  • This is a handmade metalworking craft metalcraft sculpture made with hammer and anvil. Some blacksmithing techniques and suitable for museum quality display, costume or cosplay and other artistic forms. High end art and artwork. No TIG welding or MIG welding was used.
In this video I made the greatest thing I have ever made; a Memento Mori mask based on the ancient philosophy of Stoicism. This is made of bronze, copper, and aluminum. It's a wearable mask, but it's really meant to remain on display rather than to be worn. Could be a pretty rad Halloween mask though. This was made for Tim Pool of Timcast.

Hey. I have been watching some of your videos. I find your content very educational, and even noticed you made an oni mask! I was actually researching how they were made before I found your video, and they were made originally by swordsmiths out of iron and leather. Since you already did a design for oni, can you do a tengu mask out of iron? The tengu represent the spirits of fallen warriors, where as oni and hannya are demonic entities representing plagues, and poor characteristics in people. I think it would be amazing to get a clue not only on how to do it, but also how they may have done it then. That, and I think you might like the challenge of working with iron in a different and new shape. Again, thanks for the content we've watched yet, and I liked and subscribed. Keep kicking ass

@@MusicIsASoul I will certainly consider it. As you said that would be a real challenge. Unfortunately UA-cam has completely nuked my channel and I no longer get any views on my videos. I spent probably $500 in materials on this video, and I probably only made about $75 back in ad revenue. It's basically at the point where it's no longer viable to go to all this trouble anymore. I still do commissions, but making a video...I don't know that I will do any more after this one.

@@DavidGuyton I understand. Have you thought about maybe starting a trade school online and partnering with other educational entities to help support your classes? I know blacksmithing isn't the trade it once was, but it's also not taught much as a result. And Hollywood is always looking for people who can make things. Use your platform as a reference to market yourself and gain friends along the way who will help your brand and network with you. Demo ranch I'm sure if you reached out wouldn't mind doing some content with your metal works at some point. Mr. Beast likes larger than life things, so I'm sure at some point he wouldn't mind doing a collaboration at least once. I think the only thing you would need in this regard is the know how on how to contact people.

@@DavidGuyton tik tokers with all these views, I'm sure if you gave them something free they would give you brand recognition. But that's also a very expensive way of marketing. Very high risk.

@@MusicIsASoul I made a promise to all my fans that I would never, ever charge anyone to see my content. That's something that is just completely antithetical to my code. The "brands" that reach out to me are always junk unrelated to what I do; basically just spam sent to my email that is sent to 500 companies/UA-camrs every single day. I actually did already send some bulletproof armor to Demolition Ranch. It was a cool episode he did but it wasn't made for rifles and he barely used any handgun rounds on it before destroying it. I've tried to do a few other collaborations but it seems I am at the size where the really big UA-camrs don't care to team up and the small ones won't really help me to grow any.

"The entire shop looks like Tony Montoya's Christmas party." I know everyone (myself included) loves to nerd out about the metalworking, but your neutral tone is also pretty hypnotising so when you drop a humorous observation like that out of the blue it gets me good. This is the first video of yours I've watched and having looked through your video list I have to say it's a crime that you don't have ten times the Subscribers you do now.

A tip I learned in a video (from a professional armorer, who has made hundreds of sets of real armor for all sorts of movies) is for Aluminum, to soften it ‘just right’ for working, is to draw on it with a sharpie, then heat it until the sharpie vanishes. This anneals it *perfectly* for shaping. I’ve tried it myself, and it is no joke, it makes the metal move so nicely.

Acetylene soot works to if you have such burner burns off at the right temp just like the sharpe. If the aluminium gets yellowish you need to back off!

That's true for aluminum, yes. I have worked with aluminum enough that I can apply the right amount of heat without needing to use the marker anymore. If I am annealing large pieces, I still use the marker, but not on something this small.

Even counting the fact that you made a little bit of the right side in both rows too, counting from the middle in 4:49 in the upper row there's a taped R1 followed by L1,L2,L3 (fang), L4,L5,L6,L7,L8 (wisdom tooth, might aswell end at 7) and then there's 9. You could for example make 7 a little wider and with a slight line going through it, and same with 8 if you want to keep it, and drop the 9 completely to get a more anatomically correct look.
