Amplify The Sound of Detroit 2023

Emerging Detroit artists auditioned for the chance to win $5,000 cash prize, performance opportunities, engagement with Motown Records Label executives, studio time, mentorship session with industry professionals and more! Out of all the applicants, only ten finalists were selected and spent weeks immersed in mentoring, coaching and artist development to help prepare them for their grand finale performance.
The one and only Doug E. Fresh - rapper, record producer, and beatboxer - hosted our 2023 Amplify: The Sound of Detroit competition on March 15th at the Gem Theatre in Detroit.
The contestants performed Motown classics that were stylized to show off each singer’s musical personality, including swing to rock to gospel-blues. Their song selections were handpicked from Motown’s sprawling catalog. Among them: the Miracles’ “Ooo Baby Baby,” Rare Earth’s “I Just Want to Celebrate,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” and Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie on Reggae Woman.”
Our audience thoroughly enjoyed the performances, and we hope you will as well!
