There's something a bit sad seeing these ships make their last voyage.
Look at it this way: every ship that is drydocking for dismantling is a ship that served it's crew and passengers well, without ever sinking. It's a sign of success, not defeat. I think there would be a lot of happy people if the Titanic would've made it that far.
@@ThereIsNoSp00n A fair point.
@@ThereIsNoSp00n Great thinking 👍👌👏👏The last hoot is s sound of success. 👍

The thing about running a big ship onto the beach for scrapping is there is no second chance, they are coming in under full power and with no ballast so they don't steer normally and they are slotting them into a very narrow gap. Nice jobs all 5 of them.
It is very difficult to go wrong on the approach
You'd think they'd construct docks for them to safely arrive at
So the ship effectively turns into a cruise missile
Or a torpedo
The final horn the ships blow is kinna sad. Their journey has come to an end.
Some would just reply... "it is an inanimate object!" But I've always imagined these kinds of things as having an life energy of their own! Hate to see a machine abused! I understand that these will be dismantled and be part of something new, so I'm sort of ok with it, but I'm a sucker for restoration! :)

it's really amazing humans can build something so large.
And make it float
It would be more accurate to say that ocean-going ships are built by giant machines that are controlled by computers: The computers and the machines were designed and programmed by humans, but even the smallest parts of the structure of a huge ship are far too large and heavy to be fabricated by actual humans with hand tools: the cutting and welding of the steel plates and the fabrication of the enormous diesel engines are all done by machines. What actually limits the size of modern cargo ships is that they need to be able to fit through the Panama and Suez Canals, and they have to be able to be loaded and unloaded by existing cargo cranes in existing port facilities. If a ship was so enormous that it needed water at least 200 feet deep to float, you wouldn't be able to even get it close enough to shore to tie it up to a pier to unload it. There have been crude oil Super tankers that were rated at 500,000 deadweight tons, and that drew 100 feet of water at full load, like the MV Knock Nevis, but these ships had to be loaded and unloaded at specially built piers in deep water, with the oil transported to the pier from the shore in pipelines.
Gotta respect any captain who runs it out hard to first.

Since this is the last time the last trip the ships ever make - why don't they bring them in at a much higher speed - just to give them that last thrill.
They're likely hitting the shore at full speed as it is. These aren't modern ships, so they're probably not capable of higher speeds. In addition, they're dragging on the bottom as they approach the shore, long before the bow hits.
