Lengthening Interislander's Aratere Ferry

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2011
- KiwiRail is delighted that Interislander's Cook Strait ferry Aratere has returned home from Singapore, a bigger and better ship.
Aratere had a new 30-metre mid-body installed, along with a new bow, new stern profile, new propellors, and a new interior, as part of a multi-million dollar extension and refurbishment project carried out at the Sembawang shipyards in Singapore.
Went on this ferry twice during 2010 before this happened. First was a rough crossing - Never felt as if the ship was dodgy but my mind has certainly and unfortunately changed. Glad I'll be sailing on the Kaiarahi this time round!
I'm glad to see KiwiRail and Interislander looking to buy two new bigger vessels by 2022. A much needed, beneficial upgrade.
Do you know was ships they will replace?
@@baddi3sslay all of them I think
@@Otiraxo_ no none of them if any it will be kaihari because kaitaki is realitivly new addition to the fleet and arateare got the extention and kaihari is extremly old hand me down ship so is all of them these new ships will be made exactly for the straight crossing.
What a shame our short sighted gov has decided to cancel it, and kick the can down the road for someone else to deal with.
Very cool guys. Love your work
I used to work on that ol' girl - nice to see she got a bit of a makeover =)
Amazing video
They didn't show the bit where they bodged the fitting of the new props, so one would later fall off...
This ship has been a dud since day 1. Why not commission another Arahura?
Bit of a bugger that they've got to send the bloody thing back again now isn't it. Lets hope it's an easy fix.
