DuB-EnG: EASILY Make STRONG Apple CIDER in UK - Home Brew 10% ABV in 8 Days with store bought juice!

  • Опубліковано 25 сер 2024
  • Easy and non-scientific - I made rough / hard apple cider from UK tescos store bought apple juice concentrate (aldi or lidl would work too and maybe cheaper). I added 250grams of sugar and 4 teaspoons of Turbo Yeast - This is ROCKET FUEL - Two pints and I'm a happy drunk! I do the breathalyser test and hit way above the limits! Want a quick cider, but don't want to pulp, press and juice some apples? This is a fantastic method! Dubious Brewing 😀

    Brings me back to my youth, when a friends father cooked up his own beer in the cellar, and we would sneak down and tap off a few pints to enjoy.
    If we didn't cover it up by diluting the rest with water, the crime would've never been discovered... Great vid Howard :)

    Sometime between 1970 and 1974, I and the wife were stationed at RAF Bentwaters. Wife and I rented a bungalow on a farm in Carlton nr Saxmundham. (still remember our telephone number, Saxmundham 2708, Hah!) One evening we invited another USAF military family over for a few drinks and a card game or two. Somehow we discovered a store which sold scrumpi by the imperial gallon for only 50p and we could return for refills of the same jug. Ohhhh, that was good stuff. I think we went through 3 jugs. Mind you, it only gave us a slight buzz, but it was a good buzz. Never forgot it. I just recently remembered what the stuff was called and here I am. Hmmmm.... I just might have to brew some up! Cheeers!

    Dude, I occasionally do this over the years but now I had to get another brew on the go, cider and beer prices are getting worse now and you cant beat 4lt of apple juice for 75p each (growers harvest) from tesco..... very cheap easy drink to make and will supplement my Ale drinking as that is getting rather pricey now. Great way to save a bit of dosh and get a good buzz going on a Saturday night. I feel like I want to try some mead next though (never done that before). Thanks for the video and for showing how effective it is by the end 🤣🤣

You say in the notes and video to add 2 Tablespoons or 4 teaspoons of Acotec yeast to the demijohn but at 1:52 you appear to add 4 Tablespoons of yeast - is that how you managed to achieve the 8-10% ABV? - I'll do 2 batches and let you know....hic🤪

    I used to brew wine, about 15-17% stuff. We have these ready made packs, dried fruits, yeast, and the acid etc to really clear the stuff. Just add sugar. Pretty good, actually, very sneaky. Usually didn't recall when I went to bed. :D Still have my 30 liter barrel and all sorts of corks and whatnots. I shall give this one a go... Perhaps with the Lidl stuff. Pear cider could be nice, too... Hmmm. Why not both? :)

    Why don't they just invent a tool that you can dip in your brew and it can measure the alcohol content? Strange.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, especially as they can detect minute amounts on your breath!!!

      @@DubiousEngineering I am using Wilko Germain Universal wine yeast. 8 demijohns on the go (staggered the start dates) using a couple of different types of concentrated apple juice from tesco. Also did one with pears I had growing and some apples I juiced.

      Haha! You have inspired me, I wonder how it would be if you really splashed out on some Cawston press juice,
      How different is the process if I was to actually squash some apples?

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 роки тому +1

      Not a lot different... you need to press the apples, filter them, and you’re away ... it’s a messy job and some special equipment is required.
