Trap Shooting, Skeet Shooting, Sporting Clays, or Helice?
Explore the differences between trap shooting, skeet shooting, sporting clays, and helice. In trap shooting, targets are launched from an oscillating trap, flying away from shooters positioned 16 yards away or further. A round consists of 25 targets, with variations including doubles and handicap events.
Skeet shooting involves targets thrown from a high house and a low house, with shooters moving in a semicircle. A complete round also consists of 25 targets. Different versions, such as British, American, and international skeet, have slight rule variations but similar layouts.
Sporting clays replicate the diverse shots hunters face in the field and have evolved into a unique game. Each course is different, typically involving a 100-bird round across multiple stations. The international version, FITASC, features 25-bird layouts called parcours. Variants like 5-stand and Compak offer diverse targets in a smaller space, often using skeet fields.
Helice, a replacement for live pigeon shooting, uses targets resembling beanie caps with propellers. These targets fly unpredictably, and shooters have two shots to break off the “witness” cap, which must land inside a fence to score as “dead.”

Good advice, as usual. I've shot all the clays disciplines at least a little and Sporting Clays and Super Sporting, IMHO, are by far the most fun and enjoyable.
