i had a xu1 as a young fella my first car ,i built a fresh engine and drag raced every car that pulled up along side me ,only got beat by very powerful V8 muscle , it hauled ass engine was blue printed with massvie head rework and triple carbs ,40/80 solid cam run 13.8 1/4 mile at wilo bank with 3.55 lock diff and slicks back it 1987,
I had a lime green LC. I got Harry Firth to tune it & fitted a yella terra head on it. Went pretty good but the ride was a bit harsh for mum & the kids ......
Loved my red GTR XU-1 when I was young back in 89.Saddest day of my life when I had to sell it to get out of debt. Still dream about it. Would be very expensive to buy now :(
@@MrWeareone777 in 2010 i picked up a GTR 72 lj all matching number with log books just before price increase with some damage kid lost his licence didnt realy know what it was worth offered him 2k ,cut all rust out repaired damaged fender repainted 2k orange with black outs , 2 years later 90% finished sold it for 24k spent 6k all up made 18k
@@MrWeareone777 I know what you mean 😌 Had an LJ 1972 XU1 202 motor Factory triple su carbs burnt orange it was. Still miss it 😭 40 plus years later ...
Bought one of these new in 1971, LC 186, same colour "Linamint Green" for $3395.75, from Fair Deal car sales in Parramatta. Great car, sorry I sold it. Once chased a 327 Monaro up Mount Ousley, stayed with him, doing 90mph+ at the top. That was interesting but somewhat scarey.
Yeah lc two door s with 179 hp racked out to a 192 oversized flat tops wild cam that screemed all the way to 7000 insane high comp head l34 valves lots of port work getting her flowing ,three speed with 355 factory lsd banjo (very rare)diff ,a combo good for 120 mph+ very quickly
I have owned 3 LC XU 1's the last I sold 3 years ago. Still don't know why I sold my last one...a moment of weekness I suspect. What a beautiful car this one is, a credit to the owners
That’s the gearbox in it. It’s the straight cut gears or the “dog box” most probably a PPG gear box and can hear from the really quick shifts being made from the near flat shifts being made during between the gears. Such a beautiful sound 👌😉
Love these old cars. It scares the hell out of me racing them without a cage on these Tasmanian roads tho' ! Any major impact over 80kmh is fatal in an early 1970's car.
I remember the 4 cyl version...what a shit car...then they fitted the old red and didn't that wake it up. Workmate had a worked 202 solid cam Torana in Frankston and it was just insane...in a nice trippy sort of way.
Yep , if my grey cells are working correctly , in that version it had the 202 cubic inch (3.3L ) holden 6 complete with triple carbs(someone please correct me if i`m wrong ) , (the earlier model had a 186 CI) , and in the street version it was a pretty brutal package in that relatively light body with 70`s handling dynamics , but a lot of fun at the same time.

I put a 186 head on a 202 block and ooof. Yellla Terra heads, tramp rods... the old way was more fun.
I bought my 1st car at 17 , a LJ GTR 202 in 1982 it was an awesome car and i paid $1900 , sweet
Driven quickly but sensibly, particularly in The Wet. Sounds nice, looks good in that colour.
Awesome Video work.....Camera was always looking at car coming towards it......very professional.
Such great footage. What a beautiful LC!
identical to mine...simply the dumbest thing I did was sell it, I cry now when I see this
Same here, paid $2750 for it with 30,000 miles on the clock. Had it tuned by Harry Firth in Richmond. Weapon.
That looks and sounds like a well-sorted little car
Did a good job to keep it on track the back steps out in a blink of a eye them little torries

This car just recently sold and its not a genuine GTR XU-1. Its just a very well built and prepped LC torana.
What motor was in it 202?
Thanks mate cool
I miss my LC GTR XU1 torana, mine was red but, NICE CAR!

Maybe you needed the money at the time? Anyway, go outside and Kick Yourself again! It was a Dumb Thing to Do....
Its great to see holdens doing what they are built for on the streets (legally))
That suspension wyne

Stunning car. Sounds amazing. Don't build them like that anymore. Sigh.

Gear box louder than the engine 😂
Might be intake whistle from the triples ?
Probably a straight cut gear set for reliability.
this is the inline 6 yeah?

what a beautiful sexy car
Classes 1️⃣➕️🌄🇦🇺⭐️
WTF I looked up LJ not LC
1💣💯👍👁❗️
Can I hear a supercharger?
saggo1712 2 way diff probably
Probably straight cut gearbox.
Webers ?
rev the F##kin thing... that's not trying
The idea is to finish, not be left with a pile of parts on the side of the road.
sigh, not the normal engine, sounds supercharged! give me the real raw sound of those 202red anyday!
straight cut timing gear make that screaming sound , not supercharged
sounds like webbers
Lord Xantosh i Never heard a gilmered 202? Poor dude
nickdudem definitely straightcut gears for strength
Straight cut gearbox.
We had an LJ GTR, worst car ever in the wet.
