    Nice choice mate.
You can buy relays at Supercheap or Jaycar. 15 bucks. That will sort your hyperflashing problem.
Don't forget to bypass the side stand switches, clutch switch. Have a look at the sprocket seal retention bracket. (Can be bought from Suzuki)
If you are game you can look into modifying the carb for more pep when snapping the throttle open. Pretty easy going just adjust the accelerator pump.
Don't forget to Loctite tour stator bolts!
Advice from a bloke with a 2006 drz with 35,000km.
    Cheers!

When you have the tank off it’s a good opportunity to run a second spare clutch cable. Cheap insurance. Also an led headlight bulb can save power to run other accessories. I believe the safari tank comes with a petcock because the stock one is prone to failure, like mine did. When I put the lower Seat Concepts seat on I needed to lower the pegs and used David Knight lower wider pegs.

I had one of these a few years back but sold it for a supersport (sadface). Recently got back into dirt and decided on a DR650 and loving it but watching this makes me miss the DRZ soooooo much. It's a true do it all end of days weapon of a bike and anyone who has this bike on their shortlist, buy it!....buy it now! Unless you're at a 450cc pro racer skill level you will never out ride this bike!

Your existing blinkers (bulb) draw more load and the standard blinker relay is expecting to see that load as it sets the flash rate.
Two ways around it....swap out your blinker relay for an LED compatible one (the better method)
Second is to fit load resisters ,one each side to simulate the load of the existing filament lamps, not as good but it works and there are thousands of bikes out there with them.
Rizoma at one time used this method, they still may,Oxford products sell kits but they are just wire wound ceramic coted resistors in a heat shrink sleeve with short wires and bullet connectors....
When going from a 21 watt incandescent turn signal to an LED turn signal, select the 18W / 8.5Ohm resistor
When going from a 10 watt incandescent turn signal to an LED turn signal, select the 8W / 21.5Ohm resistor
Sold as a pair normally and one per side is all thats required.

Nice. Great bikes. Look forward to seeing more. Got an old 2000 drz400 myself. She's very battered and bruised but I love her. Bought from a mate about five years ago. He'd had her from new. He was moving back to the UK and the bike was going to cost way more to get it all legal and road worthy than it was worth. He let me have her for 600€.The best 600€ I've ever spent!! Luckily(for the time being anyway🙄) we don't have obligatory "road worthy" tests for motorcycles here in France. I live in the foothills on the Mediterranean tail end of the Pyrenees and rarely need to use her on proper roads to get up into the hills.
Hope Chappy gets as much joy and pleasure from his as I have from mine. Cheers

Looks the same as mine...which is a 2001 model! Good choice!!
I modded mine a fair bit, one of the essentials is the muffler, that stock is way too restrictive and way too loud when uncorked. The Barrett is fantastic, straight through but not loud. Really let’s it breathe. Stainless steel packing means it doesn’t need repacking. 15/44 is the best gearing, but mine is bored/stroked to 472cc so handles the gearing better.

Quick tip. As a rule of thumb, metric bikes use 10, 13, 17 & 19mm fixings. That's it. You'd be hard pressed to find any other sizes unless somebody has put aftermarket parts on. Those sizes are the only size spanners I carry on the bike for the odd roadside repair.

Easy to do...take off the headlight shroud and it on the left hand side...also y’all should add a kick start...an OEM kit from eBay in the states is about $190 US...pretty easy to do...takes about an hour or three beers 😁

This is a really good project Mark.I have been going around in circles trying to decide which mid adventure bike I'm going to buy around Xmas time when hopefully things open up.I had narrowed it down to the CB500X but they need work therefore money spent to bring up to scratch.Like the KTM390 but too much electronics.Being around 5'9" need to be able to get feet down. This Suzie build has convinced me I can do a bit to it,like pack rack, run the 15/44 for highway etc and get the best of both worlds. Can you fit a centre stand to the Suzie, could live without but prefer the stand, makes puncture repair easier and chain maintenance.

7 pin suzuki led flasher relay will stop the hyperflashing you can find them on ebay for about $20 or $40 at bike shops. they stung you with the covid tax on the price and no cape york kit? surprised he went with the 17l safari instead of the 28l if he's doing the simpson the 28l is only a little bit wider i'm very happy with mine and surprisingly hardly notice it.

If you're changing the seat, could I maybe buy the stock (black?) one off you? Local Vic rider, could pick up.
