP dodgeable? I would love to know what the devs consider cool and deserving of being op and what needs to be nerfed ASAP
"It's in the game" is the stupidest argument I've seen ever lol Throwing dung pies at Capra Demon from outside of boss fog indeed *is* in the game, however whether it actually counts as a boss *fight* is another matter And why is using a normal, not game-breaking mod somehow "not valid" while deleting the boss with a laser is just because "it's in the game bro" lmao
@@Archimedes.5000 the “it’s in the game” argument doesn’t refer to exploits, but the devs intended game mechanics. Yes, you can almost always find exploits that take no skill to beat a game, but the initial nerf-ing happened because it wasn’t part of the devs vision for the game. I’d be shocked to see more aggressive re-balancing now, so I think what you see in the game now is truly “part of it”, and should be used to beat it
@@rubenweber6742 even if you count out glitches, it doesn't really change the argument much. Can you really see a difference between melting a boss in seconds with Death's Poker WA and doing the same thing but by moveswapping Bonewheel into BKGS? I agree that "playing as intended" is important as it usually gives the best experience, however the measure of "intendness" should be "what gives you the fullest experience", not "what is in the game". And deleting the boss instantly does not let you experience the boss much, if at all. That said there are definitely bosses I'd rather not experience... for the 100th time, so yeah imma delete the next Ulcerated Tree Spirit I see
I start having way more fun when I stop giving a shit what anyone else thinks about how I play. THAT is the real brilliance of Elden Ring's design. They made they game they wanted, and tons of people can enjoy it in their own way.
I've played every game solo until I beat it. Then I co-op and even with that I still don't use boss weapons. Sure I collect the weapons, but I tend to stick with my basic upgraded weapon that does fire or lightning damage. These are MY enjoyments of the series as a hole. My trial and error with FromSoftware games started with Otogi, and that along with the King's Field series had no multiplayer. Online multiplayer to this day is still hard for me to deal with because I was born in the late 70's. With that ifyou do it try it on your own first mentality. I gotten someways from that but this belittling other players mentality doesn't help the situation.
Glad you talked about this, I made a video about similarly on my channel. This whole "You can only enjoy souls games the true way" guilt needs to die off. If ya wanna play with everything OP, have fun. If you wanna play to the point where you're crafting the difficulty to where it feels satisfying for you, have fun too. No guilt for either or if you wanna switch, it's a game with so much fun to offer and limiting yourself cause you feel guilty for not playing the hard way...you end up gatekeeping yourself.
My problem isn’t really how they play cuz idc to much tbh how you play (as long as you aren’t doing the invader hiding thing) Mine is how they can be so rude I have had multiples times where I go “man malenia is so tough” and they just reply “she’s really easy I just used my mimic tear summon and stunlocked her tbh she is one of the easiest bosses in the game”(I have had people use mimic tear stunlock as reasoning for her being easy but not said like that) and it’s just so frustrating like play how you want but do not insult other players skill just cuz your way works it’s the same as telling a melee or sorcery player they are invalid it is incredibly rude
As long as you beat the game in any way possible the game itself allows, then you beat the game. If you cheese the hell out of it because the developers programmed the cheese into the game and you use it to win, you beat the game! There is no "tier list"
Gatekeepers are also a big part of hurting the souls games reputation in overselling how difficult They are andin doing so have discouraged so many more people of experiencing these amazing titles, elden ring thankfully has made big strides though in changing that and have givin all levels of skilled players so many more options in playing they're own way at they're own pace
Uh, the "gatekeepers" as yall put them tend to be the ones who talk about how easy the game is and people who think it is hard are just bad at games or unwilling to adapt to a new challenge. Never seen an elitist say "woah bro this game is so ebin hard you should like not play it"
My favorite part of elden ring is playing with my buddie we both wanted to have our first play through be samurai builds and when we are perfectly dodging, focus catching, and landing hits, it feels like we are preforming a play of sorts
Hahaha! I've been playing their games since Dark Souls and one of the things I enjoy doing is to grind a character to max level. I don't use item dupes or any of that stuff, because it takes away from the achievement of grinding for X amount of time. That being said, I absolutely love the summons. Sure, they make fights easier, but that's not bad - it's just me being lazy and wanting to get through the fight more quickly. In some cases, it's faster for me to fight the bosses alone, because their health pool is smaller and they become more predictable. My main goal is to get to my ninth runthrough ASAP to get to max difficulty/rune acquisition values and whatever helps me get there faster, I'm gonna do it. I hope to achieve Platinum along the way, but if not, that's something I can laundry-list later - no rush. Going through the game on max difficulty with every weapon at max upgrade is what I'm planning on, with a character level that can use any sorcery, incantation or weapon that I want at any time, having the perfect solution available for any situation at all times. For me, it isn't about experiencing the TRUE difficulty of the game, because no matter how the Dev's themselves may play, I have my preferred way to play. In my opinion, building a character up to the point where it's unfairly good is the price the world pays for forging a champion. Obliterating enemies that used to kill you super easily is like... it's my favorite thing.
I haven’t played Elden Ring, but I have played through all three Souls games. I love being summoned to help in coop. I love being able to help someone and be on a team. I would never fault someone for using summons, since helping those very same players out is how I get my fun. I agree with your take 100%.
Well said. Time and time again I've said personally that these games give you everything you need to succeed in the area you are currently in. For example the immunizing charm in lake of rot. They put that there to help you traverse the area a little easier. Also if you notice certain areas have specific smithing stones within them. Giving you an indication of whether or not that area is on tier with you. Once you figure out how to use the tools provided these games become incredibly fun and rewarding.
I have a friend who is new to Souls. Friend 1 is not into Souls like me, ER is his first Souls and I'm very glad he enjoys doing coop with me. I didn't care that he easily beat the some bosses while I mald due to the restrictions I set myself, I'm just glad that he's experienced the joy of playing Souls. Meanwhile, Friend 2 came to gatekeep friend 1. "You used summon to beat Malenia?", "You're way too overlevelled for that boss", and so on. Like me, Friend 2 plays Souls but he's gatekeeping too much that it's annoying. For us who loves Soulsborne games, we shouldn't dictate our friends nor anyone how they want to enjoy the game, just be glad that they're finally picking up a genre that they avoided for the longest time because of the rumors of how hard the game is.
Fair point. But let me present a scenario: I played co-op with a friend of mine who spent played a dex faith build but only used Rot breath against every boss, threatening open world enemies, large groups of enemies you name it. He specifically asked me in every boss fight to "go tank" (i was also using dex build btw, couldt really "tank") while he sat back casting rot breath, ice breath, rot breath again. Says to me this game's not that hard, and also that he doesnt like the boss designs. It got to a point where in a fight against a boss where it was either me or the boss(both were 1 swing away from dying) I kept urging him to swing and end the fight, but at that point he had literally forgotten how to press R1 and swing his sword. And btw, he used blood flies spell to cheese Malenia(it stun locks her while also proccing bleed) and asked mockingly people struggle with her? I finished the game with him but I swear I will not be playing with him unless he repeccs into something that isnt brain dead. This dude single handedly ruined this game's boss fights for me. And guess what? His bleed, rot build couldbt do shit againt Radagon/Elden beast, so he suggested I solo that fight(thanks bro). If this video was aimed to call people like me a Gatekeeper, read all this and get back to me.
Honestly, that's a fair point you're bringing up. I feel like there's a difference between utilizing what's at your disposal (things like spells, status effects, spirit summons, and normal summons), but I also think there's a clear difference in a brain dead, lazy play style. I understand everyone has their own way to play and ways to have fun and there's nothing wrong with cheesing a boss you're fighting. What your friend was doing wasn't really fighting the boss, especially the whole stunlock thing for Malenia. Things like that, I feel like, take away from the experience as a whole and I honestly don't see how people could get any enjoyment from that, especially when they can't even be bothered to hit R1 on a boss that's basically dead.
@@damarkusgreen4092 Exactly. Everyone is entitled to play however they want, but there is a fine line between that and adopting a degenerate playstyle just because you can. Pvp is fair game though, do whatever you please lol.
I dont think this video is aimed at yoy since his playstyle affected your enjoyment. However if yoh started telling him his way of playing is wrong and all of that stuff then maybe it is. He enjoys playing that way so it isn't wrong for him yanno. Playing with someone like this would drive me crazy too unless we agreed on a tank, dps combo like that. Ive never done co op on these games since I dont know anyone else that plays them. But for me, seeing everyone go on about how playin a mage isn't really playing the game, and its frustrating.
@@Stickman0660 but at the same time, the guy is arrogant and bragging that the game is too easy. But if you say, okay try to beat it yourself melee only and then call it easy, you get called a toxic gatekeeper.
@@Stickman0660 Can’t really tell others to stop playing the way they want or else I’m part of the Gatekeeping demographic. But intentionally ruining first play with a cheap playstyle is kind of a dick move. I guess some people who have had experiences like mine tend to speak out and are labeled as “gatekeeper “. Anyways it’s no biggie, everyone’s entitled to play however they want.
Honestly, the Mimic Tear is the reason I was able to finally beat Malenia, and after fighting the "right way" for the 40th time, I just didn't care. I finally killed her while using the Mimic Tear and I still felt great while beating her. To be fair she is a 3/10 boss fight because of her bullshit air combo alone, but I was able to progress and have more fun with the game after summoning.
You can use frost bombs to knock her out her spin to win. Better than using mimic cuz mimic wont be a free health pack for her if you dont have the dps I mean.
@@Nutt_lemmings I was using a dual katana blood build. I was able to do 5k+ damage to her with a full combo, so her health drain was never a problem for me. It was mainly her spin to win combo and her other attacks taking 50% my health per hit even with 40 vit and med-heavy armor. She'd go from a 3/10 to an 8/10 or higher if they outright removed her air combo and made her do like 20-30% less damage overall; FromSoftware jumped the shark with Melania where instead of her being a challenge, she's just an unfair, total bullshit boss fight.
@@RegalPixelKing Malenia is a very tough boss, but I dont think her waterfowl dance is as much of a problem as you think it is. if youre able to dodge through it instead of away from it, it leaves her on the opposite side of the room giving you plenty of time to simply just run away. That or bloodhound step is brilliant in that fight, especially if youre running an attack style bleed build. The game has so much variety and options it encourages you to experiment and develop a way that makes the boss fight comfortable for you. After my 150+hrs in the game ive noticed simple tweaks or changes have allowed me to destroy bosses when previously struggling. Take mogh for instance, I was using rivers + hand of malenia with corpse piler as my ash of war. It took me near 20 attempts to realize he is just incredibly resistant to fire damage which is half of your damage on your rivers. All I did was tweak my physick flask to have extra stagger on attacks and swapped my rivers out for an uchigatana with the unsheate skill with the keen affinity for more raw damage. It took me all of 2 tries after adjusting my build to get the boss down and I was able to stun him 3 times that fight when previously I was lucky if I could get even one. Even when your build may seem weak there are so many options that allow you to offset the disadvantges you have in a boss fight. The answers are there, you just have to look for them.
God i love elden ring but no summons no guides would take such an inordinate amount of time. The way this game is set up practically forces you into a meta. If you have never played a souls game, and chose to try to melee without any guides or knowledge, it’d take you 100+ hours minimum. I simply don’t have that amount of time, and I envy those who do
I've played all of the souls games and I can see why community was so strict on following guidelines the bosses were all fair 99% of the time regardless of builds. But elden ring is s different beast I can see why players are trying so hard to be op and cheese the content there are some bosses in this game that are straight up bull shit depending on your build. Sometimes you have to cheese otherwise it's just not fun. I don't feel satisfied when I fight fire giant and elden beast but I felt Hella satisfied overcoming manus and atorious it felt hard but it was fair I didn't feel like the boss pulled a bull shit or was designed to punish me for using a certain build the way elden ring does in dark souls.
This is completely wrong, there has always been bullshit bosses in Souls Series, and I sure as hell don't remember anyone gatekeeping using summons for fighting the same boss reused for the 3rd fucking time. In fact I don't see that in Elden Ring either
My main gripe with the Souls community is if you have an opinion on the difficulty of the boss they act like "pfft that boss is easy just stagger it." Like don't act like you didn't struggle.
From the moment I heard of some of the less than fair stuff some bosses could pull I decided to show no respect to any boss or enemy in the game. I summons when I want, use the most overpowered gear I can get my hands on all while giving absolutely zero ducks! It's been fun so far, rarely felt cheated and when I did I knew I would cheat right back on 'em!😊
This has been the meta since Demon's Souls and really took hold during the Dark Souls years. Gotta tell people they didn't really win. It's the only way to lose in PvP, and the only way to feel better about how you cleared the game. Makes sense.
It’s not really a reflection on themselves, rather trying to get someone to share the feeling of reward. It’s the opposite of gate keeping If u beat the game with summons , great. Just know u skipped the learning curve
@@stevemichael652 Just know that nobody cares. This is coming from someone who's well versed in PvP in every one of these games, and has completed SL1 runs and enjoyed low level invading, fight clubs, etc. It's just a game. Who cares how anyone beats it. It doesn't matter. Not everyone wants to experience the 'learning curve' or figure out exactly how a bosses move set functions. Not everyone cares about parry frames. Some people just want to level Int and nuke the bosses, and that is why Int is in the game.
I'm of the opinion that all is fair outside of exploits. Exploits aren't supposed to be in the game and cheapen the experience to the point of feeling empty
it also annoys me when there is some easy way to get op because if say I'm struggling and really tired i might see some easy option and do it my self because im low on willpower, i don't play the game to have and easy option, i play the game to be forced to play either the hard way or the sl1 bare hand way
That's something I think about every time I go coop. I LOVE coop in soulsgames. I do it a lot, even ore then playing and progressing myself. BUT.... When I do it on some silly build, or even something NOT-top-tier-meta I wonder if Host is disappointed that he summoned Me, or re other cooperators annoied that they have to carry my weight
just have in mind that while that's a possibility, the vast majority of people who actually summon just want help, myself included, and I can't give enough credit about how entertaining is to find one of these silly builds, like a summon with a stress relief aura, right now the summon signals come and go in a blink so most of the time I have to grab it as soon as it spawns, maybe because too many people plays, but If I had time I would totally search for these goofy players first
I stopped playing Elden ring because my friends and everyone were just constantly telling me im leveling the wrong stats and im using the wrong weapon and that i didnt play fairly cause i summoned for a boss and they were telling me the exact route to go its just too much and stressful feeling like i have to do everything perfectly. Its just not fun
I can say I was a casual kind some time ago. Eventhough I play video games since I was 6 - and I'm almost 30 now - the Soulborne series always interested me, so I bought Bloodborne and I loved it but I was so bad at it. About 1-2 years ago I was in a pretty bad time of my life and my stress level was way too high. That's when I bought Dark Souls 3 and I've beaten it like 3-4 times with different builds. I loved that! After a stressful day being able to lost myself in Dark Souls "You died" screen was a breeze of fresh air because of the difficulty of that game. Obviously after that I played through all of the Soulsborne series and now I've beaten Elden Ring, too. It gave me the same feeling that playing Dark Souls 3 for the first time and I loved that. I used some OP weapons or spells but that was part of my journey which is unique for everybody. I don't think that gatekeeping a game makes you a better player it makes you a ickhead for ruining a feeling for somebody else.
I once had someone tell me that if you use anything other than a sword, a shield and estus flask you're not playing the game properly 🤣 Nah screw that loser mentally, I happily used whatever I wanted that I considered fun. If the devs put an item in the game, it's fine to use. As long as you're not cheating or glitching your playthrough is legit IMO.
I've been a firm believer in working smarter not harder with souls games, if you're finding it increasingly difficult then there's always something you can use in the game to work smarter, experiment and find a bosses weakness, I found a good few of the bosses being weak to frostbite so adulas moonblade and icecrag became increasingly more viable, the weird hand spider, a mob struggle with for whatever reason, being incredibly weak to fire, so spells like magma shot, I spell I never touched before became immensely helpful in dispatching them, the godskins are weak to sleep, carrying some sleep items with you or utilitise that Dolores summon, use the game items to your advantage, whether you believe that's cheesing the game is up to you, but in my experience you gotta work smarter not harder, unless it's Orphan of Kos, that boss has a special place in hell and I have no shame in literally glitching it if there is one 😂
Question. Is there any indicator that what you're using is more affe time than normal or do yoy just have to watch the damage numbers and figure it out that way. I havent paid attention using my mage build but I wanna do a run using regular weapons and mixing ashes and the weapon coatings
Personal story: I spent a total of 7 hours on Radahn. Because I was stubborn and refused to summon, and be a VERY low level. I am proud of it, but no way in hell will I ever do that shit again or will I be bragging or saying to my friends "You didn't do it my way" or "Doesn't count do it again" No one should have to go through 7 straight hours of just getting one shot and doing no damage. I'm happy my friends had an easier time and happy they actually love the game.
I've beaten the game mostly solo first time around, but around the second time for NG+, me and a friend decided to cosplay as the Godskin Nobles, Morgott and Mohg, Rennala and Radagon. Sometimes, people enjoy overcoming adversity alone, and others would rather enjoy the thrill of the challenge with friends. Or perhaps you are unable to beat a boss, and use a summon to finally surpass that challenge. But we all know.... Melting a boss in 5 seconds is cheese, and only cheats yourself out of the experience
honestly tho some spirit ashes allow you to not play the game at all. im not saying dont use them just that im unhappy with them being in the game at all
I don't think its gatekeeping what you describe, but only elitism as you said, they are not necessarely the same. Gatekeeping can be a very good thing as we have seen with the easy mode debate and progressives in general who want to change something what fans love into something completely different just so it suits them. In return they gatekeep the original fandom out and alienate them by calling them names until the franchise goes under and then they infest the next popular thing just to destroy it. The fact this whole easy mode debate got politicized so hard speaks for itself. So i say gatekeep harder and ask for better balancing from Fromsoft instead!
I get the gatekeeping, personally. I'm not going to go out of my way to put someone down, but I don't have anything to talk about with people who just spam everything to death as fast as they can (and then they say "it's easy bro"). Playing solo and stomping everything in co-op are basically different video games.
ok serious talk, i actually despise spirit summons , but not because they arent a great option for ppl that want to have fun and use them, i hate them smply because i think adding them to the game gave from soft an excuse to make some of bosses absolutely fucking broken for solo play and expecting you to summon. I didnt want to use the spirits at all on my first playtru but with every bs encounter i got pushed further and further mentaly to use them and as soon as i got to azula i snapped and started spamming the mimic
@@mayonnaise2396 ofc its possible to beat the game woth no summons , but the late game bosses ate simply not fun at all imo , like for example , i love maliketh , i despise the godskin duo, i love godfrey,i despise hourah lux , i love radagon , i despise elden beast . Theres greatness and theres sadness
I did 85% of the bosses solo. I had more fun that way when I beat them. Did use the mimic for Malenia as I consider her naruto 4- combo attack more kin to Sekiro, and the healing, I was not learning anything new from countless deaths. Used mimic, 2 minutes and she was dead. Did I feel a sour taste in my mouth? Sure, it like did not click with me, but the fact I hadnt had to deal with such a bullshit boss was still superior. Then I went for Godfrey and it´s probably my top 5 souls fight ever only to be dissappointed as I´ve never been with the final boss. Radagon was fine mechanically Elden Beast dancing around the HUGE map again and again turned me off completely. Used mimic, 2 minutes and was done with it. Godfrey is my unnofficial final boss, not that ugly Pokemon.
That's exactly how I felt. Tried fighting Malenia solo, even after seeing all her moves and dying to Waterfowl Dance I got her to her second phase, died immediately after dodging her opening attack. After that I used the Black Knife dude because I figured he'd died before I finished her first phase and I'd just solo her second, and that's what happened. I think as long as people actually tried to fight her the best they could and actually managed to beat is an accomplishment enough. But fuck Elden Beast. I've never been a fan of big bosses that just spam magic and run away in huge arenas. It's such a let down, especially after fighting Godfrey.
I remember helping a friend on ds3 just because I knew he would ragequit if i wasn't there for him. He tried the game alone years later and he told me the experience was absolutely different and got to know in his opinion what the souls experience was really like. Elden ring is a different thing as a whole and i do think is fine using every tool available to win the game that's totally fine, my issue is when those people believe they actually have a say in others people's experiences who may be trying to play the game with some sort of challenge a "souls challenge" sort of speak because in all honesty the spirit ashes make of Eden ring a totally different experience specially in regards to boss fights
How is Elden Ring any different lol Just because they reused more bosses than usual and some of them are bullshit doesn't mean there suddenly aren't any bosses worth actually fighting, ER is the same as other Souls games in that regard
@@Archimedes.5000 you can actually get stronger here without having to do main story stuff the game is open world and it allows for open world stuff, also spirit ashes is basically the easy mode
@@ludareinoso381 oh I guess I kinda read that wrong Still I wouldn't that they are that much different, as there were always ways to get OP easily, but yeah in ER it's much easier, to the point you have to pay attention to not become too OP by accident lmao
What annoys me the most is that those kind of people group the guy that looked up the most OP build, rushed Comet Azur, farmed to level 60 and one shotted Godrick with the guy using Glindstone Pebble and weapon buff as the same kind of "failure"
Honestly, I feel elden ring is the most accessible of every DS. Leveling feels less grindy, spirit ashes exist for people who think summoning ruins a boss fight but don't want constant aggro, there's a ton of op weapons and nearly every build type has an op weapon. It's pretty nice.
I hate these talks about difficulty and gatekeeping not because I don't think they're important, but it really shows how this fandom engages so shallowly with these games. I remember DS1 Prepare to die edition getting memed on for marketers seeming ignorance of what supposedly made these games great, but here we are, years later, hoisting difficulty as the be all and end all of these games. To go further, I think MOST people see DS2's spam ganks and gotcha moments as a misunderstanding of difficulty in these games; To paraphrase Miyazaki, difficulty was never the point. And here we are, in the year 2022, and people feel it's of the utmost importance to judge the way someone overcomes these games. Something was definitely lost along the way I think. I loved this video btw. I feel like it's the definitive right take as far as this topic is concerned. Even people looking at newcomers overcoming challenges, like, beating Radahn without summoning any aid and leaving comments like, ''Meh, this was nerfed Radahn.'', it just irks me that this is where this community is at. And Elden Ring's success just brought all this latent baggage out the woodwork. PS: Even looking at the comment section, you of course have people unironically saying ''Gatekeeping is necessary.'' Like, my guy, I dunno what war you think you're waging here, but Miyazaki is gonna make the game he wants regardless of literally anyone's sentiment. All the negativity does, is further sour people from engaging with the community. Why make the fan base look this damn petty?
One of the best parts of these games is becoming op. Like at the start your character is low level and you have unleveled weapons and spells. But by the end you are destroying everything. Elden Ring gives you many tools to make hundreds of different builds that are all unique.
The game is made for people to enjoy, how they enjoy it is their decision. The grind can be grueling and painful, some like it. Some love taking a build and playing the game with that build, usually from build guides. If you manage to finish the game, however you played it and enjoyed it then you and the game makers are winners!
I'm so focused on making the build that I want that IDC about summoning friends to beat a boss I know would take an hour or more to kill on my own. Idk why but I can't summon AI on any bosses the purple gravestone never appears and I do have the bell, I'd rather do that first than use friends just because of how significantly easier it is with a friends or even randoms
You have a point. but the thing is, when someone cheeses a boss you struggle with because you don't want to cheese and use over powered weapons and spells that removes the need of even engaging with the boss (for example hidden tear + comet azure) and THE SAME INDVIDUAL HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TELL ME TO GIT GUD that's where I draw the line and allow myself to harrass this individual for telling me to git gud when he/she never even tried to get good.
In my opinion there's a few too many bosses where you have to drain two whole health bars, pretty much sucking the enjoyment out of the first phase. This is especially true for Radagon, which would be a very enjoyable fight on its own. But since it's only the first phase of arguably one of the most unenjoyable fights in the game it really ruins the fight for me. First time I beat Radagon solo, but after dying to some cheap bullshit in the second phase I pretty much always summoned the Mimic to get past Radagon a bit faster and to save flasks.
It’s weird bc it’s a single player game. You could simply lie about how you beat everything. It is 100% more satisfying to beat the bosses solo imo. With a summons it doesn’t feel “earned” or “satisfying”. Just do what you want
We’re all different. Some people may feel great satisfaction by beating a boss with summons as long as it was still a challenge for them personally. Some people only need underwear and stick, others may need a full on build with summons.
Wanna know my "Easy Mode" ? I go Respec when an area if fucking me up too much, beat the area and then Respec back to my original build or end up with the new build I spec into.
People should be able to choose to use whatever is at their disposal without judgement and play how they like. The only place I draw the line at is the "souls games need an easy mode" argument because it genuinely takes away from the experience of what the souls games convey and the community that fosters from it.
I personally find it irritating when people win using exploits or broken things that shouldn't work that way, it makes people think the game is easier, which in turn makes it more mainstream making afk'ing and ganking and a plethora of other cancerous things more common, its things like weapon art spammers, proper op weapon users (at least the ones that haven't been patched) and of course people that only run away in pvp that just ruin the experience, like honestly use whatever you want just don't use annoying shit that's not supposed to be in the game (especially pvp)
Really nice video on the subject matter. No one should tell someone else how to play a certain game. Everything is by design and even if things are not... some people have the most fun when they break a games systems and overcome challenges that way. However you draw fun and excitement from any game is 100% secondary, the important part is only that you do. Games are made to entertain and thats exactly what should be focused on. If you dont like hard games make it easier for yourself.
Tbh im on the side of play however you want to play. However there are people i cant stand. For instance my sister got into elden ring and as soon as she told me i immediately didn't even want to hear it. My sister isnt the "summon people to play and have fun" type of person. Shes more of a "sit in the corner while her summons play the game for her, then talk shit about how good at the game she is". So. I invaded her over and over ripping her friends apart until they refused to help her anymore. Literally beat the game and didnt even know how to play.... That type of shit pisses me off.
Listening to egotistical players talk about how "you should" beat a souls game isn't gatekeeping. Never let people like this dictate your experience, that's how they win. I beat all previous souls games up to this point playing the "elitest way" and I struggled more than most people. I have neuropathy in both hands causing me severe weakness and lose of reaction speed. I played most of Elden Ring with a rl buddy and we had a blast. Please don't pick up a souls game just because it's trendy and try to force yourself to enjoy it. Souls games aren't for everyone and there is nothing wrong with that.
I am good enough at these games where that are kinda like a normal for me but that is just me though. I know sometimes I will struggle and some may struggle more then me and that is completely fine. I think if some one is willing to try and beat the game and over come the challenge in anyway possible is a wonderful thing. I try to stay humble as much as possible. I didn’t buy someone else’s copy of the game, I have no business telling them how to play it and nor do I care. It is their experience who am I to ruin it for them.
So did I play it wrong or right because I defeated the guy in the desert beach on a horse on my first attempt but I didn't use any summons? I was using a strength build if that makes it more or less valid.
Wait your using things I didn't use in my playthrough because I didn't spend time looking for things and I only fought bosses? Well your not playing the game right. -fromsoftware fan
The issue that causes the most annoyance to me is people saying they “just aren’t good enough” to beat these games. When people say get good they may just being asshats but it originated as advice don’t go in expecting to win, no one does that unless they are using game breaking equipment.
Just thought of a funny parody video idea. Gatekeeping in a drive-thru. "Extra pickles?! You're not eating that burger the way they designed it. Hardcore players don't even have them put pickles on it. Some don't even cook the meat. Get good scrub."
My thoughts exactly. I've seen a lot of videos addressing this "issue" yet have seen virtually none of the gatekeeping people are complaining about. Honestly I find it a lot more annoying than the try hard "git gud" folks talking smack.
Elden Ring is my 2nd Souls game and I only got acquainted with the term "gatekeeping" after playing them. I've played World of Warcraft for more than a decade and of course there's is a little gatekeeping there but nowhere close to what I've seen from the Souls games. When you're facing a final boss from a Mythic raid (They're EXTREMELY hard and some guild groups took more than a THOUSAND tries to beat one or didn't beat it at all) in WoW, no one fucking cares if you're using guides, OP classes or equipment and that sort of thing, the only thing that matters is that you've fucking beat the bastard and the faster you've done it, the better.
Imo the best way to play is no ashes, no summons on non gank fights. I know dealing with the constant agro is much more rewarding period. This isn’t subjective it’s fact. If you are new and want to get the most fulfillment out of Elden Ring that is how you should approach bosses. Whatever your build choice is doesn’t matter imo, I don’t believe picking bleed build for PVE is a bad thing go with whatever helps you win. As long as it’s mano a mano. Of course despite me saying that this way of playing is, in fact, more satisfying. Play the game how you want. If you want to summon or use ashes in every fight that’s okay, if people make fun of you, they can screw themselves. Play how you want
As someone who uses a all-around build, I have allowed myself access to all things, not so I can make it 'easier', but so I can enjoy my playthrough and try beating the game with every weapon in subsequent runs. These gatekeepers even try to tell me that I have to have a build centered around one or two stats, and not all 😂
The only thing I'll gate keep about any darksouls game is if people who literally haven't played past the first area asking for souls and weapons and once they get to level 300 then play the game, it's just so sad like you're ruining it for yourself
Listen, the load times on PS4 Pro are 20 seconds long. You’re spending a LOT of time watching the loading screen when you’re in the early stages of trying to learn a boss’s moves. So yeah, I’m using the dang Summons. If From Soft didn’t “want” people to use Summons, they shouldn’t have included them in the game.
Also the bosses in elden ring are built for summons. The combos are way longer then all the dark souls combos. I have no issue with bosses on ds1, 2, and 3.
All my friends already beat this game and even capped before facing the main bosses and they teased me for struggling but I am not mad I am really having fun, I work 10hr+ days so sometimes I just relax before picking up the controller. But regardless I am having a blast, just exploring the game is keeping hooked and I am ok with that.
Difficulty does not fall under accessibility... Any challenges in the game can be overcome if you take the time to learn, but players don't want to learn, they want FromSoft to make it easier for them by adding a difficulty option, make it easier for yourself and learn to overcome.
I've been playing Elden Ring nonstop since launch. I quit to play Hogwarts Legacy and Street Fighter 6, but I always come to Elden Ring. I don't even play online, no do co-op or PVP. I just make new builds and challenge runs. Over and over, starting from scratch and working my way up.
I beat game two ways - using summons, and without using summons, and I had more fun when I used summons. Also I was more connected to NPCs when they helped me out in boss fights, as it felt like "you help me I help you" situation, instead of feeling like errand boy when doing quests :P
Gatekeeping has always been a real issue in these games. Personally i believe that the purist way to play is no summons, no guides, none of that. Am i going to belittle somebody for playing it differently? No. Cause thats just dumb
honestly the game is still pretty hard at times even with summons, since the game is deliberately balanced around having them be a part of every encounter, especially if you’re just a normal player like myself
I used Summons on my first two play throughs. The muscle memory and patterns in the game have become significantly better on my current play throughs. I’m no longer using summons and challenging myself in different ways. Right now I’m doing a summonless dagger / incantation only run. I would never look down upon anyone for enjoying the game in their own way.
@@red2432 this isnt an moba or csgo my guy, relax. NG+ isnt always about testing yourself, theory crafting new builds and replaying all the boss fights to see if they are viable is incredibly fun. But here you are having a fanny wobble about how if players are improving or not. Play the game how you want and stay in your lane.
@@red2432 When you get to NG+6 and +7 the game is not a cake walk. Your response was just for the sake of being negative and toxic. At no point did I say I was in NG+. In any case I’ve started several summonless builds and have beaten the game still running into NG+ on all of them. So, yes I have gotten significantly better at this game.
I have a certain way that I play FromSoft games but I would have to be supremely arrogant to try and tell someone else that if they don't play like me then they're wrong. Let people play games. Games are for fun! That's why they're called video GAMES, not video works.
This whole thing comes from the fact that humans compare themselves and their achievements to others everywhere, all the time, even subconsciously. So if person "A" chooses the hard way and beats the game with a basic weapon, alone, without summons feels that their victory is worth more than of person "B" who used all the help they could. The results are the same but the journey and effort that was put in the victory was not. The rest depends on said person and how they deal with this fact.
There are people who finish this game on Guitar and dancing pads... What alse do you need to prove that YOU CAN play on what ever you want, how ever you want.
As a long time FROM players. Ya, the community definitely has a lot of this elitist "git gud" BS going on. For any newcomer here's what to do, you call them a try hard and move on. Trust me, those people do not speak for the majority, don't let them ruin a great game for you. Play your way.
Honestly i couldn't care less but most ppl seem to ignore the fact that fromsoft put like 75 or more summons in the game you're doing the game a disservice by not using items that took time & tought to develop like that archer that shoots sleepy arrows or the soljars of fortune with a full pot build :D i just created an op bleed build used mimic and then used the sit emote to watch them fight ^^ never had so much "challenge" in years lol 😂
I've just spent about 20 hours in lake of liurnia and only just approached the legcacy dungeon. Over powered or not I don't care when there is an undergroud ant nest to discover too. Never known a game of this scale before
Just like everything in these kind of games, the easy mode isn't obvious. It's not in a menu, it's in weapons, summons, incantations/sorceries, etc. The game hides the easy path like it hides it's story. The game requires you care enough to dig deeper into it to get what you want out of it.
Can people please stop bragging about how many times they couldn’t do something!? Anyone who says “your playing it wrong” because you didn’t fail enough, probably sucks and has been doing it wrong themselves. And who keeps track of how many times they died fighting a boss? “It took me 120 tries,” You say? Bull**** I say! It took you hours. Maybe you stopped for the night. Trust me; that helps. Say how many play sessions it took instead. That I’ll believe.
The ER main sub is a carebear hugbox dude. So many "waaah, I got invaded, invasions need to be removed!!!!" posts. So many idiots wanking their victim complex shafts because they summoned mimic tear one time. It's awful. Just avoid it altogether.
@@hoked2194 Yea. Darksouls 3 on steam had an all time concurrent player count of 10,000. Elden ring has an all time concurrent player count of just under 1 million players. So yea makes sense as there's 100 times more casuals playing this game than hardcore souls fans that played DS3. Naturally they're gonna be over in the subreddit crying.
God yeah. I'm in a Facebook group and the amount of people who belittle others cause of a weapon they used or what level they are. Like what are you getting out of it? Why are you compensating about? It's ridiculous. The toxicity in elitists have shot up in the short time elden ring has been out and its not even about helping new players now, it's just "heheharhar I beat Malenia with a stick at SL10 and you had to be SL140 to beat her? Get on my skill bruh."
What I love about the Souls games is what you just said: options. The game CAN be easy but that's all up to how the player plays. It can be hard just the same. What I don't really like are those posers trying to force the devs to make their future games have difficulty sliders. That would destroy the entire premise of what makes the Souls games have their FromSoft uniqueness in the first place. And the posers know it. This is the main reason for gatekeeping. The elitists suck too but until they force ONLY super hard difficulty sliders or force every player to play like them, they're just barking at the wind.
Hey folks, come join our Discord server and tell me what I can and can't use in the game ;) - discord.gg/gsq22yP
Use whatever you want man if it's in the game jus have dun5
when Elden Ring was just released we had one of our friends use everything he could to cheese the game in a few days, then spent the rest of the time belittling the rest of us for just taking our time and going blind. He soon quit after the Sword of Night and Flame got nerfed.
this is why I disagree with the simp that made this video. excellent example. I know kids who cheesed it with bleed dex RoB, bragged how easy it was, then literally went back to fortnite
Sadly your friend probably missed out on a lot of content.
@@willhouston2680 Yeah. I played this game on release day and it took me over a month till i finally finished.... i just came back to start NG+ finally and decided to go get everything i missed first (all the spells, all the extra spell-slot items, all the mini dungeons i missed)
I thought i explored the game thoroughly.
Souls vet here. As long as you don't hack or cheat, why should I judge you? The job needs to be done, enjoy yourself. GO.
Who cares about how you play the way the developers intended
What we need to do is gatekeep the fuck out of the people selling items and souls/ruins
if Rivers of Blood players have vbucks money to spare then it is certain they will spend on runes/end game equipment.
What?
I love this game and I have used a spirit summons on every boss...I've even cheesed and straight up cheated certain bosses.... If I fight a boss and think to myself I just don't want to do this (it's rare) and there's an easy way out I'll take it. and that shouldn't bother anyone. It's not like I'm going AFK on pvp.
Let me guess the one where you can make radahn drown?
WeLl uHm aCtUaLlY:
You also have enemy tracking allowing you to do 180s if you change your target lock.
"It's in the game" is the stupidest argument I've seen ever lol
Throwing dung pies at Capra Demon from outside of boss fog indeed *is* in the game, however whether it actually counts as a boss *fight* is another matter
And why is using a normal, not game-breaking mod somehow "not valid" while deleting the boss with a laser is just because "it's in the game bro" lmao

Because you had to earn that Arcane Kamehameha. You have to explore and quest to accquire gear and spells.
There's no wrong way to play imo.
My problem isn’t really how they play cuz idc to much tbh how you play (as long as you aren’t doing the invader hiding thing)
Mine is how they can be so rude I have had multiples times where I go “man malenia is so tough” and they just reply “she’s really easy I just used my mimic tear summon and stunlocked her tbh she is one of the easiest bosses in the game”(I have had people use mimic tear stunlock as reasoning for her being easy but not said like that) and it’s just so frustrating like play how you want but do not insult other players skill just cuz your way works it’s the same as telling a melee or sorcery player they are invalid it is incredibly rude
I don't think I engaged in things like this since I was 12 years old.
You just have to be aggressive with her tbh
I also used the mimic tear on Malenia, even on NG+ that combo is bullshit.
I simply don’t have that amount of time, and I envy those who do
You had me when you said “who gives a shit”. 10/10 video and I would not care if you beat the game level one naked welding a club.
I know what you mean, my first fight against Rennala as a caster was ROUGH, second fight as a STR build "LoL wut."
This is completely wrong, there has always been bullshit bosses in Souls Series, and I sure as hell don't remember anyone gatekeeping using summons for fighting the same boss reused for the 3rd fucking time. In fact I don't see that in Elden Ring either
@@Archimedes.5000 I said 99% there are bad bosses in dark souls but I meant overall as in the vast majority are fair.
It’s the opposite of gate keeping
If u beat the game with summons , great.
@@stevemichael652
Some people prefer number crunching, min maxing and the like, working/playing smarter as opposed to being basic.
I'm of the opinion that all is fair outside of exploits. Exploits aren't supposed to be in the game and cheapen the experience to the point of feeling empty
it also annoys me when there is some easy way to get op because if say I'm struggling and really tired i might see some easy option and do it my self because im low on willpower, i don't play the game to have and easy option, i play the game to be forced to play either the hard way or the sl1 bare hand way
We need more gatekeeping.
is this satire? if not get a fucking life
That's something I think about every time I go coop.
I once had someone tell me that if you use anything other than a sword, a shield and estus flask you're not playing the game properly 🤣
Nah screw that loser mentally, I happily used whatever I wanted that I considered fun.
I'm happy my friends had an easier time and happy they actually love the game.
took me 4 hours no summons i feel your pain
So i say gatekeep harder and ask for better balancing from Fromsoft instead!
finally another reasonable person. thank you. this cúck that made this video is a shill for Fortnite or something
That's why there are so many bullshit AoEs.
@@asdergold1 exactly
I beat the game without spirit summons, mostly, and had o problem with the ‘crazy bosses’. I don’t understand.
@@averagesoul8256 I get that, but they’re hard because they’re hard, not because of spirit summons.
So I assume these Elitist people never use bleed or rot against enemies, because in some cases bleed can be more damaging to bosses than a summon can.
"At the end of the day, we're all souls fan's and who gives a shit"
EPIC!
How is Elden Ring any different lol
Just because they reused more bosses than usual and some of them are bullshit doesn't mean there suddenly aren't any bosses worth actually fighting, ER is the same as other Souls games in that regard
@@Archimedes.5000 you can actually get stronger here without having to do main story stuff the game is open world and it allows for open world stuff, also spirit ashes is basically the easy mode
@@ludareinoso381 oh I guess I kinda read that wrong
Still I wouldn't that they are that much different, as there were always ways to get OP easily, but yeah in ER it's much easier, to the point you have to pay attention to not become too OP by accident lmao
@@Archimedes.5000 it's a lot more accommodating than the other games so yea
The only place I draw the line at is the "souls games need an easy mode" argument because it genuinely takes away from the experience of what the souls games convey and the community that fosters from it.
these elden ring gatekeepers are unemployed basement dwellers
A
I personally find it irritating when people win using exploits or broken things that shouldn't work that way, it makes people think the game is easier, which in turn makes it more mainstream making afk'ing and ganking and a plethora of other cancerous things more common, its things like weapon art spammers, proper op weapon users (at least the ones that haven't been patched) and of course people that only run away in pvp that just ruin the experience, like honestly use whatever you want just don't use annoying shit that's not supposed to be in the game (especially pvp)
We hear a lot about these gatekeepers, but I think its blown out of proportion. We seem to hear more about them than we actually hear from them!🤪
My thoughts exactly. I've seen a lot of videos addressing this "issue" yet have seen virtually none of the gatekeeping people are complaining about. Honestly I find it a lot more annoying than the try hard "git gud" folks talking smack.
The gatekeeping is so bad that we gatekeep ourselves. I feel guilty if I cheese a boss.
Glad to see you makeing videos agen you always word everything so well your videos are always enjoyable
These gatekeepers even try to tell me that I have to have a build centered around one or two stats, and not all 😂
Gatekeeping keeps the really spicy chiken wings not beeing turnet into white man's mildy flauvored wings
Here's the thing though that a ton of people forget about summoning friends. The boss gets more HP based on the number of summons.
Use your mimic tear or cheesy OP magic, but then you can also keep your opinions to yourself about boss and enemy design.
Yeah, I think they cranked the difficulty up bc of the summons too, honestly. Weird decision
If thats new game plus, you're still fooling yourself that youve gotten better. Thats just facts.
@@red2432 this isnt an moba or csgo my guy, relax. NG+ isnt always about testing yourself, theory crafting new builds and replaying all the boss fights to see if they are viable is incredibly fun.
The gatekeeping is strong in the elden ring subreddit
Your first mistake was using reddit
@@Archimedes.5000 This is factually correct.
The ER main sub is a carebear hugbox dude. So many "waaah, I got invaded, invasions need to be removed!!!!" posts. So many idiots wanking their victim complex shafts because they summoned mimic tear one time.
It's awful. Just avoid it altogether.
Nice censor YT lol
