Another challenge I had with my van: needed an AC for these HOT summers! Be sure to let me know what kind of videos you would like to see on my channel. DON'T FORGET TO HIT THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON!
You probably already know this but there are smaller mini splits for vans, I have a chevy express 3500 that I'm adding one to from Amazon, I have a 3000 watt multi plus from victron with 6 and 4, solar/battery bank, and hopefully it's just as efficient as the bigger ones, but anyway good job.
Wonderful video! You got yourself a new subscriber because of it, too! 🙂
I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was wondering how exactly you are running power from your battery bank to the outside compressor unit. I'm guessing something like a 12/3 heavy-duty extension cord plugged into your inverter with the other end of the cord cut open-ended with the 3 wires hard-wired into the compressor's wiring block. Do you have any breaker or a disconnect in the path, or just straight cord from the inverter to the outside unit? My feeling is that since this AC isn't installed on a house, there is no real need for a breaker or a disconnect (pulling the plug is the disconnect!). Any insight would be really appreciated!
These minisplits call for a breaker but most DIY van instal vids either don't use them at all or dont show if they did or not. Be nice to see how its getting juice.
love this video. Thank you. I've been looking at options for moving my plate. I can't wait to get mine installed.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I found some generic license plate holders on Amazon. I'm going to buy one to try it out.
Amazing setup 💪🏽💪🏽🔥🔥new sub
Thanks for the sub. Just trying my best to get this set up going lol
I work out of a mini van so the minisplit would not work for me. I just bought 2 100 watt flex panels for the roof of my van off Amazon with coupon they were little over $100.I did see another mini split that you can wire directly into the panels. FYI I am in NC so just as humid and hot here in the summer. I have a 12v compressor fridge I use in the van. Upgrading to a full size van soon. I run a lawncare business so the van is more secure than a pick up.
Nice, yeah I saw the ac systems that run off solar. They're a little bit pricier for what I would need to cool my van.
Can't wait for you to upgrade. I would love to see how that turns out for you
9000 btu is plenty if you have at least R-5 insulation in ceiling and walls. Chevy Express. I installed the heat pump outdoor cabinet with fan and coil in place of spare tire blowing down. Extend 1/4” liquid line and 1/2” hot gas line, I have 1600W on the roof, 400aH LFP 24V. 4000W Magnum Inv. With no solar on our sunny 95F days, I can work eight hours with temp set at 74F, also powering a Iceco Chest Ref/Freezer and come home with 5-10% remaining. With solar after working all day…90-100% SOC.
Niiiiiccccceeeeee. That 24v system is definitely more efficient than my 12. If I were to build a camper I would do the 24v system as well.

I appreciate the sub 🙏🏿
Really nice! Do a vid on the solar when you get to it 👍
I definitely will. Ordering the pieces now
Great job!!
Thank you
Your Cool as Hell , in both ways.............
Lol thanks
hows it been holding up with the slight bit of wobble up top on the outdoor unit? i travel in my van full time, often on dirt roads, thats legit the only thing from buying this right now. thanks!
It's been holding up pretty well. I'll make an update video.
The wobble hasn't been bad. I take my time when driving over speed bumps. It's been real good though.
@@TechCommanderRepairs awesome!
How much did the ac tech charge u to vacuum the unit?
I received quotes of $50, 75, and 100.
This tech charged me $75. I had the other 2 quotes first but he was a referral from one of my customers I did a repair for.
Wouldn’t a rooftop unit be easier and take up less space?
This is the unit I'm putting in my van. My roof is all solar panels. There's no room for a unit.
I didn't want to cut a big hole in my room. Easier to replace a door than the roof.
I also want to fill up my room with solar panels. Trying to fit 800 - 1000 watts of solar.
