- Night 2 of 3 at the Post Marked Stamps Fest with Rainer Maria and Aspera Ad Astera playing this show as well. I did my best to clean up the video, as the quality is terrible at times. It's still enjoyable (for me) to watch.
Also, check out the American Football Instrumental Demos video that I posted: • American Football Inst...

"Goodbye and the tears we cried on the autumn nights when we realized, we were falling out of love."
Damn, that got me. This video is wild to see.
I clicked on a random spot somewhere in the video to see if it was stuttering, and I scrolled down to read the comments. Your comment was the first one I read and i read the lyric exactly when he sang it. That was trippy.
I was there. I still have one of the cardboard stars that were hanging from the ceiling.
That's amazing, I'm jealous. I'm still bitter that one of the guys from Ethel Meserve was selling a flyer from that weekend and I got out outbid by this crazy Joan of Arc fan.
Yo dudes, I’ll try to remaster the audio for this concert, lemme know if u dig that type of stuff
Welp, imma do it then ;)
Do it
do itttt
YES YES YES
Do it
Crazy how these kids didn't even know what this band would do and how influencial they would be to emo and math rock music
How do you know that?
@@aethryauhh because they were very small at the time and disbanded shortly after, never having seen success. To them at the time it was just some small project that they left behind for other things. They only got popular after they split.

Thank you for posting this! I'm one of the guys in the bottom right corner. What a great flashback.
Simon King that’s amazing.
I envy you.
You're hot, BTW
Do you still listen to, emo/diy bands
How does it feel to experience 'never meant' for the first time?
Original sadboy
This is a golden internet treasure. Thank you to the person who recorded it and for uploading it.
oh shit, that's me with the glasses on the left taking photos. i wonder if i still have those negatives...
mike metzger that’s awesome!
The date, video quality. and static in the background adds to the midwest feel
The guy looking back at the camera at 23:35 represents about 80% of this band's fanbase (including myself)
True.
they were way ahead of their time
Good Emo, I love all forms of Emo, but there’s something about Midwest Emo, the musicianship.
You can turn it on and do work, write, or just relax after a long day.
I love how they transition the one with the tambourine to the one with the wurlitzer
They’re warming up to the 7s in the beginning. Amazing
The Wikipedia article for the decade of 90s should just link to this video
I am forever in your debt for posting this, thank you so much
Hey, it's my pleasure, Tom. I desperately wanted to win the eBay auction for it so that I could make sure it was posted online for everyone to see. There aren't many artifacts left behind to the public from this band so I'm glad I could help unearth a couple things. Wish the tape was in better shape but it's better than nothing, I suppose.
TakingTheFall71 The tape is in great condition especially for the time! This is absolutely amazing.
@@TakingtheFall71 speaking of artifacts, this tape is filled with them
I love how young Mike’s voice has a little Tim in it, but older Mike’s voice is nicely refined.
sick
they said they were the american football
is this a conspiracy
boobooboobooboobooboo
nice and good
Thanks for the upload
Thank you for this Christmas gift ❤
After listening to the audio only version for so long, I’m in absolute glee to see this
I love this so much holy shit thank you
They played so well
It seems that everything this band is a part of stands the test of time. No less a vhs tape! Thanks for posting man
Thanks so much for this upload .
Holy god. thx so much.
Holy Christ! U are awesome man. Thank you so much for this.
This is a little slice of history that i will always cherish
“Maybe you guys weren’t ready for that one. But your kids are going to love it”
23:18 Never Meant
@1:30 Steve does the thing from the studio outtake clipped into the beginning of Never Meant 😂😂😂
BTW They've just released a new single!!
I was a year and a half around this time. It's crazy.
The way the mashed up "The One With The Tambourine" and "The One With The Wurlitzer" was amazing!
Thanks for sharing!
Old but gold.
Sucks that the footage gets hosed at Emotional. One of my favorite songs off the record too.
Amazing
I cant believe they fucken flex jammed Orion with a trumpet. These kids are going places ;)
Wow. Thank you
wow!
hey they made this on my birthday..back when i was negative 2 years old lol
so you were born in 2001? thats weird because i got into american football as a teenager in about 2010, when i was 16. Is american football popular with the youth of today?
chilldude30 i don’t think it really is, i mean their best/memorable album was before a lot of us were even born. i thankfully came across it last year when it popped up on my recommended and i fell in love ever since. it’s like uncovering a treasure out of sheer luck.
alexa barraza Happy 18th Birthday :)
TakingTheFall i haven’t seen this until now. thank you:)
alexa barraza this album was released a few Kong’s before I was born lol
Type of shit i would have sent out if i had been in charge of the golden disks tbh
This is fucking magical
Wish I was there!
granted I was 1 years old at the time xD
Mike playing Orion by Metallica on bass while Steve is tuning his guitar for For Sure is cool
I thought I was going crazy haha glad someone else noticed it
Also sounds like the drummer was playing it on the trumpet too
nice
you're the fucking man for posting this stuff
♥♥♥♥
Interesting, I always had a MP3 rip of this on my hard drive but never know there was a video version of it. Do you know is there anything more HQ than the mp3 rips?
che swaggata vecio
litted
There's audio of this show you can (maybe not anymore) find online in torrents or something. I wonder if it was ripped from this VHS or if somebody else audio taped it
Sleep Walk Sleep Walk Pretty sure it’s from a different source. There’s a video of it on UA-cam. The cd-r this video was on also came with a cd of that same exact audio. If anyone wants me to post a download for it, I will. It’s much better quality.
TakingTheFall71 post it
@@TakingtheFall71 can you pls post it? we ARE waiting! Cheers

@@TakingtheFall71 DROP IT PLEASE
what about the place where they played?? i dont know but seems like that the fireside bowl make space for a lot indi bands, don caballero played in that place too
The fireside bowl is one of the most historically important music venues in Chicago. It was the home to the emergence of midwest emo in the mid to late 90s hosting: American football, Captn Jazz, mineral, braid, the get up kids ect.
It’s a perfect representation of the DIY aesthetic surrounding midwest indie/alternative/emo.
I know understand when kinsella says that now he is a better singer, BUT in the record he signs perfect, live is kind of a let down but at the same time so young and visceral, I like it anyway
also I hate how he signs now, only like it on OWEN, hate the new american football stuff because of the vocals
don't know if I made me clear haha
Wtf why am I just seeing this now
16:58 evil americ
anfootball be like "let's not pretend everything and anything between you and me was ALWAYS meant"
Wonder what the people who were there thought of it at the time. This video is sick. I was only 2 years old.
Isn't there. another angle of this video from the Fireside or is that a different show?
D Jefferson different show
...let's just forget........
Who tf is the one dislike??
Can't believe they didn't play Honestly?
Jack Pivarnik there was an interview with Steve Lamos saying that they played so few shows that they didn’t even perform some of the songs off the lp till they got back together
Mike's voice sounds soooooooooooooo much better here
Ryan he’s stated in several interviews that he had no intention of being a vocalist for this band, when the songs were presented to him he was like “I gotta hit those notes” now they play about anywhere from a half step down to a full step down because he really didn’t like singing like that
i mean hes also old as shit now so i get it
😭😭😭
no way
Did The One With The Tambourine slowly turn into The One With The Wurlitzer?
Yes
dei fratelli
What camera was used to film this?
Caught in 4K 📸
@@thebruhnetwork 😐
Most likely a Video 8 Sony Handycam from the late 80's - early 90's , I'm aiming towards this as the option because Digital 8 would shoot at a smother fps, and Hi8 would record at a higher quality, It wouldn't be a vhs camera because of the effects during, "But the regrets are killing me", the effects would usually be on these handycams. The bad resolution may be from digitizing the tape.
How much money did you bid for this on ebay?
I don't remember but it wasn't much

Shit i still had a month left till I was borm

distress If only Eric and Dylan listened to American Football. Could’ve prevented the entire tragedy if they had a copy of the EP.
We can laugh about this now right?
@@TakingtheFall71 in some alternate universe they were closely related to the scene and became just as important as AF in it.
Lmao when you were born a day before this performance
Happy birthday
So were you there?
