- Eric Church wrote and recorded his new triple album "Heart & Soul" during a monthlong retreat to a North Carolina mountain town. For this installment of the "Rolling Stone Interview: Special Edition," however, the country music protagonist is Zooming in from his writing cabin just west of Nashville. At the time of our conversation, Church was gearing up for the release of "Heart & Soul" - the "Heart" and "Soul" components are available far and wide April 16th and 23rd, respectively; the "&" album only to members of his Church Choir fan club, for now. It's an ambitious project, even for Church, an artist who has made a career of, for the most part, going against the Nashville grain.

Bumped into this guy at a gas station in Banner elk North Carolina while snow skiing with my son when he was recording this record. We were both buying beer(me and Eric not my son) at a gas station.One of my favorite artist, awesome guy!

I just saw Eric this past Saturday night in Greensboro, NC - essentially his "home" town. He really does a great job of bringing us back. Not only with his music, but the stories he tells on stage and the way with which he interacts with the crowd. I agree with his perspective that music unites us. Thank you for this interview.

I think he was actually gracious with the woke bs question. He was simply decent, respectful and didn’t go into overly woke apologetic mode. He was savy in his response and non polarizing. This is a business and he played it well. Those kinda questions are gotcha questions. I think he did well. Tells me all I need to know.

This breaks my heart. I've always seen Eric in a certain positive light and after this interview I see him completely differently. He clearly just caters to his label and says whatever they tell him he needs to say. He's not the patriot I thought he was

Funny, when Church speaks he barely has a southern dialect yet in a song like "Drink in my Hand" it's quite pronounced. Phony bologna!

The album(s) is okay. This was a good interview until it became a woke confessional. Shouldn’t have commented on Morgan Wallen and certainly shouldn’t have mentioned “diversity.” 👎

Hes speaking his mind, thats fine. We arent always going to agree but if we stop talking and listening we will never get anywhere.
Have always loved his music But definitely have lost A LOT of respect for him when I hear him in interviews like this.
