  • ***Please note that this kitten is available as my free giveaway this year. You can enter to win through April 6, 2020 on my Facebook page***
    This is a time lapse (primarily) video of how I made this little kitten. I do have a very detailed tutorial available (Fox) that you can refer to if you need to see the technique more clearly.
    Materials:
    *needle felting foam pad
    *needle felting needles (I used primarily 40T and the clover felting pen as described in the Fox Tutorial. I also used the 36T needle in attaching the head to the body, and the reverse felting needle on the tail)
    *clear plastic safety eyes (these ones happen to be 9mm from Glass Eyes Online)
    *acrylic paint for the back of the eyes (I used Liquitex phthalocyanine blue and gold to achieve an aqua blue color with metallic shimmer. Any acrylic paints should work, and the eye color is up to you)
    *paint brush
    *scissors
    *core wool roving
    *white and black colored wool rovings
    *light pink/peach wool batt -- roving would be OK
    *darker pink and light gray wool optional -- very tiny amounts needed for nose details and brow accents. For tiny detail areas, a fine marker (india ink) in darker pink and light gray would be acceptable instead, and while I have not tried it, some artists use chalk pastels for these details. I believe chalk requires a fixative, and since I am unfamiliar with this technique I cannot give any advice, but I have seen beautiful results, in case you want to experiment with it.
    ***SOME IMPORTANT NOTES:
    The attachment of the ears was unfortunately not filmed! I must not have restarted my camera. The ears are attached the same way as in my fox tutorial, and this step can be seen in PART 3 of that tutorial. • DIY Making A Needle Fe...
    At the end of the video I briefly used the reverse needle (with the pink heart handle) on the kitten's tail to make it fuzzy, but I forgot to mention it.
    Also, I trimmed the wool around the edges of the face with scissors to create the shape of the cheeks.

    Gosh I normally just add the eyes after the head is finished. I cut off the posts and glue them onto flat areas that I felt for them. Usually they have lids and it's strong glue so never had a problem and the head is so much quicker to felt that way! Love your work!

    Hi Krysta! I absolutely ADORE your Kitten!! I was wondering if you recall the Site you purchased the 9mm Glass Safety Eyes? They're the most Realistic Cat Eyes I've seen so far. Did you buy them that way or did you paint them to look the way you wanted them to? I'm new to needle felting & Armature Needle Felting/Stuffed Animals & I'm going to be making a Kitten that's has the Weighted Poly Pellets to make it feel like a real Kitten, but I'm getting slowed down on beginning my project bc of the Eye situation. Any Side Recommendation for Supplies, that also sells the Eyes would be greatly appreciated! Thank you again! & thank you for sharing w/ us how you made such a darling, realistic little fur baby!! 💕

    • @kreationsbykrysta2134
      @kreationsbykrysta2134  3 роки тому +1

      Hi there Erin! Yes, I do paint the eyes at 0:15 with a mix of blue and metallic gold. This makes a sort of teal color, but the metallic in the gold paint is what gives the eyes shimmer. There are many sellers you can purchase eyes from on Etsy. Here is one like the ones I used: www.etsy.com/listing/578544062/9mm-clear-color-round-safety-eyes-with
      You could also use an elliptical cat pupil if you choose: www.etsy.com/listing/958175725/9mm-translucent-clear-iris-black-pupil
      I also have the supplies listed in the video description. Some of my newer videos include lots of links to the products I use too. Have fun!

    • @ColorMeErin
      @ColorMeErin 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Again! I must've looked away during the Eye painting part & that's how I missed that part w/ you Painting them, but I rewatched the Video & seen what you did & found it even more amazing the 2nd time around. I'd really wish I'd found your Video for a chance to Win this Cutie pie, but I'm just happy I found your Channel now.
      I just recently lost my 17yo Black/White Polydactyl, Prince, a Week ago, which has been really harvesting bc my other Cat, Mr. Man (only 3yo & also a Polydactyl) keeps crying looking for him, checking in all his sleeping spots & them eventually curls up into 1 of Prince's favorite Spots (a Priority Mailing Box w/ some fluff in the bottom, Haha!). But it's heart wrenching watching Man look for his Brother, even though we let him see him before we took him to be Cremated... Him mourning his Fur Brother breaks my heart, more than it already is, so I'm determined to figure this out to make a recreation of Prince, but as a Kitten. 😺
      It's still amazing how you figured out the 1 Color would give it that realistic shimmer! I truly appreciate the Links! Bc trying to figure out & use the correct wording in searches to find the Supplies you need, w/out knowing what stuff is called when you're 1st starting out & don't know the correct Terminology yet, can be really frustrating, so your response & Links were beyond helpful. 💓
      I really do appreciate that you took the time to, not only, make such a Detailed Tutorial, but also Listed all of the Supplies & to boot, replied to questions (many Never respond, so I was excited to see that I'd gotten a reply & you really took the time to give me the Info I needed! I'm very grateful!). I'll definitely make sure to Subscribe to your Channel, to help assist me in learning the Ropes of Needle Felting Life-Like Animals, but my focus is going to be Kittens/Cats/Puppies/Dogs! Haha! Thank You so much again!! Please Stay Safe!!! 💙💜

      It is pretty simple, but like any sculpting process, the more you do it, the better your eye will be at capturing the correct proportions and details. But yes, the process itself is not complicated.

    • @kreationsbykrysta2134

      Yes, for older children who are pretty gentle, it could be. In fact, if you use wire armature, they can be fully posable too. I would not recommend it for any young children who might put it in their mouths or be rough.

    • @kreationsbykrysta2134
      @kreationsbykrysta2134  3 роки тому

      Well, there are so many types to choose from, and I have only ever used these foam pads. If you search Etsy.com for needle felting pads, you will see many options. I think they are all fine, some people just prefer certain types. The foam pads last several years, but they do eventually fall apart on the surface, and also wool gets in the foam, so you have to clean it from time to time to keep it tidy and prevent unwanted wool colors from a previous project contaminating your next project (like if I worked on my little green yoda and then this kitten without cleaning the green wool off the pad, it would allow green bits of wool to get into the kitten--not ideal ;)

      This is a shorter video, not a full length tutorial. I have a very detailed cat head tutorial available on my channel if you need more instruction on creating the shape of a cat face. :) ua-cam.com/video/dm7b_ThW6CI/v-deo.html

    Wool? Next, try making them from cattail and bamboo. And even from cotton candy, for obvious reasons.
    Hmm... A pneumatic hammer will speed this up 1000%.

      You know the cat physiology very well. How many cats have you poked with needles?? Poor kitty...... You're a bad person!
