Hearing a curse word in a pony video, at least the first time, is kinda weird, and it caught me off-guard here... although it's certainly par for the course for my own D&D groups.
Although since it's the only one in the entire vid it's still weird to me.
Twilight is a bad GM.
Rainbow is a bad player.

"Twilight is a bad GM." she sure is. I mean, only one way of opening a door with a riddle? A good GM would have two more alternate ways to pass that door. Otherwise the party would get stuck just like it happened here.
@@LuckyBird551 Twilight's game is based on Dungeons and Dragons, DnD is based on the Lord of the Rings, in LotR they WERE stuck in front of a door with a "riddle" and no alternative. Twilight is the original GM.
A good GM can think on the fly and rewrite a campaign based on her idiot players' impulsive decisions. That said, it depends what Dashie and Pinkie's characters are supposed to be as to whether or not they're "bad," and I don't just mean their class.

As a player of DnD, I can confirm that this happens fairly often with new players and new GMs.
Protip for any GMs: Always assume your party is going to try and brute force the puzzle and have an appropriate punishment set up/a secondary way for them to do things that's FAR HARDER than just braining it.

The obvious solution is to use Pinkie's vodka on the old man then have her seduce the answer out of him while he's drunk (assuming she has the highest Charisma, and possibly a decent persuasion skill too). That's DnD logic 101.

I doubt Ponka would sacrifice her handle for that. I mean, you can't forget about her wenches! Vodka is essential for _proper_ fertilizing of all wench plots.
I'm pretty sure Rainbow Dash probably gave her character a ton of chraisma too.
Then again Pinkie probably WOULD put most of her stat allocation into charisma, with maybe most of the rest going into dexterity and speed with Rainbow Dash likely favoring charisma, speed and attack over most other stats.

Everything about the animation is amazing. From the script, the amazingly cute animation; the delivery of the lines from Losty, Anna, and Jxnny. It's all amazing, and I can't wait to see what's next!!

Wow. Twilight would not know how to be a good DM if her life depended on it.
Seriously, any DM worth their salt, knowing that Rainbow was frustrated and spoiling for a fight would have placed something a little more combat heavy in the second room on the fly, or otherwise come up with something to engage her. Also, No good DM designs an area to be completely closed off just because the party broke the intended way in. If you kill the Gatekeeper, you can still kick the door open, or loot his body to find the key.
The Job of the DM is not to control the story to their own ends, but to try to make the journey fun for every player playing.
That said, the animation here was great, the characters were pretty spot on, and the voice acting was quite well done. A nicely done animated skit overall.
Also, unless that second door had some incantation on it or something, Fluttershy should be able to open it with a Knock spell. Right?

Murder Hobos are shitty players to have fun with in most campaigns.
They bring huge amounts of chaos and bad karma to the party. Makes things interesting, if not failing quests outright.

yea, I got the same answer too. I thought earth was the mistress, the chains we're gravity, and the face was the moon. some space was literally space. really good riddle. :)
My first thought was a wheel being pulled by a horse, but I was pretty sure that wast it since invisible chains.

Invisible chains = gravity; the moon always has the same side, or face, turned to the Earth; "leaves me some space."
The answer to the riddle is either the Moon...or Spike. I vote Spike. Because it's kinda true.

There's three key clues that point to the actual answer to the riddle being the moon:
1) The first and, in my opinion, most obvious, is the emphasis on "space," which could hint to celestial bodies when interpreted.
2) The term "mistress," may be the most confounding part to the riddle, as it would imply a female. However, it's worth keeping in mind that the Earth is often referred to with the term "mother," creating a possible tie.
3) The symbology used by the terms "slave," "invisible chains," "prisoner," and other such references of the concept of captivity can easily be paralleled to the Moon's orbit which, save something cataclysmic enough to break the "chain", will remain in orbit around the Earth for eons to come, never coming "free" of our planet's gravitational pull.
If that's not enough to convince you, here's the most likely origin of the riddle I can find:

Hey, if a player does an obviously stupid thing then they should expect it to bite them in the ass. Not that ending the game in total is the right thing(that isn't fair to the other players), but if you do something as idiotic as kill an npc that's clearly going to be useful then you should expect to get some sort of back-lash.

Yeah Twilight stay tripping. Just because she's the dungeoun master doesn't mean everything has to go one specific way, or that she controls the fate of the characters. If everything was already 100% planned out, it wouldn't be a roleplaying game, it would be a short story, or, a blind reenactment of one?
I think this is even a bit out of character for Twilight, since knowing her, she would have done her research properly, reading plenty of tips on how to be a good GM before attempting to run a game.
But apparently, here she's failed at the most basic of tasks - making sure all players at the table have similar expectations as to the game's style (Dash clearly expected combat, and got two riddles in a row). ... well, I guess animating "session zero" isn't as fun xD

well done. but seriously what Twi say at 4:15 is bad DM'ing. DM's should facilitate the play and provide a world. What she said denies the player's agency and leads to resentment and boring sessions.

She let them do whatever, and they have to live with it.
It's not an often talked about aspect of DnD, but the characters should grow and develop as people throughout the journey. How are they supposed to do that if they can get by in life stabbing random people for no reason, and expecting things to go their way?
If they make horrible choices they should live with them. A good DM would allow them to re-try that event in sake of the story, but from how Rainbow was acting, I wouldn't let her either. or maybe twilight would have, but Rainbow never asked.
It's rainbow that's the problem, not Twilight.
She's railroading super hard. Yes, you want to punish your players for being pains, but you also need to be adapting your game to them. Flowery language doesn't do much when the majority of your group are murder hobos.
I have to disagree, when your DM just says, "No we're done you fucked it up." Is proof they aren't giving the players agency. After dash killed that guy it should have been about finding the key on him or figuring out how to open the door by manipulating something in the room. I can't even imagine having to "replay" an encounter. That sounds ridiculous. Also one of the best campaigns I ever played was a "stabbing random people for no reason" campaign. we refused all dungeons, murdered all the double speaking nobles, overthrew a country, and started a cult of personality. It. was. Amazing.

I love the level of animation you've reached. Unfortunately, I really hate how Twilight is portrayed here. "If you don't like it, you can just leave" is very anti-friendship. Also, horrible DM. No backup option for what she should already understand is RD's typically reckless behavior. Pinkie is maybe a bit OOC, but not horribly so, still enjoyable. Fluttershy is spot on, as is RD. Seriously, the only thing that ruins this, as easily happens all the time, is a bad DM.
That said, I generally think this has some potential as a series. At least, I would if not for animations generally being VERY time-consuming to produce. I still enjoyed this, and hope more are planned.
EDIT: I want to add, the impressions are very well done. It easily had me suspend my disbelief.
