Nice to see some soft jaw use on a manual lathe, seems to be quite rare from the UA-cam video makers, I find good utility in soft jaws on a manual lathe myself.
You reminded me of an old steam locomotive engineer running back and forth tweaking the levers and knobs on the mill, all you would have needed were striped coveralls 😂
Love you Max. Hope you get permission from Big Brother to keep posting Videos. No "tractor parts" (wink wink), unless you snap and produce thousands of hi quality tractor parts when Aussies have had enough and need them.
Hi Max, never knew Joplin Vises were made in Australia, I bought one from Bairds, now Myers in Freo back in the late sixties. They started making vises in the thirties in Sydney and taken over by dawn and sidchrome, quite a history. Mine was steel fabricated. I upgraded to a Dawn fabricated offset vise which I bought from Macpherson in Victoria Park.
Great work. People don’t realise how remote Western Australia is. It is As far from Sydney as the east and west coast of America is… well worth the visit though…
Hi Max , I started out in vokie making tools to use , no money !! I made a rebutting tool out of a half moon file. Grind the tip on the flat a quarter inch smooth to no teeth then grind the tip flat on a slight angle 10- 20 degrees then grind a U nd grind the round up a hook like on rebutting tools . File outside of part use hook to tenure inside . Its Jon my lathe after fifty years of use when making parts quick makes money hours rebutting dont pay.
I mounted my DRO on the headstock end, to the rear of the saddle. I made a heavy steel attachment that mounts with the 1/2” screw on that side of the taper attachment. I also mounted the traveling guard on that. It’s a 3/4” 1144 rod about 22” high. I like having the readout about where the tool is working so that I only have to lift my eyes a bit when looking at it, rather than turning my head away from the cut, to the headstock.
@ 6:33 Ex Qld Rail mate, John Coghlan (RIP) had a length of 3x2 laying on the floor under his work bench. First time I had ever seen one. ''What ever you drop", said John, "It will roll under the work bench" Problem solved.
@@swanvalleymachineshop It does. Got two or three benches and machines covered. First time you hear that "clunk" you will be over the moon. Again, mates who have gone, have made this world what it is. Cheers.
Thank you for your time again like always. Being new to fitting and turning and have burned some hours behind a lathe on my steam engine project. I have a real appreciation for what you do as for me its no easy and being 5 hours in on a part and you move a dial the wrong way. Its a great way to come close to scraping a part. I have to say i love the game of hitting dimensions on my train wheels. Great work like always.

The most isolated city in the world i think ! Cheers 👍
Haven't seen a glass jar for motor oil except in antique displays. Jars with a pour spout. Goes with your Triumph hat !!
That one is plastic ! A promotional thing from Castrol , had a lid & straw ! Cheers 👍

Seeing you in your coat took a few degrees off the thermometer in my shop this afternoon. Texas heat is unrelenting(as per usual)😂 Thanks Max.

That would work ! Cheers 👍

G'day everyone watching, from Lincolnshire UK 🇬🇧
Cheers 👍
Great video. I look forward to them all week.
Thanks 👍
Hi Max I like your stuff Is there a reason you couldnt do one longer nut and part them off halving your setups?
I did think about that way but it does not really save time . The soft jaws make up for set up time . 👍

I guess the local hardware store is out of 2 1/4 BSW nuts? 😂
All sold out . People must have been stocking up , like dunny rolls during the first covid outbreak ! 👍
I’ve never seen a male chicken try to fit into a shirtsleeve.
Lol 👍👍👍
Mate that Castrol jar is too good a item to risk it in the shop a beans tin works just as well lol
No worries , it is a plastic promotional thing from Castrol ! Cheers 👍
Another action packed episode from the Swan Valley - Thanks Max - Cheers
No worries 👍
Are you sure that is 2.1/4 BSW. 2.1/4 BSW is 0.250 inch pitch
Yes , i am sure ! BSW / BSF form , custom 10 tpi . 👍
@@swanvalleymachineshop
So it’s 2.1/4 x 10 BSW Which is a lot finer thread
I'll be back
Cheers 👍
Curious why you used soft jaws? Cheers
It is quicker & easier when the parts have to be flipped a couple of times . 👍
👍
Cheers 👍👍👍
Thanks Maxie!
Cheers 👍
