- I built a Gray Fox Helmet (Metal Gear Solid) over the course of seven months by combining parametric 3D modeling, SLS rapid prototyping, silicone molds and an AVR microcontroller to drive lights and servos. Continue reading below for details:
Head was scanned with autodesk ReMake
Parts were printed via www.shapeways.com
Microcontrollers and lights are from www.adafruit.com
Resins used include smoothcast 300 and Apoxacast 690 by www.smoothon.com
Silicones used include Moldstar 20T and Rebound 25, also by smoothon.

joseph cadman you can google the file for the helmet to 3d print but you have to figure out the mechanics and programming

I've been lurking around in all of these forums and comment threads trying to get a better idea of all the work that went into your helmet (which is gorgeous, but that's stating the obvious) so I could learn what could be implemented into my own ideas. This video was immensely helpful, even as a bare-bones rundown of the process!

diegator I think it might be best if I gave a short run of my idea first? What I am thinking is making a cyberpunk 'deck' computer casing out of fiberglass/Bond-O. What I hope you could enlighten me to, since I am an amateur to this, is how much I could hope to gain using CAD software if I can find the right sized 3D printer -- if there are ways of designing standard screw holes into it, latching mechanics to have modeled or altered for my needs... the project is relatively ambitious

You should add some lenses to the frontal lobe of the helmet where your eyes should be, maybe find a way for them to recede into the helmet opens, thus keeping it fairly accurate but adding more mystery to your appearance.
