- Bill "Tiger" Lyons flew 63 missions in WWII with the 357th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force. He escorted bombers into France and Germany, engaging in dog fights against the German Luftwaffe. He is credited with 3 aerial victories and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 8 Oak Clusters, 2 Presidential Unit Citations and 5 Battle Stars - European Theater Ribbon. At 100 years-young, Bill remains a consummate expert in flying the P-51 Mustang, which he explains in this presentation.

Well just because you flew a P-51 doesn't make him an expert on aerodynamics. Specifically it's not the turbulence on top of the wing That creates lift, it's the camber on the bottom of the wing that creates lift as the angle attack increases.
NASA has well documented this phenomenon but even the experts like this pilot get it wrong, lol
It was a different time and NASA wasn't a thing then. 🤣🤣🤣🤣The important thing is that he could fly it and he can explain with being 100! Amazing guy.
