    Fun fact about the uniforms - Alfonso Cuaron really wanted to bring home the fact that the characters are teenagers now, so he told the cast to wear their Hogwarts uniform the same way they’d wear their real-life school uniform. So the cast got to choose how they tied their tie, if they tucked their shirt in or out, if they rolled their sleeves up etc, which I thought was really cool.

    so since the movies don't really go in depth about it, here's some info from the books that they didn't include.. this is just from what i remember tho so apologies if i miss some things lol
    when lupin was a child, an infamous werewolf named fenrir greyback had overheard lupin's father speaking ill about werewolves so as retribution he attacked his son (lupin) which ultimately turned him into a werewolf. because of this, he and his parents became concerned about how he would be able to successfully live a normal life in society and whether or not he'd be able to go to school, so dumbledore arranged a place where lupin could go every month to transform in secret--- the shrieking shack. that's why the whomping willow was planted there, so that no one else would be able to go near the entrance of the tunnel that led to the shrieking shack from the school grounds. that's also how the rumors of the shack being haunted started to arise, cause of lupin's howls and screams.
    lupin, sirius, james, and peter were friends and called themselves "the marauders,"-- they're the creators of the map. when snape is substituting for lupin in that one scene, he asks the students what the difference is between an "animagus" and a werewolf, in which we learn that an animagus is someone who can shapeshift into an animal at will (like sirius and professor mcgonagall) while werewolves have no choice or self awareness in their transformed state. while they were still students, the rest of the maurauders found out that lupin was a werewolf and wanted to find a way to help make his transformations less lonely so they all self trained to become animaguses so that they could keep lupin company during his transformation periods. this also ties into their marauder names:
    moony= lupin
    wormtail= peter (rat)
    padfoot= sirius (dog)
    prongs= james (stag)
    sirius was able to escape azkaban by transforming into a dog and slipping through the bars. the dementors couldn't sense him in his dog form and no one else besides the marauders knew he was an animagus bc they were unregistered animaguses.
    a full fledged patronus usually has some sort of animal form that is personal to the wizard/witch performing the patronus charm, it can either be something reminiscent of their own personality or an animal that is closely associated to some sort of subject of fondness like a family member or anything/one else they hold dear. patronuses can also be changed or shaped according to who you've fallen in love with. harry's patronus is a stag, which is his father's animagus form.

      Thanks so much for that! I was coming to the comments to say the same thing. James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter were the original troublemakers at Hogwarts, kind of precursors to Fred & George. They made the map and got up to all kinds of things when they were in school. I wish they hadn't left the Marauder's storyline out of the movie. I very distinctly remember walking out of the theater after seeing this movie for the first time and hearing the woman behind me ask her husband, "how did Lupin know how to read the map?" That's when I realized how much of the story non-book readers miss out on. 😢 Still love the movies of course though!!

      The 4 of them were all best friends in school, and Sirius became Harry's godfather when he was born. Shortly after, when Harry's parents went into hiding from Voldemort, they did a protection spell and made Peter their "secret keeper." Peter gave them up to Voldemort, then faked his own death and blamed everything on Sirius. Everyone assumed Sirius would have been their secret keeper, so they all believed that he had been the one secretly working for Voldemort. For 12 years, Remus thought that Sirius had betrayed them all and that his other 2 best friends were dead. When Harry told him that Peter showed up on the map, that was the first time he realized what had really happened.

      - Remus Lupin’s name is a big hint towards his condition as a werewolf the name Remus comes from the story of Romulus and Remus who are believed to be the founders of Rome who were orphaned and adopted by a she wolf from who they were fed by (breast fed) and Lupin is derived from the Latin name for a wolf which is Canas lupus
      - Sirius Black (Padfoot) is an Animagus who can transform into a large black dog (not a wolf) the name Sirius comes from the name of the Dog Star constellation so his name means black dog
      - Petter Pettigrew (Wormtail) is an Animagus who can transform into a rat which demonstrates the smallness of his inner character and demonstrates his timid fleeting nature as well as the fact that he ratted out Harry’s parents to Voldemort and his name is Pettigrew and he was Ron’s (formerly his brother Percy’s) so in terms of his name it could be because he was a ‘Pet’-who-‘Grew’ into a man

    The Potters was under The Fidelius Charm which is used to conceal a secret or someone. They're first chose was to have Sirius to be the Secret Keeper but he was afraid that it would be to obviously to put him as the Secret Keeper so they decided to switch it to Peter. Lily, James, Sirius and Remus didn't know that Peter was a Death Eater a follower to Voldemort so once The Potters made Peter the Secret Keeper he ran off to Voldemort and told him where they were hiding.

      I know this is a year old comment but I wanted to add onto this because it's one of my favorite twists in the book... The reason Sirius ended up framed for Peter's murder is because Sirius found out that Peter snitched the location of the Potter's and Sirius immediately went after him. At the time Peter was hiding out in the muggle world in his rat form trying to lay low. Sirius obviously confronted Peter and in an attempt to kill Sirius and get away, Peter used an explosive charm and killed 12 muggles, then cut off his own finger, turned into his rat form and ran off. As a result it led to the false conviction and imprisonment of Sirius Black for Peter's crimes (having been found with 12 dead muggles and Peter's finger). Peter then stayed in his rat form for 12 years living with the Weasley's (I can't remember if it's ever explained how he ended up with them). Sirius was in Askaban for 12 years as well, until he saw in an issue of the Daily Prophet (the wizard newspaper) a photo of Peter. In the issue of the Daily Prophet was a photo of the Weasley family on vacation in Egypt, with Ron holding Scabbers (Peter Pettigrew) front and center. Sirius decided that night to escape Askaban by turning into his dog form and slipping through the bars. He was able to get past the dementors because they couldn't sense him while he was a dog.

      @@barcaj.8650 I don't hate Lupin though I do hate the rest. And I do feel that Lupin was cowardly for not confronting his friends on their horrible behaviors. He was irresponsible with his lycanthropy, and I also think the way he handled the boggart lesson with putting Snape in woman's clothes to mock him, a fellow teacher, was very immature and inappropriate.
      Sirius isn't all innocent. He deserved to go to Azkaban in my opinion for attempted murder with Snape by trying to use Lupin to maul him when they were 15/16. It was attempted murder and a complete betrayal of Lupin's trust. (He was also the first to accuse Lupin of being the ones to betray the Potter's when it was Peter who betrayed them. He's a shit friend which is why I think the ship Wolfstar is toxic) On top of that, illegal animagi strolling along with a werewolf at night with no true protection? They may have helped Lupin by making sure he wasn't alone but even Lupin said there were many close calls, admitting that they literally put the school and the nearby village at extreme risk of being slaughtered whenever they went out on a full moon.
      On top of that James and Sirius were horrible bullies. Not just to Snape but to everyone else. Lily herself said that James literally hexed everyone just because he could. (One such incident both he and Sirius used an illegal hex to blow up a kids head to huge proportions.) He even threatened to hex her if she wouldn't go on a date with him. James was a disgusting ass. And Snape's worst memory was sexual assault. In the books, especially in Snape's younger years, they didn't wear uniforms underneath their school robes like in the movies. They wore underwear. So when James strung him up in the air and threatened to pants him, he was threatening to expose his genitals. And just before that he had made him severely choke on soap bubbles. Even worse, this was AFTER Sirius attempted to use Lupin to maul him. So James never changed. If a 16 year old boy strung a girl up and threatened to expose her genitals after exposing her underwear, people would realize it was sexual assault. But since it's a boy, and Snape at that, James stans seem to ignore it.

Someone else in the movie also stated that the dementors would target those who were interfering, making me think that they had some ability to differentiate between friend or foe. The only thing I can add really is that Peter WAS talking about Voldemort when he said 'The Dark Lord' , his followers call him the dark lord, only people who fear Voldemort call him 'he who must not be named' or 'you know who' . Its not explained in the movies but that stems from there being a curse on the use of his name when he first gained power, kind of a locator spell if you will, if you spoke his name they would be able to find you. This becomes an unexplained relevant piece of information towards the final movies. Not majorly important but cool to know :)

    So, James and Lily made the fidelius spell, which is a spell that can hide you in any place as long as the keeper of the information of where that place is mantains it a secret. Harry's parents just hid in their house and were gonna choose Sirius to keep the information, but they ended up choosing Peter and he spoke up. Sirius got so mad that he chased Peter down a street until Peter made an explotion killing 13 people around, he cut his finger and sneeked as a rat. The ministry has a record of wizards that are animagus, like Proffesor Mcgonagal for example, but since they became animagus in secret they didn't know about Peter beeing a rat, so Sirius was sent to Askaban without a trial and blamed for those 13 dead people.

    I just want to note, in case no one else has, that all of Lupin's mentions of Lily are a "movie-ism". Lupin never once discusses Lily with Harry in the book; when they do talk about Harry's parents, it's about James only, since Lupin was very close with James. It's a weird change honestly. Obviously Lupin knew Lily at school and afterwards, but these movie scenes make it sound like he had a close relationship with her beyond her being his best friend's wife, which just isn't the case.

By doing this they effectively screw up the time-line because the future self and anything that happened to the past self after the meeting is essentially wiped out, so screwing up the time-lines. This is why when the 'past' Hermione turned around the 'present' Hermione was quick to duck behind the tree. @cambriatevis6907 3 роки тому +5

      Also they are given the duty by the Ministry of magic to guard the prison. In a sense, the ministry has a contract with the dementors. Like here are some bad people that you can feed off of their depressing emotions and in return to you do not attack others and we will not destroy your kind.
      While this control works in a sense, the dementors are just doing what they do. It is a dangerous arrangement to have them at Hogwarts away from Azkaban which is by itself in the middle of an ocean.
      Also, the dementors represent depression in general. The more a person is affected by past trauma the easier it is for them to fall further and further into the depths of despair that is depression.

It's a very serious thing, Hermione handed it back when she dropped Divination and had a normal timetable. Education is taken very seriously in the books, I don't know why the movies don't portray this.

    The dementors targeted harry because they look to suck happiness out of people. Harry is someone who has experienced things his classmates could never imagine, so they see him as a target. Also, the reason Harry heard screaming is because he's hearing his Mother die whenever the dementors come too close. In the books there is a description from when he falls from his broom where he hears his Mother pleading with Voldemort not to kill her.
    Also, Sirius would not have been dead at the lake if the dementors had sucked the blue soul thing from him. He would live a life far worse, hollow, nothing more than a husk of a being. It's called a dementors kiss.

    The paintings aren't exactly alive, but they can hold on to the personality and memories of a person after they are dead, a little like a ghost. I'm not sure if this is explicitly stated anywhere, but it seems like the better (bigger, higher quality) the painting is, the richer the person's personality is captured.
    As for the dementors, I don't think they were particularly targeting Harry, it's just that he's more affected by them than other people, like Lupin said, because he has more horrors in his past than most people.

    Love how intensely they're watching (literally staring at the screen) and their theories and chatting afterwards, which is lacking in a lot of first reactions. Will definitely keep watching

    This was brilliant to watch! Loved seeing you working things out (well, trying to at least!). This is probably the best film, I'd say, along with Hallows 1. Top stuff.

    The dementors didn't go directly for harry, they just effect him more because he has more depressing memories than the other kids.

    I believe Hagrid is a half giant, he has a wizard father and a giant mother making him a half giant. It is more clear that Hagrid might be part giant in the Order of the Phoenix with his half brother who seems to have a lot more giant.

    It’s funny, the “why didn’t he just stay at Hogwarts over the summer?” question is one I see a lot. Essentially, when Harry was a baby Dumbledore places a charm on the Dursley’s house to protect him since it was the last place with someone physically related to Harry. Harry has to call the Dursley’s house “home” for at least a few months of the year to keep the spell going until he comes of age. If he didn’t have this necessary protection he probably could have stayed at Hogwarts, since they allow for exceptional circumstances. He would have definitely had a better home life.

    i spent the whole video in awe of how fast you two got the plot of the movie, you were very clever indeed, i mean, it doesn't seem very hard to me right now because i literally watch this movie like twice a month, but the first time I saw i was completely lost, and the fact that you guys were like figuring it out remus' secret and all, SOOOO SMART

    The rat was a three movies (books) twist. 😂 This movie is the one that my non-book reader parents having the most fun predicting the plots and reveals. I think it’s the one with the most clues.
