The Námafjall Geothermal area in Myvatn region has strong sulphur smell (smell of egg). It is not coming from the volcano. It is coming from the big Geothermal area in Myvatn. The Fagradalsfjall volcano in the Reykjanes Peninsula smelled bad at the time of my visit because it was active. I am not sure if it is still active or not.
I don't think they bite. I recommend you bring a protective head net if you visit Myvatn area in the summer. I heard this is an issue only in the summer. If I had found a youtube video similar to my videos when I was preparing for my trip, I would have been more prepared for the flies issue. May I ask how you found my videos? My videos don't appear on youtube search at all for some reason. UA-cam only recommends other channel videos that have drone footage and background music. I guess youtube algorithm prefers music!
I am seriously not a fan of flies so this one I shall avoid along with Hevrir due to the smell. I can see my share of geothermal activity in Yellowstone.
@@WandererBell Is the hotel you stayed in near the flies area? I booked at icelandair but on reading reviews I read in July its hot so window needs to be opened and flies swarm in. Net I saw in REI as well so will get one but I do not want them in the room
Great food tips.
Glad you found them helpful!
@@WandererBell Did you use Waze? Your taxi driver liked it more than Google maps.
@@kelvinyschun I used google maps. I totally forgot about waze! You can try it and let us know how it goes.
@@WandererBell I never tried it
Very formand vulcsno
Kind of tough upward hike
Are you sure that the flies are not mosquitoes
Yes, they are flies and that region in the north is full of flies in the summer.
I guess it means my water lake
I saw the flies and mosquitoes in front of your camera
Would you say the air is fresh? Some people say it smells a bit when u visit a volcano like this one..

@@WandererBell I searched anything on Iceland and your video popped up.
I depart tomorrow and took covid test today.
I hope results arrives when I reach NJ.
Walgreens takes 2-3 days.
@@WandererBell Canada had similar bugs and Off spray attracted the flies.
Enjoy your trip!
That's strange there's a fee to use the bathroom. It should be free. Don't understand why you have to pay
It is more common in Europe.

They sell a head net in Myvatn area. I saw a lot of people wearing it to block the flies. As far as the smell goes, a KN95 mask might help.
